Title: --> The Contribution Thread <--- (Templates, free GUI's, bg's, .chr's)
Post by: Andail on Wed 23/06/2004 16:10:34
Here's a thread where you can publish material you wish to share with the community.

Have you drawn a background, animated a character, designed a GUI or constructed a puzzle?
Do you want other people to be able to take part of your creations?
Reply here.

Just write a short description of what you are donating. Include a link, and a line that says who shall be credited and when it was created.

Ex.
Futuristic Background, 640x400, hi colour
http://www.thelinktothepicture.com
Made by Petter Ljungqvist 2004

Images shall be linked, not displayed.

Copyright disclaimer:
People donating material here may not add further restrictions, such as "oh, you can't use my background because I want it to only be featured in good games." or "You may only use my character if you have already released at least three games I can look at".
If you wish to remove your link, just say so. As long as it's here, anybody is free to use it.

Practically, you don't have traditional copyright, since you can't demand people that have used your character in a game to take it down.

Still, people are urged to include the originator in the credits. Failure to do this may result in  their name ending up on a black list.

Do you want to add fonts here, and plug ins? I know we dont have a very reliable site for downloads of everything, (no offense to anyone).

If so heres Synthetiques Fonts: http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=6202.0

And you may add the ones that are linked to in my signature.

This would probly go under the "Concept Pictures" section.  Basically, I'm in walk-cycle mode at the moment.
For the moment they can be found in this thread:
http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=15073.0

When I move on to html mode, I'll knock up a page for them.

Hi guys, Noob here.Ã,  This is an eight loop robot.Ã,  He is very realistic, and still in the form of 8 image sequences.Ã,  I made him from scratch using Blender.Ã,  I figure he is most useful in his raw form.Ã,  Do enjoy.

While at CGTalk, I noticed a picture ( plugged on the front page so you know it's good ) entitled 'arabian market' that had background written all over it, so I contacted the artist, and asked if he would be so generous as to allow his work to be utilized by AGSers,....He said no problem, and even sent me this link to some other works of his, that he thought might be of use.  >> http://www.3dlinks.com/GalleryDisplay.cfm?artistid=3255
There is one in particular that he thought would be useful, called 'nobody there' or something like that.  I checked it out.  It is uber coolio.
He did request that if his backgrounds made it into an AGS game, that he would like a copy.  He seemed like a nice guy, and very generous.  I wrote him a note thanking him.

Here are some Isometric Kitchen Objects (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/D_Iso_r_o.PNG) I created while the forums were down. If someone wants to use them, be my guest.

Here's what can be created with them:
Example BG (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/D_Iso_r.PNG)

Here are some isometric objects I've done... I think Iso is a great oportunity because of the high possibilities of "standarize" it all... It could work as Instagame ("AGS ISOgames Objects database?)

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/ItziIso.gif)

If you want to help me with the database, input more objects (Sorry Damien, didn't notice your paintings in first term, our paintings are not standarized).

The basic rules I've followed are: Guybrush Threepwood's sprite in MI 1 as the human reference for the size of the objects. Lines in the outer angle brighter than the shape of the object, inner angles darker. Light comes from upper left...

And sorry if moderators think that this ISO objects database should go in other thread, webspace, whatever... I'm in his hands to link this project whatever they want.

EDIT: The first AID tent is from Eboy.com!

As everyone seems to ignore the...
Quote from: Andail on Wed 23/06/2004 16:10:34Images shall be linked, not displayed.
...rule, I think I'll do so as well, but don't worry, I'll keep them small.

Here are two characters of mine, that I have posted before, in threads long fallen off the board before this thread was introduced. So I'll just post them again.

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/anym_right_talk.gif)The first one is the character formerly known as Luke Landrunner, which I originally made for benbigbrain (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=206) for a game called "The Adventures of Luke Landrunner", which unfortunately never came to be, so I asked him if it was O.K. with him if I posted the graphics I'd done so far somewhere for everyone to use, so here he is (again). You can find him at http://www.geocities.com/anymunym/char/char.html

(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/anym_right_talk_2.gif)The other one is an even older, nameless, female character for my first, possibly viking-themed game, which also never came to be, due to lack of a plot. She's available at http://www.geocities.com/anymunym/char/char_2.html

I doubt I'll make use of them or work on them anytime soon (if ever), so feel free to use or adapt them to your needs. Enjoy!

