Thanks everybody who voted for Neofeud in IndieDB! Neofeud made it to the Top 100 Indie Games Of 2017 (Apparently out of over 10,000). We'll see if we beat Cuphead! (Not likely but one can hope!

Synopsis

2033 - We create AI. Sentient robots arrive, but not as our Terminator overlords or our Singularity saviors -- conscious machines are humanity's unwanted bastard children. A few are geniuses who design flying cars, beat cancer, invent teleportation, but millions of defective prototypes roll out of factories -- mentally challenged, motivationally-challenged, criminally-inclined. Legally conscious, but unhirable, these "Defectives" are shuffled through public housing and welfare assistance, straining the already overburdened back of the meager social safety net. The robots who don't end up in prison are dumped, as a last resort, into a massive landfill known as "The Pile".

Humans engage in perfection of their species -- or at least the powerful and well-connected -- genetically engineering children with human and animal DNA. The failed eugenics experiment "Frankenpeople" are discarded into "The Pile" as well. The new dynasties, 'Neofeudal Lords', live in towering neon glass castles, shuttle around in pristine nanotech-enabled pods, minds and bodies full of cyberware, spending most of their time taking selfies and "optimizing their monetization schemes". A race of supermen concerned only with their own status, their prestige, their success. Where machines have become all too flawed and human, people have become flawless, perfect, cold machines.

Karl Carbon is an ex-cop, dishonorably discharged from Coastlandia PD for disobeying an order to shoot an unarmed sentient humanoid. Karl is exiled to "The Pile" as a lowly social worker. There he counsels gangbanging foster-kid robots and confiscates chimera-children from deadbeat half-wolf parents. Till one day a case goes horribly sideways and Karl is drawn into a sordid conspiracy that could threaten the strained fabric of Human-Robot-Hybrid civilization -- or save it.

QuoteA Diamond Of Storytelling In The Scrap Pile

"When I play a game, I play to be compelled or immersed in some way. The game has to dig its claws in and drag me in. Walking away has to be difficult or that's exactly what I'll do. Neofeud grabbed me in just that way through its gripping mastery of storytelling, akin to how last I binged on episodes of Game of Thrones.

Neofeud is a point-and-click game set in a sci-fi dystopia borne of the minds of every prominent science fiction writer from the past century, from H.R. Giger to Ridley Scott. The result is a disturbing yet strangly familiar dystopian society in which social inequality is systemic, the top one percent have their own one percent, and the birth of A.I has resulted in a massive population of unemployed sentient robots. Sound interesting? We're only just dipping our toes.

Beginning by introducing the main character of the story, an ex-cop and currently social worker named Karl Carbon, the story of Neofeud quickly explodes into a story rife with pseudoscience and more twists than an M. Night Shamylan movie. As a single conspiracy unfolds, others follow, creating a story layered so deep that by the halfway mark of Neofeud's potential 15-hour game time I found myself questioning characters motives even more than the main character of the game itself.

Past endless conspiracies and a spiraling story, the characters of Neofeud are developed so much more than characters in nearly any other game I've recently played. Karl and the cast that he interacts with are human to a tee. Interactions with them are immersive and real, a necessity when a majority of the game is dialogue."

Sprites And Dice (http://www.spritesanddice.com/2017/09/review-neofeud)

Quote"This is an ambitious, atmospheric cyberpunk scenario and essentially the work of a single person (voice acting excluded). Oh, and it might also be one of the best adventure games I have played in a while, so there's that."
Granted, a lot of this is "just" good cyberpunk in the vein of Gibson, Dick, and Stephenson. However, the world building is something else. It has a thickness, a density to it. Almost every line of the game's technobabble fleshes out the game world some more. If that's your thing, the game is immensely enjoyable."

Indie Games (http://indiegames.com/2017/09/neofeud.html)

Quote"I did not know what to expect going into Neofeud, but I came out excited to see what's next for Silver Spook Games. The game has more than the surface indicates, which I loved. It offers social commentary, much like its many influences, but successfully stands on its own.
In the end, the art, gameplay, music and story come together to deliver a solid game. Check it out if you are looking for something different and cerebral."

