So what TV commercials make you want to rush out and slap the people behind them?? Of course, most all commercials are disposable, but which ones REALLY make you squirm?
One commerical I really hate is 1-800 PetMeds! Where they have some stupid woman trying to load her stupid dog into her stupid car to take it to the stupid vet. And then this other stupid woman just picks up her stupid phone and dials 1-800 stupid PetMeds and everything is all happy!
Or those Country Crock butter commercials!

His wife comes out of the house and stares at him. His response "It's okay, Honey! I had Subway today!"

I hated these old ads that they used to have for Rice. They tried to make out that rice was the greatest invention ever or some crap and you could do more than just boil it or fry it, or whatever. And they always showed just a plate of rice, and it turned into various things...
I hated the catchphrase, "Rice! More versatile than you thought!"
Fuck off is it! It's just fucking rice, you couldn't do anything with it. Its just for eating, you can't make little planes, or cars or people with it, thats stupid. Just eat it you stupid ad execs!

I hate all the ads for various alcohols that stress blokiness and leering at girlies [Cougar Bourbon, New and VB being the main culprits]. It's a pity Teenage boys and office workers trying to prove they're still masculine are such a large market. Just go buy Ralph or FHM or Fuckwit monthly and leave my airwaves alone!
If any of you watch TechTV you'll see these IT certification commercials that are the most god awful things I've ever seen!
Then there's the debt management commercials where they have a white man, a black man, a hispanic male, an old lady, an italian, basically every classification of person you can name all in a room talking about 'how to get out of debt'. Whenever the commercial comes on I just hit mute.
I also love the commercials for revolutionary products that replace old technology. Like the new 'no snag' garden hose that rolls up easily. Then they show the person 'struggling' with the old style hose. Tell you what folks, if you can't manage to roll up a fu**ing garden hose, I don't think the new kind is really going to be any better for you.
The problem comes from two things I think:
1) lack of imagination/originality
2) they hire friends (cheap) to do the acting rather than actors
Oh well ... at least you can get a laugh from them.
For much the same reason as Orange's dislike of alcohol commercals, I utterly despise those peddling deodorant. Particularily loathsome are the advertisements for Lynx; here's a couple of the ending punchline/tagline/whatever thingies (I'm tired, alright?) that will serve to illustrate, for those lucky enough not to have seen them, just how irritating these adverts are:
"Men's sweat only attracts other men. You don't want to attract other men, do you? That would make you gay. You don't want to be gay, do you?"
"The girls are ready, WHY AREN'T YOU!?"
Believe it or not, the actual adverts themselves are even more painful to watch than those lines are to read, and I just can't bear to relive the sheer horror they put me through so as to describe them here. Sorry!

In Brisbane, we have a guy called (I think) Craig Wicks who owns a series of rug stores called "Rugs-A-Million".
Nearly every time you see an ad, he's on there saying he's going out of business and all stock has to go.
His ads have been running for about five years or so, which means he's been going out of business since about 1998.
He also looks like Bruce Mcavaney, which is even scarier.

Oh, I thought of another one. There's a flea market- yes, a FLEA MARKET- that regularly has ads on my parents' radio station. In this terrifying Ugarte/Alvin and the Chipmunks voice, the flea market's mascot "Dr. Flea" talks to some lady named Sophia. He claims he has "UN-BEE-LEE-VABLE BARGAINS!" and that we should "COME, LIGHT UP my BRAIN!" What does that even mean? And he says it over and over again at least four times in a thirty second spot!
But that's not all.. noooo they made a SEQUEL to it!

It's bad enough that when I was first with my "significant other" and when we started watching TV together that one of those tampon commercials came up. "Great news, girls! Pads have just become less crinkly!" or "Girls, you won't believe it! Pads feel like diapers, and are less smelly!". Everything got awkard after that.
Now we're okay with watching those sorts of commercials, but still...

there is one commercial i found really disturbing. It showed a young girl driving a car, and the mother in the back seat who was not wearing a seatbelt. All of a sudden, the daughter braked really hard, or was in an accident (i can't remember). But the mother came flying forward and smashed her face on the windsheild. Then the camera showed the mothers bloody face. I only saw this commercial once, and was very disturbed by it.