Also, shouldn't the first post be edited to reflect the stuff that has been contributed?

Quote from: Andail on Wed 23/06/2004 16:10:34All moderators are welcome to include the donations to this initial post and erase the replies.

This is a Ron Template that I took and got the  agsCreditz v1.1 plug-in working from the  Black Cauldron remake 1.11 .
You can go in to the 2 room and edit the credits in the room script ,and add your own rooms etc .
But do give credit to  AJA (Aki Ahonen) and to Ron for the gui if you use that gui .
And  yes   Rui "Puss in Boots" Pires you can put this on  your site :)
The  agsCreditz v1.1 plug-in is in the folder if you don't have it .
http://12.22.230.41/MicroTech/Host/Games/credittemplate.zip
I made a new one that does no use the beta AGS so anyone can use this template .
Just change the credits to your liking :)

I just noticed that Maniac Mansion Mania has the MM characters and GUIs available as source downloads here: Resources (http://maniacmansion.microspace.ch/resourcen.htm).

German page, but the GUI (with the characters and backgrounds pre-assembled into a game) is the first download link and the characters and backgrounds are the last two.

Not an artistic contribution as such, but I couldn't see anywhere else to put this in; if I'm wrong, then, admins, by all means move it to the appropriate forum area.

My offered contribution is, instead, in my capacity as senior writer for publications such as Web Wombat Australia and as a content writer for Gamespy/IGN (not to mention as a budding fiction writer hoping to be an immense world-shaking success at some point in the near future), and I'm happy to do any and all of the following: Editing, co-writing, suggestions and general typographical clean-up.

If you have a completed game manuscript you'd like formally edited, if you need dialogue or description assistance, or just a once-over for glaring omissions/errors/things that read really, really strangely, then I'm your man. PM me with a request and I'll be right with you. :) I don't ask for a credit (though that would be nice), I'm just here to do my bit for a great community absolutely saturated with talented programmers, writers, designers and artists. Y'all make the interweb a better place simply by doing your thing.

A nice little function that works as a replacement for Yes/No GUI's and such, and works much faster/easier.

In global script top:

function YesOrNo() {
  Display("Yes (y) or No (n)");
  if (IsKeyPressed(89) == 1 || IsKeyPressed(78) == 1) {
    if (IsKeyPressed(89) == 1) {
      return 1;
    }
    if (IsKeyPressed(78) == 1) {
      return 0;
    }
  }
  else {
    Display("You have to pick one!");
    YesOrNo();
  }
}

In global script header:

import function YesOrNo();

Example of use:

Display("Do you really want to steal that hat?");
int stealit = YesOrNo();
if (stealit == 1) {
  Display("You steal the hat.");
  player.AddInventory(ihat);
  karma --;
}
else {
  Display("You decide not to steal the hat, because your a good person.");
  karma ++;
}

Will ask the player if they want to steal the hat, make them click 'y' or 'n' to answer, and take action depending on that answer.

See?  It's a simple solution for idiot-proofing or double-checking.

Hi,
I hope this is okay for me to do, but I made a night-time version of ScottDoom's Asian-themed background. http://xs68.xs.to/pics/06070/contribution.png
I think all credit should got to ScottDoom, since all I did was spraypaint it in ArtGem and add a moon and some clouds (And a bonsai grapefruit tree and a flower that I made a long time ago on Paint.)
UPDATE: Ok, I have tons more contributions to give. But there are so many, I would prefer if you just sent me a message. I've got tons, so if you need something, just ask me.

Would sprites ripped from classic sierra games be welcome here? Where else could I put them?

Not that anyone missed me but White Elemental is BACK!

I personally will be using the MI2.7 GUI for my (intended) project, but by all means do it. After all, the MI2.7 GUI is also a homemade GUI  :D even though it's graphically and functionally ripped off of the LEC games... If you make something functional and useful, people could at least use it to make their own versions with different graphics.

I say go for it!

Sorry for gravedigging, but I figured, since I've written this (sort of -- I just wrote the code, all the "features" are ripped from Terra Incognita (http://nagssociety.com/)'s Aventure Starter), I might as well post it.

The randomness makes for some funny situations :)

So here is the Pulp Generator. Refresh for new results.

Here's some 3D characters, if anyone would like to use them in a game.  They are available in CHA format, or TGA images.