Indie Ranger (https://indieranger.com/neofeud-review)

FEATURE TIME
- Tricky yet satisfying, point-n-click detective work, interspersed with action shootouts.
- Handpainted, uber-gritty, noir futureland. Makes Mad Max and Rick Deckard crap their pants.  1366x768 resolution for MASSIVE, fully realized backgrounds.
- Endless bombardment of witty one-liners from a veteran hardboiled cyberpunk writer.
- An original world and story that will (hopefully) make you question some of your core beliefs. Or at least my sanity.

Thanks!  I couldn't have done it without your support, Blondbraid, and the support of the rest of this awesome AGS community.  :)

Crossing my fingers now that it runs smoothly on everyone's machine.  If anyone wants a Linux version I can look into that.  (If we want a Mac version... we'll see how well the PC version does and maybe I'll hire someone to convert it for Mac!)

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS ON THE RELEASE!!!

The screenshots go way beyond anything I experienced as an early tester and it really looks like the game grew into something amazing!

Can't wait to check it out at some point!

Must be an amzing feeling to have cut the umbilical!

This looks amazing! Huge congratulations on the release. It's been a wild ride, but you're finally here - that's a great achievement for any game dev for sure. :)
I definitely need to get this on the next payday. :D

@Mandle: Thank you!  And you get a special thanks for your testing and advice, especially so early in the "game". ;)

@Dave Gilbert: Thank *you*, sir, for making games that brought me around to using AGS.  And can't wait to play Unavowed!

@CrashPL: Getting Neofeud out has been a Odyssey, no doubt, in the best and worst senses of the word, but it is amazing to be finished!  I am getting game-dev withdrawals already, in fact!  I do hope that you enjoy the game when you get paid. :)

I am playing right now and this game it's pretty awesome (and I love the soundtrack)
I had a little problem with the download link you give but I solved with some "wget -c $really_long_url"

One last thing: I tried to download the game with the itch.io client but it didn't worked: is normal?
Title: Re: Neofeud
Post by: SilverSpook on Wed 29/03/2017 20:30:02
Thanks all for your kind words!  I am just glad that folks are enjoying the game, because I had a good (if sometimes stressful) time making it!

@merlin86:  Sorry about the URL problem, I will look into that... What operating system and type of computer are you using, by chance?  I have not tried downloading through the Itch.io client myself, but I will look into that as well.  I know there is an issue downloading the game using Firefox.

Oh also!  If you want to have the soundtrack to listen to outside the game, it's over here: https://silverspook.bandcamp.com/ (https://silverspook.bandcamp.com/) :)

EDIT: Would anyone be interested in testing a Linux version of Neofeud?  Are there many Linux AGS users out there?  Let me know!
Title: Re: Neofeud
Post by: LuciferSam86 on Wed 29/03/2017 21:31:22
So, I tried downloading with:
- Linux
Firefox and Chromium and since I have some unstable connection (I guess) it got terminated before the full download.

- Windows
only with Chrome since Firefox won't donwload the file and same problem with downloading file

strange thing: downloading starbound from humblebundle did not get stuck, I downloaded it without problems...

i tried to disable the trafic shaper on my alix with no luck, and wget got stucked a couple of times but luckily the -c switch saved the day :)

Ok, thanks very much, merlin86!  I have just added an alternate download to the Itch.io site, if you could just do a test and see if it downloads at all that would be great.  Don't have to download the whole thing, maybe just see if it at least starts up.

I'm working with the Itch.io staff to try to get the Neofeud to work with the Itch.io app right now.

It's gotten over 500 views so far, but unfortunately, there are more "no" votes than "yes" votes. :(

Please tell anyone that you know that might like Neofeud to help with the "yes" votes!

The "no" votes may be coming from other devs currently on Greenlight, downvoting the competition in the hope of pushing their own game through -- which, AFAIK, is not how Greenlight works.

Here some likes and dislikes that I am finding during my first gameplay.

Note: I love this game, so I don't feel like I lost 15$ .