I'm not disagreeing with you. MOST of TV is garbage, however, there is also a small variety of informative and entertaining shows still on the air. If you don't wanna watch something, you just switch it off. Its the people who DON'T switch it off and just sit there burning their mind out with useless trash that become couch potatoes and such. Actually, anything can breed couch potatoes. Reading, eating, internet, music.
We're given lots of things that we can entertain ourselves with, which is not a bad thing. But how people use them and how frequently is their own choice.
Man, I have learned half of the interesting/useless facts I know from TV, like the Simpsons and Seinfeld and Family Guy. Did you know that when a bobcat roars or growls, it is so rough and deep they are often mistaken for a mountain lion? I never knew that! I learn allot from mythbusters and such.
And I also hate the easy-diet fat pills that are clinically proven to help lose at least 20 lbs. or more. No offence to casual dieters, but you should only use these if you are at least 20 lbs. overweight. I think that all these commercials are taking over all the others, since America is getting fatter all the time.
SBC (Big phone company) is apparently trying to pass a bill through Oklahoman Congress to raise our phone bills.. I don't know much about it, all of my information comes from an annoying commercial that points it out every time. It tells us that they will raise our phone bills by $2 a month (THAT'S $24 A YEAR!!) all while showing evil looking corporate types with giant golden diamond-encrusted SBC badges on their chests. A cheesy marching soundbyte plays as they walk towards the Capitol building with scowls on their faces. Did I mention the diamond-encrusted gold badges? Yeah.

Those goddamn cheaply made ads about warehouse sales that are always narrated by a screaming maniac who never takes a breath. We get them every now and again in Brisbane advertising for a certain bunch of crap being sold cheaply at the convention centre (a very nice place really, not a warehouse at all). I just have to push mute when they come on, or change the channel until I'm -sure- it's over.
This is another one specific to Australia, but for months and months now, there's been an ad on tv advertising life insurance. It features this ugly house wife sitting down to a cup of coffee, talking about how her husband died and left them nothing. "Look, blah-de-blah was a good provider. He just didn't think about that sort of stuff."
THAT is the worst ad ever for me (that I can think of right now). I HATE it, HATE it, HATE it! I want to MURDER that woman and stuff her eyeballs in her coffee and tell her that she can't freaking act for shit and I bet her poor husband committed suicide after having to listen to her "Look,..."s and look at her freaking disgusting hair!
... Argh!
I also hate ads about raising awareness of STDs like the current "thrush" ads (I think it's thrush). They show all sorts of woman saying "I've had it", "I've had it too", "I got it ages ago", "I've got it right now!", "I'm getting it for my birthday!" (okay, the last couple are of my own creation). Then they reveal that lots of people have this particular STD. It's just stupid, and sick, and I hate the message. 'Lots of people have STDs so you shouldn't be ashamed about it. It's NORMAL!'
That's like saying getting secondary smoke induced lung cancer is okay. Sure, you don't have to feel like a freak because of it, but it's not something you say happily and proclaim loudly in a cafe! It's bad to have it! You're allowed to be sad about it and treat it silently, keeping some of your dignity. It should make you feel bad because you should be afraid of the consequences of unsafe sex!
Blah. SO many ads are awful. Lots are bad, but there are just those few that make you want to kill people.
Yeap, I know those warehouse ads very well -- I like how they say their sale ends on Sunday night, and then they extend it to Monday night (and then the extend it to Tuesday night, then to next week, etc, etc).

Yep, we get those same ones in Sydney, they have them in FOX studios, and as DG said they extend for about 3 weeks and get cheaper and cheaper. I've never been though. They have to be out cause the next thing starts there, but days later they're still open pleading you to come and take their usesless crap.
I guess they just move around the capital cities constantly with neverending stock.