-----------------------------------------------------

Cassie
(http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Cassie.jpg)

(http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Cassie2.jpg)

Cassandra TGA:

Uncompressed size: 175 MB. Includes the images needed for a complete (8 direction) walk cycle, standing and speech animations, all in Targa (TGA) format. Images are 512x512, 32 bit high color. This is the best option if you plan to use her as an NPC that doesn't need a full walk cycle.

Download as TGA images: 7.8 MB
http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Cassandra_TGA.zip

OR

Cassandra CHA:

Uncompressed size: 64 MB. For AGS (Adventure Game Studio) games, all of the walk and speech animations are automatically cropped and set up for you. Just import her, and she's in the game. You may want to check for flipped images in the view editor after importing her. Cha exported from 800x600, 32 bit high color game. She's been tested at 16 bit color, and still looks great, but won't load for 256 colors. She looks good at 640x480. She works for 320x240 (but of course with lower image quality).

Download as CHA file: 7.1 MB
http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Character_Cassandra.zip

-------------------------------------------------

Brett

(http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/brettwalk.jpg)

(http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/brett_face.jpg)

Brett TGA:

Uncompressed size: 173 MB. Includes the images needed for a complete (8 direction) walk cycle, standing and speech animations, all in Targa (TGA) format. Images are 512x512, 32 bit high color.

Download as TGA images: 8.1 MB
http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Brett_TGA.zip

OR

Brett CHA:

Uncompressed size: 45 MB. For AGS (Adventure Game Studio) games, all of the walk and speech animations are automatically cropped and set up for you. Just import him, and he's in the game. CHA exported from 800x600, 32 bit high color game. He's been tested at 16 bit color, and still looks great, but won't load for 256 colors. He looks good at 640x480. He works for 320x240 (but of course with much lower image quality).

Download as CHA file: 7.25 MB
http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/Character_Brett.zip

--------

Large, you say? Yup, but they compresses beautifully, since there's a lot of  repetition.

If you use them, we'd love to here from you. We thought about doing more characters, male and female. We've gotten better since  our last game, and learned how to use the alpha channel more effectively.

You are free to use them for any purpose, but be sure to credit Make Human. I use them for portions of all my character meshes. They ask to be credited as follows:

A background I made a few months ago with Terragen. Didn't really know what I was doing but seemed to produce a nice ocean picture with clouds and  the water reflection.

I put very little work into this and doubt I'll ever use it for anything so I don't care about getting credit for it.

I am not shure if this is particulary useful for AGS adventure projects, but what the heck I post it anyway.

I have drawn some top-down 32x32 tilesets in the past. They were meant for a shooter project but that is now abondend long ago and I have no longer plans for them. Feel free to use! Pack includes some cool ground tilesets, some sprites and lots of unfinished graphics. Maybe you could study the style and finish the pieces :D

You can download it here: http://www.clicksandbleeps.com/images.rar

Good luck!

Hi all,

                  backgrounds free for anyone to use.

OK I first posted this in a thread of my own, I will post it here since this is the more appropriate place to post it, and also because I've made an addition.
;
I refer to this thread: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=30009.msg383594;topicseen#msg383594

And the addition is another beach background, I hope this turns out to be useful to someone.
(p.s. yes, this post was just an excuse to draw attention to my bgs again, and to announce that I found another old bg on my hd)

I share this template (http://misendeavour.com/getfile.php?file=fsifastgame.agt). It's not very complicated, some may say it's oversimplified, but for short games that's ok.
It's rather unfinished - there's only inventory screen and @overhotspot@ bar for GUI, no custom save/load things, Ctrl+Q to quit.
Broken-sword-style interactions (right click looks, left click walks or interacts), I think I finally polished it.
Comes with free Ted McBinky for your perusal (for more info (http://sillyflu.wordpress.com/category/mcbinky/), games won't download and not that I want it). If you want to make a game with him, you're encouraged to notify me about it :).
There's also a (sample) title screen and (sample) room to try it out - should compile out of the box, allowing you to test its abilities!

I don't think a forum post is enough to retain from copyright in the law of all nations. You should agree on "as long as it's not sold".

I'll just leave this here.

Empty Game 2 Template (http://monkey.05.06.googlepages.com/EmptyGame2.rar)

Looking for a template you can use to "test out an idea" or do something cool without all the fluff of the Default Game template getting in your way; but the Empty Game template not compiling without some work getting on your nerves? Or perhaps you find that even the Empty Game template's global script seems a bit cluttered and bogged down...