Like:
- The graphics: I am more a "pixel lover" but with this setting I really enjoy those graphics
- The story: androids, cyberpunk and dystopian future? I am all in :)
- The characters: they are not the usual "heroes" , they all have some flaws and I found them deep with some character progression (which is really good)
- Astoundig soundtrack

Dislike:
- Death: I think death in a "point-and-click" game, destroy some immersion (I like this (http://grumpygamer.com/why_adventure_games_suck) "design guide" from one of the grandfather of this genre: Ron Gilbert)
- Different quality from the voice actors: Some of them seem they speak through a phone, other are perfect and other are too near the microphone

for now that's it.

But, yeah, if I should give a vote to this game is a solid 8/10 , and I hope to see other games from SilverSpook

EDIT : I will update this post after I finish the game

Before I forget, I've decided to do a Let's Play Walkthrough of Neofeud.

Caution: walkthrough will contain spoilers / hints for the game, so if you plan to buy the game, maybe don't watch too much of it!

...

Thanks so much for your great and fair review, LuciferSam86!

I'm glad that you feel that the $15 price-point is worth it.  I lost a little sleep fretting that people might think it's too much!

Since it seems you liked the soundtrack, and since you bought the game by April 1st, you can get the soundtrack for free, if you haven't already. :)

RE: Death - I've heard about the death issue from at least one other tester.  I'll keep that feedback in mind for future adventure games.

Thanks for your vote, and please vote on Steam Greenlight if you can!  I'm hoping to do a Neofeud 2, or some other project if Neofeud 1 can bring in enough revenue to support the development. :)

I'd be down for a Neofeud 2 from what I saw of the first game. Hell, if you don't object, I can contribute more towards the development on it or any other project of yours - as in, not disappearing a few months into development (given good timing, of course).

Thanks guys!  We're over 200, so that's good, I think!?

Oh, and if you were thinking of getting Neofeud (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud), I recommend doing it by this Saturday, because until April 9th:

(http://i.imgur.com/ZaQzMuG.png) (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud)

Which essentially means you get the entire soundtrack (2 1/2 hours of music) and the original screenplay, for free!

:)

Totally forgot to add Neofeud to the AGS game database!  But I have remedied this sad state of affairs!

https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2144/ (https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2144/)

In addition, thank you all for the Greenlight votes, but it seems that Neofeud will be missing the window to get onto Steam.  Thus, I would recommend getting Neofeud either on the Itch.io site or Gamejolt.

And, if you have the cash on hand right now, I'd recommend getting it soon as there's a 25% off sale ending in about... 4 hours!  (This one is only on Gamejolt :)

Quotebut it seems that Neofeud will be missing the window to get onto Steam.

Huh? Did you get an email from Valve saying it's not going to make it? If not, you should leave it there.

Valve do not do vague windows. If they're going to shut you out of Greenlight's approval process you will be told forthright, I'm sure of it.

I'd like to own this game on Steam, it looks cool, it has feels, so stick with it until they explicitly say it's not going to happen. And TBF, you should still put it in with whatever follows Greenlight. Don't piss 2 1/2 years of your life out the window simply by settling for only gamejolt...! :P

Mostly I'm just looking at the Greenlight number required to get to the top 100, the current votes for Neofeud (1/10th of the way to top 100), and the announcement by Valve that Greenlight will be replaced by Steam Direct in Spring 2017.  Short of a major review or a Pewdiepie-grade Youtuber spotlighting Neofeud, it's tough to see how the math adds up. :/

If Neofeud doesn't make it on Steam before Greenlight ends, I will take a look at Steam Direct, which apparently could cost between $100 and $5000.  I just hope it's not at the 5k end.

Thanks for the encouragement though!

But the greenlight rank is no indicator if your game is getting greenlit or not. That's misleading, because Greenlight is not really a competition between games. It's about how well each game is received, and judging from my own experience with Kickstarter, the yes/no ratio of your votes is much more important than the rank. That and having some constant traffic I guess, but the rank doesn't say much.

Hey SilverSpook, massive congratulations on the release, I love how much passion you've clearly put into this project. I've not got around to playing it yet but enjoyed what I watched of your Let's Play.

Just though I'd chime in about Greenlight, it seems Valve are approving games in pretty frequent waves, I'm not sure how frequently but I submitted Guard Duty (my first submission to Steam) on the 22nd Feb and it was Greenlit on the 16th March. Don't worry about the 'no' votes, GD fell victim to that initially (there's a bit of a culture of people hating on 2D atm) but eventually had a majority positive (63%) and we ended with 435 'yes' votes. I'm pretty confident you'll get through, it's clear from the trailer that you have a finished product with all original assets and solid gameplay, that's mostly what they're looking for.