Sure, it's an important topic, but they present it in such a blase manner, it's like "LET'S ALL HAVE SEX COZ IT'S GREAT! (we will insert a brief, five second reminder that you might wanna use a condom, too) I LOVE SEX, AND BOY, AM I RANDY TONIGHT, HONEY!"
And Australia as some crappy doctor doing an ad about how the Australian Health Scheme is improving (by that, he means getting screwed up by turning into the american system) and he can't talk properly! He has the most annoying lisp in the world, and he calls the "Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme" the "Faaarmeshootical Benfit Skeeem".

I always thought that doctor guy actually had some sort of medical problem. Not in a jeering sense - I really mean it. I don't know but it just seems like the way he moves... well, looks like some sort of involuntary movement problem. If not, then he's really strange.
I also hate any ad (and this seems to be a trend lately) that shows a bunch of stunt actors pretending to be rowdy youth doing something really, really stupid like surfing a wheelie bin down to the ocean or something. That shit doesn't look fun, it looks dangerous and ridiculous, and has absolutely ****-all to do with whatever sports drink of brand of clothing is being advertised.
Oh yeah, and that ad on late at night with the large breasted woman in the small yellow bikini type underwear on the bed, trying to entice you to call her. It's not an ad that annoys me so much but... how could ANYONE be fooled into thinking the narrator of the ad is her? People that work in the phone sex industry are more often than not fat, ugly chicks that can talk dirty. Not saying that's bad, it may be your thing, but my point is just that you'd have to be pretty thick to think that the voices belong to sexy, busty women lying on an elegant bed at night, waiting... waiting for the phone to ring.

There is this one commercial that used to play all the time around here. I havn't seen it lately, but I change the channel whenever I see it. It shows younge people swimming, running and rideing horses and then this one woman turns to the camera and says somthing like, "I'm not going to let genital herpes slow me down any more, because now I have _______". :-X
Oh, and I also am annoyed by all those fricken Viagra commercials and that new "Viagra for women". :P The LAST thing I want to think about when I sit down to watch TV is old people having sex.
Seems like it's pretty clear that in general, the most hated ads are those for STDs and other sex-related ads.
Just on the topic of an ad on Genital Herpes, It's funny how they act all happy like it's cool to have it, but then they talk about still having sex with condoms to prevent it from spreading.
Sure it's good to be safe, but I still wouldn't like to trust condoms, eventually if you have enough sex (and I'm talking about the same partner) it becomes more likely to spread (that goes for other std's especially ones that cant be treated)
On another note, I always thinks it's pretty silly about an anti smoking ad that shows a "Healthy Lung" being cut up showing how pink and clean it is, then pouring tar over it showing how much tar a smoker will fill their lungs with.
My point being what was this "Healthy Lung" doing outside of the body on a chopping board????? just shows that healthy people can die too, so you might as well smoke while you still can. (but it's best not to start)
Another thing that jumped into my head: I hate ads that promote the TV channel you're already watching!
There's this program on (Australian) TV called "sunrise" (like "Good Morning America/Australia/Iraq/Other_country") and they put out this ad saying:
"Well, since we've become the most popular morning program in Australia, why don't you watch the evening news on the same channel? The hosts are 'our kind of people', and they really know what they're talking about. So make the right choice - watch channel seven news. And we'll see YOU bright and early tomorrow morning *cheesy smile*"

It doesn't help that Sunrise is my most hated morning news program as it is. Bah, I hate shows promoting themselves in that way too. Bloody Rove just won't shut up about his freaking gold logie! Who even gives a turd about the logies?
And isn't it annoying the way local broadcasters think they're movie stars? Not all of them do but I've seen some that try to be all entertaining and stuff.
Man, I really hate channel 7. Ever since they had the Olympics in 2000 (and probably before that too) theyve constantly had annoying shows (oh lets think up another reality show to compete with the other channels........ yeah thats what we all want), and their ads are just so annoying... especially Today Tonight with Naomi someone, who is the most annoying presenter ever. That show is one of the worst on TV. Its always just copying A Current Affair, or vice versa.
And now the most annoying ads ever... the ones for Cheap Doors... If you live near Woolongong in Autralia then you will knw what I'm taling about...
Like who cares about doors. No one is gonig to say, 'Hey, I need a new door' after seeing the ads... and the ads are just so bad, I have to mute or change the channel everytime.