The Empty Game 2 Template contains very limited resources to help alleviate your pains! I've taken the liberty of cleaning up the global script, removing unnecessary views, dialogs, etc. leaving you with an "almost" empty game. I've left Roger in just as a point of reference along with the default walk cursor. Throw in the empty room of darkness and you've got a functioning empty game!

NOTE: I actually created this with AGS 3.2 BETA 4 so it's unlikely to work with any prior versions! Oops! If I get around to it I wouldn't be against trying to grab an earlier version of AGS (perhaps even back to 2.72) to recreate the template in that version.

Anyway, enjoy!

Awesome!  :D

But (and I don't want to sound like I disapprove of the use of pink), if you use 32 bit colour and save your sprite on a transparent background, you can bypass all that bothersome tidying up and import with an alpha channel, sexy smooth edges and all!

Nice work, anyway!

Post by: Ali on Sat 21/11/2009 13:28:55
I agree with Ben, a great guide! I also agree that 32 bit could improve the look (it might help to begin on a transparent backdrop too).

But if you need to use 16 bit and don't want to clean up the anti-aliasing with a brush, you should be able to tune the tolerance of the flood fill tool to do the work for you.

I found this walkcycle somewhere and cut it up in ToonBoom. 9 frames then back again for 9 frames.

It's not perfect and the feet need some work by you to be exactly on the line. I think frame 9/10 might be doublers too.

I apologise in advance for the size of this image, as I'm not sure how to do any of the click to enlarge stuff.
Here is a rather nice little image I found some time back while scrounging around in the GM resources list:

I was just going through my old archives and came across a really old tileset and spriteset I did for a game
many years ago. The game never saw completion, and I thought perhaps someone might find these handy for thier project.
Not sure how useful JRPG style stuff would be, but what the hell, they never got used for anything else.

So yeah, theres enough BG tiles to build indoor areas and two types of outdoor area. A handful of random NPC's and
the main character (redhead). Plus some other random stuff like sprites for the main char riding a small balloon...

So yeah, if anyone thinks they could use these go ahead! They never saw the light of day anyway, and I think there are a few decent sprites in there.

The stuff posted here is completely public domain, feel free to use it an any way you see fit.

You know, loads of the resources in this thread have disappeared off the face of the internet: some were hosted on 2dadventures before it was cleared in 2007, some were hosted on temporary file hosting services, some on geocities, and some on personal sites that are no longer there. I am wondering if these (and future) contributions can't be uploaded to some special ags upload thing? I notice that of the earlier contributions, many that were hosted on our americangirlscouts.org were all that were available. Maybe we can have some prominent "UPLOAD CONTRIBUTIONS" button or something, and a place for this stuff to be browsed. As it is, out of the previous 4 pages, this is all that remains (sorry for the large, and perhaps unnecessary post):

Strazer's Norbert Nicefellow font (http://www.strazer.net/ags/nnscifnt.zip)

It's GenericMan!

Here's a PNG file of a roughly 50-pixel tall skeleton walkcycle I made for use in my game Arden's Vale.
I was planning on having a lot of characters and figured that remaking a walkcycle for each character
would be incredibly tedious.

It's incredibly easy to use with GIMP or Photoshop, since you can just paint over it and adjust individual
layers as you go.  It's even easier to use in AGS since it's set up for group imports.  Here's the file as
well as an example of the final product in action.  The animation is perfect if you set your character's x-
movement to 4 and y-movement to 2.  Enjoy!

Hi! I hope this can help at least ONE person, Then it's all worth it! Time to give something back to the forums for all the help I've gotten here by all of you awesome fellas :D
Here are some walkcycles for you to use...It's only the legs as you can see...I know they might not be perfect but I though it could be useful anyway. they were made for Jimmy the troublemaker 2. You can just take these and put them under your premade torso. You can always resize these images and then correct the messed up pixels that appear when you resize something if you think they're too big/small hehe. So....hope they can help someone :D

Title: Vertex #1 - Free e-book filled with guides and tips about 2D & 3D art
Post by: LostTrainDude on Sat 01/09/2012 15:25:03
Just yesterday I stumbled upon this.