Chin up and don't give up hope!

Thanks Bavolis, Problem, and Chicky for the anecdotes and encouragement.  I guess I just kind of have been trying to figure out how the Greenlight thing works, having never used it before, and got a certain impression that you had to make it up to the top of the list to have a chance.  So it's good to know that that isn't the case necessarily. :)

At this point I'm just trying to figure out how to get a review or a Youtuber to play Neofeud (other than my own playthrough).  If anyone knows someone who might want to do such, let me know!

Sure, if you think he'd do it, why not!  Thanks!

EDIT:

4/17 - You can also vote for Neofeud on GOG! (https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/neofeud)

EDIT 2:

Question for devs who've gotten onto Steam...  If a game (i.e. Neofeud) gets Greenlit on Steam, and some folks have already bought the game elsewhere, would the developer (I) be able to give Steam keys to the folks who have already paid for the game elsewhere?  Thanks!

Voted.

Would MUCH rather see it DRM-free on GOG, than be forced to use a steam-DRM game.

Thanks guys for your support!  I like DRM-free myself if possible, also.

So the big news is, I'm planning to give away the Neofeud bonus content (soundtrack + script) free to anyone who buys Neofeud through the Itch.io store before Neofeud makes it onto Steam.

If you buy it early, you'll also get a free Neofeud Steam key when it makes it to Steam.  So you get the DRM free version AND the Steam version!  You can think of it as a pre-order of sorts. :)

In addition, Steam takes a much bigger cut of the revenue compared to Itch.io, so it'd help me out with financing Neofeud 2 if you bought through the Itch store. :)

Here's a link to it for convenience:

(http://i.imgur.com/am698ac.png) (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud)

*Note: if you get Neofeud accidentally on the same day as Neofeud gets Greenlit or something of the sort, don't worry, I'll give a reasonable grace period.  The main thing is just encouraging folks who are interested in the game, but want to wait for it on Steam, to put the order in early.

*Note #2: Yes, I am turning the brain-cogs on a new project.  Stay tuned.  ;)

Anyway, here's something I'm just going to mysteriously toss out there... ;)

Hi' I've finished the game. I found two bugs that always seem to appear:

The first one:
Spoiler
while following the robot girl, if you get out of range before she comes out, she'll then come out, and the game will crash trying to load the savestates at the same time
[close]
Second:
Spoiler
in the elevator (when you are with the security guards, if you click out of the elevator through the exit option, you won't be able to regain control again (and it seems to revert it to the state before it was unlocked), making you essentially stuck.
[close]

So I decided to do a live-reading of one of the stories from the Neofeud Short Story Collection. (http://www.lulu.com/shop/christian-miller/neofeud-the-short-story-collection/ebook/product-23177929.html)

"A sentient machine, one of millions of 'defective prototypes' mass-produced by tech-giants, winds up in a 'machine prison' due to 'substrate profiling' -- robot is the new 'black'. He's beaten, abused, and finally teams up with the robo-convicts to jailbreak from the supermax facility."

I should hope so, because the game itself made me seriously question my own significance within the multiverse where my very existence isn't factual but merely optional ;) It's also not the first time I thought the human body needs a serious  redesign to improve its overall functionality. But then again I don't have high hopes for the augmentation technology of the future, because it's going to be owned by corporations, mass-produced on the cheap, with planned obsolescence as its main feature.

But to get back on topic: just finished the game, and it's been a BLAST! Awesome, gritty, dystopian sci-fi, the way I like it. It's not about lasers and flying cars. It's a really biting satire on the world today that's as hilarious as it is scary.

"We had to bulldoze the low-city and dump the residents into the landfill, which was unfortunate." In this episode of 'Let's Play: Neofeud', we visit the bejeweled "upper crust" of the Stratoplex, where the rich debate the best way to cut benefits for poor people. Trump Tower Circa 2027!

Hi

whilst I think the graphics are beautiful in the trailer I feel it is far too static....if the portraits talk was animated this would imo improve my enthusiasm.. for a potentially great game...

