Title: Somewhere (interactive fiction for mobile)
Post by: Atavismus on Sun 04/12/2016 19:29:22
Hi AGSers!

I would like to introduce you my current (non AGS) project with Aniki (https://twitter.com/TheV1nce): Somewhere (http://www.somewheregame.com).

Somewhere, a whistleblower.
Somewhere, a reporter.
Everywhere, global dangers:
Mass surveillance.
Lobbies.
Biotechnologies.
Break the scandal.
Your path. Your choice. Your story.†‹

Somewhere (http://www.somewheregame.com) is a branching interactive fiction game for mobile.

Communicate in real time with Cat, a journalist contacted by a whistleblower who leaked classified informations from an huge agribusiness company.

Be wise, your choices really matter: Cat is in danger and a world class food scandal is pending...

Features:

- Real time gameplay (follow notifications or answer later when you want)
- Random events
- Up to 4 different choices
- Several endings
- Type directly an answer to a riddle
- Internet search to find the right answer
- Dynamic sound ambiance
- Go back and change your choice

Currently, it looks like this (but it will change a bit):

If you wonder about a similar game, Lifeline is the most relevant.

If you don't know that game, think about a gamebook/CYOA.

Mind, our website is partly emulating the gameplay, so you'll have a clearer idea here:

http://www.somewheregame.com (http://www.somewheregame.com)

I should/could talk about the tech side and the project progress but I feel that post is already too long. ;)

Of course, feel free to ask any question, I'll be glad to answer.

Cya and take care,

Atavisleaks (https://twitter.com/DustbowlAGS)

Sweet. This is one of the more ambitious-looking Twine games I've seen. I've got a little Twine side-project on the go as well, but it's pretty standard fare, interface-wise.
Good luck. I look forward to more updates.

Thx a lot Stupot+! :)
Twine is a great open source tool, really.
Complete and flexible.
You can "CSS" everything and add easily some javascript.
We build our own "format" and we use Ionic/Cordova for the hybrid mobile part.

Mind, I'm the writer (and CSSer).
Aniki (https://twitter.com/TheV1nce) is the coder and project leader.

I wrote almost 30k words and most of the code is done (but it's still a long road).
On month ago (roughly), we published a closed alpha demo (only in french) on Apple and Google stores.
Now we are working on feedbacks.
Then we'll finish the story and code.

The game should be ready early (first quarter) 2017 (first on iOS and Android).

The graphics look nice, but I fear this choice gameplay is not my cup of tea. There sure are people that like this kind of game, good luck with the game! :D

Thx.
I can understand.
Well, I would be happy with "only" half of the Lifeline's players. :D

Let's #PlaySomewhere all together on Twitter [Part 3]!

tl;dr

I'm in a hotel room.
Someone is trying to pick the lock.
I locked myself into the bathroom.

a)Call the police!
b)Cry for help!
c)Hide, quick!
d)Can you see a window?

The poll is here: https://twitter.com/somewheregame/status/862684896506114048 (https://twitter.com/somewheregame/status/862684896506114048)

Hi there!

It's been a while (the red warning tells me "at least 120 days"... 8-0).

But you know, we worked so hard on that mobile game...
(Let's make a textual game, it will be easy...)
More than one year later...
It's done!

"Somewhere: The Vault Papers" will be available 8th of March on iOS and April 26th on Android.

You can preorder it now on iOS:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/somewhere-the-vault-papers/id1340903844 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/somewhere-the-vault-papers/id1340903844)

We have 80k players on Android (demo):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tanuki.somewhere (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tanuki.somewhere)
Show me what you got Apple people! :D

But wait.
Maybe you even don't remember what is this game (or just never read/heard about it).

"Somewhere: The Vault Papers" is a real-time narrative game with a branching storyline and multiple endings.
It tells the story of Cat, a journalist caught up in a thrilling whistleblowing case.
She accidentally reaches you via text-message and urge you to help her investigate and... stay alive!

If you like Lifeline, Snowden or "choose your own adventure books", you should check Somewhere. ;)

I guess I already wrote too much.

I leave you with this screenshot from the store:

I'll be glad to talk with you about the game, so don't be shy. :)

Cya and take care all!

I never really like that feature, I just want to play my game without any waiting. Bought of a Lifeline game once and never finish it cause of that. But other than that the game looks interesting, maybe I'll check it out.  ;)

I understand (and I really mean it).
The fact you don't play when you want, but when the game decides is weird and disturbing.
Real-time disrupts our gamers habits, it's a good thing from time to time imo, depends of the game.
In our case, I guess it strengthens the realism, so the immersion.
You play Somewhere the way you text to someone.
When Cat (the heroin) is busy, just live your life or play another "normal" game. :D

Anyway, thanks for your comment. :)