Any way , those Gatorade commericials tick me off and so do health and hygene commercials , like when you're trying to eat , some how all that seems to be on that moment are health and hygene related commercials...yuck ...then when you're not hungry they have food commercials and all of a sudden you're hungry again! lol
But I mostly hate Gatorade and badly made commercials.

Actually, thrush is not exlusively or even typically an STD. The spores that cause it are found everywhere, often it is present but not infecting because one's "friendly bacteria" keep it at bay. It is often triggered by a course of antibiotics as this kills of the firendly bacteria and the thrush gets a foothold. Many babies get it after antibiotics. Another reason to stop antibotics being over-used.
Anyway, Ocean Finace adverts are the most annoying. They have lots of actors pretending to be real people by having very badly wirtten lines to read out. Including one woman who says "They don't babble you with science or whatever".

Aww. I thought that was cute. Then again I often tend to fit into the stereotypical "girly girl" label and I'm attracted to cute and girly things along even though I also like horror.

" *laughs* That reminds me of this commercial that looks good right up until the guy says "This isn't rocket surgery!" ...I'm pretty sure the line was supposed to be "This isn't rocket science!" and some nutbar decided to release the commercial anyway even though it had a mistake or just was lazy and didn't make sure everybody got their lines right or something.
Oh , and I forgot to mention earlier but the "rich chocolate Ovaltine" commercial ticks me off too , not only does it not have truth in advertising ( Gatorade and Ovaltine have a foul taste ) , but it's really boring too.
Another "oh ..and" : I'm not too thrilled about tampon commercials either ( they count as hygene / health related right? ) I don't know if I mentioned that already but stuff like that ticks me off since it's sick ( if I wanted to watch a tampon commercial I'd a couple of friends to do one for me and tape it or something but then again whey would anyone actually want to watch such a thing? lol ) ...especially since they seem to be on whenever people are trying to eat.
I hate Gap and Old Navy too. The only time I was ever interested in an Old Navy brand name clothing was those cute t-shirts with the American flag on it , but then I thought "I don't want one if I can't the get the brandname off." *laughs*
Not about a commercial , but still sick and stupid , but a bit funny : It was a school day and these girls were talking about periods and I was like "I can't believe you're talking about that in public!" and this one girl says something like "It's a part of life, honey." Nowadays , when I look back...I wonder why she called me honey and that part makes me laugh but I still am amazed that somebody , especially a girl , would talk about something like that in public. I've joked about it once or twice but I usually don't talk about it.
I hate those IM and such commercials. They promote shit grammar.

Tampon commercials are just nasty and that's that. I'm a male and I despise seeing a bunch of women talk about their personal self and how their period works.
You can be either male or female and hate tampon ads. My sister hates them also.
And what I really hate is when they say things like, "If you stand up after sitting for awhile your flow can increase by 'whatever %".

Anyhoo.. I don't mind when girls talk about thier period.. just today, this girl was telling me about it all. I found it interesting.. You know you've reached a certain point in a friendship when a girl shares those kinds of details.

o_O This whole line is just odd. Are you implying that if an advert is for tampons, it's automatically a good ad and can do no wrong? People aren't necessarilly saying they hate tampons or periods or women, they're saying, "Those ads are stupid". I haven't really heard of tampon ads as bad as what people here have been mentioning, but they often are just stupid ads. The one that annoys me right now has two women getting pampered. One woman stands up as a guy puts a bathrobe over her and the image fades to that of a tampon getting a silk cover put over it. Then they show the tampon sliding down a... slide. The visualisations in that ad are just too much for me :P I hate it.