Title: Re: Neofeud - On Steam Greenlight! Vote!
Post by: Fitz on Tue 30/05/2017 17:23:51
But they ARE animated. The portraits change expressions depending on their mood/context of what they're saying, much the same as they do in, say, Wadjet Eye games.
Title: Re: Neofeud - On Steam Greenlight! Vote!
Post by: SilverSpook on Wed 31/05/2017 21:42:49
Yeah, the portraits do change expression.  That was an unbelievable pain actually, especially the resolution up at 1366x768!

That video was not actually the trailer though, just a clip of a particularly dark satirical conversation. :)

Neofeud voice actor highlight #1 - Brandon C. Hovey

"Brandon Hovey plays an unhinged, sociopathic American dictator, from the dystopian adventure game Neofeud. Brandon discusses his process of getting into the "Apocalypse Now" mindset by chewing rough beef jerky and having some strong bourbon. Just a quick update: it seems like it will take a bit longer than expected for Neofeud to hit Steam, as their process of bringing games to Steam is not quite instant, and is even more involved in this new Steam Direct system.  If you'd like to play Neofeud, I therefore still recommend picking it up on Itch.io (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud)!

Seriously though, when you have a fan who really gets all the aspects of this thing you've slaved and toiled on (often in voluntary solitary confinement, as I did), it is the best feeling ever -- no amount of green grass, gold leaf cake, flying limousines or multi-billion-dollar orbital parties can match it. :)  So thank you, Fitz!  And thanks CaptainD for sharing!

My pleasure! I thoroughly enjoyed the game and indeed it resonated with me on so many levels.

Now, I wouldn't rush with the whole knighting thing ;) I'm so busy right now, slaving away on a super secret AGS-related project, that I had no sufficient brainpower left to play the Dysmaton demo yet -- which would be a capital offense for a officially knighted lord.

Hey AGSers!  If anyone would like to talk about one of their adventure games (a sci-fi / cyberpunk game would be cool, but not necessary!) and/or their art, gamedev process, etc. with Silver Spook in a podcast / video in the near future, please let me know! (post here or message, etc!)  I want to help spread the word about your game, AGS generally, and talk to some cool people (you are all super cool, so don't worry about that!)  I'm hoping to do this sometime this week, although the time is not nailed down.  Let me know!

Strong female characters in cyberpunk!

Deborah Dunaway plays literal royalty, as well as a trans-species kid, a Nazi bureaucrat, and more in Neofeud.

You can follow Deb here: https://twitter.com/bittersweetdb

I actually met Deb for the first time at a meetup with William Gibson in Kitsilano beach, Vancouver. We've been friends ever since, and apart from donating her vocal talents to the game, she's also backed Neofeud through patreon in the three-figure range. So thanks for that, Deb!

That image you keep using really reminds me of the trance den exterior from Technobabylon. Is that intentional?
Title: Re: Neofeud
Post by: SilverSpook on Sun 06/08/2017 20:18:05
I think it happened subconsciously, which makes sense, as I am a huge fan of Technobabylon.  It's one of my favorite point-n-click adventure games, along with Primordia.  There's a definite reference to Primordia in Neofeud in this scene:

Also, the achievements image is now fixed.

I'll offer pre-purchase freebies when Life Is Strange: Before The Storm (http://store.steampowered.com/app/554620/Life_is_Strange_Before_the_Storm/) does. :P  (I see they offer an old version of the main character, already made in the last game, pfff!)

There are actually a handful of *true* Neofeud fans who already have the Steam version for buying it on Itch.io early. :D

While you can't pre-purchase Neofeud on Steam, you can buy Neofeud right now at 33% off for the next five days!

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIDfoFtVYAEd4MA.jpg:small) (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud)

You'll of course get the Steam key free once Neofeud hits Steam. I'm also going to be using the proceeds from this flash sale to help pay for marketing for the Steam release, as I am currently broke. This is also cheaper than Neofeud will be during the Steam launch discount, so if you're thinking about buying it, now is definitely the time!

