Title: The Samaritan Paradox
Post by: Peder 🚀 on Thu 17/04/2014 01:27:24
So I'm stuck at the dragon part

Spoiler
I thought the solution was to drink the water from one of the wells I can actually reach before I get the bowl of water from the dragon with water from the third well, but there doesn't seem to be any way I can do this.. Any hints?

I've gone to all the places and pretty much tried to interact with everything everywhere. I have the "sticky" rope, which I used to get the bottle with fresh water, dagger, ring and the bowl.

Yes Peder I got that far. Maybe I'm being a muppet however:

Spoiler
I assume I rotate the horse to face South, then East, then West, then North? It still seems to do nothing. I go Counter clockwise, then counter clockwise. Clockwise clockwise, clockwise. Or am I suppose to remove the horse when I set it to south, then remove it at east, then west, then north?

Edit: You ninja updated whilst I was posting. I'll try that out cheers

Oh dear, My game didn't seem to save!! Might take me a little longer to tell you I still can't do it!! :-D

Post by: Peder 🚀 on Fri 18/04/2014 19:32:20
Spoiler
If I remember correct the horse starts in a west position, so "Ride South my love, and long for me" rotate the horse 3 times clockwise so it ends up in a south position. "Ride east, but not too far" rotate the horse once anti clockwise. "Ride west" move the horse clockwise twice until the horse points west.

Hi, I also got stuck after solving the gallery stuff.

Spoiler

I'm in the beach and I already took the bottle from the boat but I have no idea what to do next. I guess I should clean the shield to light the beacon but I don't know how to do it (the shred is not working). I tried actions like use dagger on flowers but is not working either (not even a message). Is possible that is caused by a but?

Well, I'm stuck again, in the bunker...

Spoiler

...with the cane and the sundial. I'm sure that each verse from the poem in the calendar points to a number
- wonders (7 wonders but only one stands?) - I try to use number 1 and number 7 for that
- raiders (4 horseman of the Apocalypse?)
- Works of ancient hero (it must be Hercules' 12 labours)
- Seas (7 seas?) - I try using 7 and going from 1 to 7, one by one

Nothing happened. I'm doing something wrong but I do not know what. A clue or hint should help.

Spoiler
Just got past this puzzle myself, and had the same problem. Your logic is correct, but you need to first fill the bowl with drinking water, then use the bottle for the poisoned water. (I suppose it could be clued better, e.g. saying that the dragon would notice you refilling the bowl or something).

Spoiler

Read the calendar, got the cane, went to the bunker.  Tried: 6,4,12,7  Then: 7,4,12,7  and Finally: 1,4,12,7
Checked the library, reread the calendar, and become convinced that 1,4,12,7 should do it and still it will not open.
I dial up the #s, wait for the gear click between each #, exit the screen (it automatically takes the cane), and the door is still locked.  Help!

The trick is that
Spoiler
the answer block order is not in the order of the riddles as they were told to you. So the candle is the answer to the 3rd riddle told to you, but it is not in the 3rd row- select the candle in whichever row it is in.

Urgh... I'm at my wits' end in Chapter One. Got the book, reading/playing it, been to the Beach, Lighthouse, Cove, Cliff, got the bottle and bit of sail from the wreck (should be all the obvious things, at least), three items from the Cove screen, the shield is clean - but I just can't find a way to light the beacon. I'm just running around the island like a lab mouse on speed...

lighting the beacon:
Spoiler
*ahem* shiny shield *ahem*

full answer:
Spoiler
use the shield on the fence/railing next to the firewood at the beacon. You'll place the shield at an angel so that the shield will reflect a beam of light onto the beacon strong enough to ignite it.

It's a common enough fire lighting method (at least on tv): concentrate a beam of light either through magnifying glass/glasses or by reflecting it off something shiny.

Stumped once more, oh joy. I made it into the bunker, figured out the combination, but I appear entirely unable to 'make sure the coast is clear'. I have the tear gas, I think I saw the old bag mentioned in a previous hint, but I can't seem to do anything at all... I try to use the tear gas on the vent, I get 'There must be a better way to disseminate the smell.' Same if I use the Old bag. I can't combine the two items in the inventory. The same thing happens regardless whether the fan is on or off. The wheelbarrow is apparently fine where it is already... and I'm not allowed to leave the bunker. I didn't just run into a bug, did I? I assume the tear gas goes into the ventilation, but how?
Title: Re: The Samaritan Paradox
Post by: piperhcombs on Sun 18/05/2014 20:45:39
tinker around with the vent. Maybe something'll come off? Maybe something can be changed?
Title: Re: The Samaritan Paradox
Post by: Silent Warrior on Mon 19/05/2014 09:21:06
Nope. Not a thing. I've tried using every item in my inventory on the vent, on or off, no luck. (To be clear: the hotspot is named 'Ventilation Fan' - other hotspots in the room are 'Signs', some plaque near a door in the back wall, the code entry panel, 'Wheelbarrow', and 'Door' on the far right.) From your suggestion, I expected the Paper Knife would have some effect, but no.

You know, it felt somewhat strange to try to stuff the two Chapters into the fan...
Title: Re: The Samaritan Paradox
Post by: Snarky on Mon 19/05/2014 10:19:53
OK, if you can't get it, here's the solution (from memory):

Spoiler
-Take the fan off the vent
-Stuff the old bag into the left side of the vent (to block the passage of air)
-Examine the fan you removed to notice two wires
-Switch the wires to reverse the direction of the fan (it now blows instead of sucking)
-Replace the fan
-Turn on the ventilation (now it blows air from your room into the room behind the door)
-Use the tear gas on the fan: guard is gassed and runs away