Ryan Hawkins (http://www.artbyhawkins.com/), an industry developer, gathered some other industry artists to write a 300-pages long 215~MB PDF (http://www.artbypapercut.com/) filled with tips, tricks, guides and tutorials about engines and techniques for 2D & 3D artits. Even if this is not so much related to this community, I think that could at least work as a pool of inspiration for many of us :)

Since it's free, why don't give it a try?
When I donwloaded it the download was very slow. I don't know if it still is, but anyway somewhere seems to be a torrent for it, but I didn't tried it.

Although the download (EU primary) seems to be ok.

I made these SCI fonts for my game, but since they're based on existing fonts, I wanted to release them for anyone to use.

You can get them HERE (http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/fonts.zip).

The ZIP file includes:

HARD CODED
font.hardcoded.0
font.hardcodedvarwidth.0
[imgzoom]http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/intellivisionvarwidth.GIF[/imgzoom]
The font used on the Intellivision console, both monospace and variable width. Contains the same garbage sprites as the Intellivision's GROM in indexes 0-20, just in case you're into that.

TUBBY
font.tubby.0
font.tubbyshadow.0
[imgzoom]http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/magicboy.GIF[/imgzoom]
The font used in Ocean's Magic Boy (and probably other Ocean games), in monospace. Includes a shadow font, again, just in case you're into that.

TOM THUMB
font.tomthumb.0
[imgzoom]http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/tomthumb.GIF[/imgzoom]
Tom Thumb (http://robey.lag.net/2010/01/23/tiny-monospace-font.html), a tiny Monospace font.

SONIQUE
font.sonique.0
font.sonique.outline.0
[imgzoom]http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/sonique.PNG[/imgzoom]
The stage title font used in Sonic the Hedgehog 1. I thought it had a nice art deco look. Has it's own outline font, so use that instead of the auto-outliner. No lowercase.

OVERLOOK
font.overlook.0
font.overlook.outline.0
[imgzoom]http://khato.furrified.com/DWEF/Releases/Fonts/overlook.png[/imgzoom]
A font based off of the one used in Hotel Mario, for kicks. No lowercase.

I like doing these. I would like to expand them out to the full ascii spectrum, but Radiant would need to update Fontedit again for me to do that, and I'm not sure anyone uses SCI fonts anymore. It's all TTFs and OTFs these days, which is a shame, because nothing beats a good hand crafted bitmap font.

I composed some music for a MAGS game last month, but the author obviously lost interest in his game. I asked him twice if he was still working on it, but he didn't even bother to answer.
So now I have two tracks that I don't have any use for, and I might as well contribute them to this thread. They are seamlessly loopable, and if somebody wants to use them in a game, feel free to do so. Both are quite cheerful, but different in style:

That's a really nice offer there! Do you have titles for these; the first one sounds a good fit to a little side-project I have, and I like to give credits where credit is due  (nod)

Problem,
you should tell the community who was the guy that doesn't even answer your messages.
What he did is bad and he should know that we all know what he did.

Btw, nice stuff you have there.

@Ghost: I haven't given them any titles yet. If you like, you can give it a title according to its use in your project. :)

@miguel: Thank you! I don't want to pillory anybody, so I won't make the name public.

I wonder if I ever contributed anything before? I feel like I had planned to but never got around to it. Anyways, here are a few loopable (is that a word?) pieces of music that I wanted to share with you guys, I had planned to make a simple "starter pack" so beginers could have a collection of assets (music, bg, sprites etc) to start giving AGS scripting a try. Started working on it in September, but these days I don't seem to have much time to progress, this is what I ended up with so far:

March of Spring (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/9tt9yfru5xld03n/Iddie%20Mo-%20March%20of%20Spring.ogg)

PromiseHeart (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/tycftme8193b1sa/Iddie%20Mo-%20PromiseHeart.ogg)

Turn The Key of Fate (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/9xjk6f25e8w52mg/Iddie%20Mo-%20Turn%20The%20Key%20of%20Fate.ogg)

I hope the 120 day rule doesn't apply to this thread :undecided:

Here is a link to some of my GUI'S (6), and some 3d characters. Can dig up the 3d models   for the characters from the cut sheet if required. Feel free to use these, just give me a credit some place. I like making  GUI'S  and 3d character models the most. I have made games before, not in AGS; but not finding the time to make full games, I still like making the bits and pieces. Always working on game ideas,art,music  and stories as a hobby.