Good fun, thank you Christian for the cool insight and also kindly some keys to give away! Neofeud deserves to do well (nod) And oh, YOU made the music?? I think your multi-talent didn't quite sink in during the interview, but you are clearly a prolific sci-fi game developer, so kudos to you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbU1ZIoOOqs

Eek, board automatically adds and stretches that? OK :P

Bit rough to begin with, I don't think multistreaming is something I can do at this point but I abandoned it at 20 mins mark and the YouTube version (above) got smoother after that. Looks like the Facebook copy was smooth for the first 20 mins... I also wrote the ticker info in a rush before we started, the actual Steam release date of Neofeud is Sept 19th and the game that came 10th in itch.io lowres jam is Don't Worry, I'll Bring The Beer lool.

No problem Mark, thanks again for having me on your Augfest TV livestream, it was a real pleasure, and a lot of fun! I liked what you did with all of the interesting segments, like Key Cat, the theater, and the choose-a-door game. (Even if Pablo and I both lost it!)

I figured I owed you as much for helping me out during the somewhat daunting process of bringing my first game to Steam, sorting out achievements, and lots of other critical indie game issues I needed to get right for the Neofeud release that I was pretty clueless about.  This was all really invaluable advice and would've taken me much time to sort out, which I didn't have.

I look forward to the next Augfest event, with the makers of Lorelai. :)

And just a quick reminder to everyone:

Neofeud is on sale for just two more days! (https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud)

Pick it up now so I can pay for some advertising with the adventure game sites when it comes out on Steam! :)

Congratulations on the release date announcement, by the way. I've let my Youtuber friend know, so hopefully that's another customer. I'm looking at getting my copy in the Christmas period at the latest, due to money reasons, unless he decides to be kind and gift to me.

Oh, and do you want me to announce the Steam release on my Facebook writer's page, like I did the initial release?

In any case, bring on September 19th!

Awesome. I'll keep my eye out and share the Silverspook Facebook post, like I did last time.

Oh, and he's suggested a 'First 30 Minutes' video for Neofeud on his YouTube, rather than a full playthrough. I'll post a link, unless there are any objections.

I'm also thinking of writing a review after I get the game in the new year, depending on whether or not I'm busy with uni at the point. The only problem with that is that I don't have a platform to share that sort of content on, unless anybody wants to help me find somewhere. I may ask the YouTuber, but that would mean more time that I don't really have to create the accompanying video as well.

Well, that was longer than expected.
Title: Re: Neofeud - ON STEAM SEPTEMBER 19!
Post by: SilverSpook on Thu 31/08/2017 19:41:03
The 'First 30 Minutes' video is fine. It's his Youtube channel and I'm just happy to have some coverage of Neofeud! (It's a somewhat long game for the genre, I guess, so I understand.)

There are some game sites that you can submit reviews to. If nothing else, you can rate and write a review of Neofeud on the Steam store page (http://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/), when it's out!

EDIT: Also, does anyone here have Linux and like to help me test Neofeud on Linux? I'd like to release a Linux Steam version but only have access to Windows machines. Thanks in advance!

QuoteNeofeud is a great looking game and i don't know why but for me the best way to describe it is this line from Deus Ex: Human Revolution :

” How often have we chased the dream of progress, only to see that dream preverted? More often than not, haven't the machines we built to improve life shattered the lives of millions? “

It's always nice to be compared to Deus Ex. :)

Thanks guys! The good news is the response has been magnitudes greater than the initial Itch.io release. I think I have requests for Neofeud keys for review from about 40 different countries at this point!

To that end, would anyone be interested in doing some AGS community translations? I have never done a translation before, although I have finally figured out how to get a .TRS file of the game.

If anyone is interested please let me know, as I barely remember any of the Spanish and Japanese I took in college, let alone Polish, German, Italian, Korean, French... and countless others!  Thanks in advance. :)

Including Q and A, a "Gamedev while Married" segment, featuring Mrs. Silver Spook, and myself in my kingly robe (my blanket) and a royal crown (Burger King Hat).  Some never-before seen, pre-alpha versions of a game I'd just made in the last day called "Throne Games" where you play one of the royal families and must win the golden throne.  It's a Neofeud card game that's coming to Steam someday! That's cool, alphadalekben! I think I'm following him now, but feel free to post or otherwise let me know if / when he does some more Neofeud videos.

Here's some of the recent critical feedback on Neofeud:

And finally, here's an interview I did for Indiegraze (https://www.indiegraze.com/2017/09/19/interview-neofeuds-christian-miller/).

Hey guys! I've just released the first Neofeud update that implements a ton of fixes! Here's the full rundown from the Steam page:

(https://i.imgur.com/E1pOMcJ.png) (http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791459956117/announcements/detail/1460714790195373779)

"Hey cyberpunks, humanoids, Neofeudal lords and ladies!

Thanks for your support of Neofeud! In response to your feedback, I've fixed and patched up several of Neofeud's important issues. This latest update should smooth out and make for a better overall game experience.

To try out this update beta, simply:

1.) Right click on "Neofeud" in your Steam Library.
2.) Click on "Properties".
3.) Click on the "Betas" tab.
4.) Chose to opt in to the beta in the drop-down box.

I would greatly appreciate feedback on this update, so that I can ensure it improves the game for all systems and is stable. Help me make Neofeud the best game it can be!

Bug Fixes

- The Arcade Fight scene is now clearer, and less unnecessarily difficult and confusing. Getting away from the bar is simpler, and there's more time to handle the escape when being shot at by the SWAT behind the Kill Machine arcade game.

-Fixed the bug where you would get stuck in the arm screen if you use it during fight with Talos.

-Fixed bug where in the elevator (when you are with the security guards), if you click out of the elevator through the exit option, you could get stuck, and have to reload a previous save state to get out of it.

-Can no longer save the game from the start menu which would overwrite your progress.

-Fixed error message in High City, after 'giant spider area' 'in "room42.asc", line 326 Error:Face Character: characters are in different rooms'

-Fixed issue where 'firing your big object' in the High City office at the wrong time caused problems.

-Fixed issue where, while following the robot girl, if you get out of range before she appears, the game will crash trying to load two savestates at the same time

-Various typos cleaned, bugs squashed, wrinkles ironed.

Thanks for all of your support and help!"

Haha, yeah those apostrophes are actually glottal-stops, or points where you're supposed to pause airflow in pronunciation of Hawai'ian words. ( <- there's one)  Kind of like the way someone with an Essex accent pronounces the "t" in "water". :)

Also, I should probably mention this:

I've just bought Neofeud on Itch.io. But I need linux version and I am only able to download file named "Neofeud Demo V 1.3.zip". Regardless of the file name is it full version?

Edit: It seems it is windows demo version under linux version download link. Itch client also can't install the game. And I can't find steam key anywhere.

Is Neofeud becoming real? 8-0
Title: Re: Neofeud - In The Halloween Steam Sale!
Post by: SilverSpook on Tue 31/10/2017 10:43:41
Yeah, Neofeud is becoming a reality, except ironically, it's the human females who are property and the immigrants who are all still slaves in Saudi Arabia, while the "Hot White Robot Woman" has "rights".

Just give it a few years. We'll have the Gortzel-Takeda consciousness test out there to turn more people into pets and livestock soon, along with the non-hot robots.

Of course, this is nothing new, if you're a minority/immigrant/marginalized person in much of America, which is another big point of Neofeud.

Cyberpunk dystopia is here, it's just mostly ignored by mainstream media. But the pockets of suffering are growing and will be everywhere, soon, and we'll all be joined with the defective robots.

Greetings cyberspatials!

I'm happy to announce that I'm currently in the process of fleshing out the world, characters, and story of:

Here's a brief excerpt: "Queen Sybil The Good, First Comrade of The Egalite Cooperative, Breaker of Chains, Neofeudal's Bane, Mistress of The Multiverse" #amwriting

Secondly, I am currently attempting to get Neofeud ported to Mac!

If anyone has interest in a Mac version of Neofeud, please let me know as I'd like to gauge the interest in a Mac port before I commit too many resources there. If you have a bit of time and the right hardware to test a Mac port, also let me know, thanks.

Oh, and here's another review of Neofeud by Save Or Quit! (http://saveorquit.com/2017/12/03/review-neofeud/)

QuoteThis game really surprised me in a positive way. All the small puns here and there contributed a lot to my overall enjoyment. I never tired of all the little fun things that popped up every once in a while. Even though the puzzles are mostly really simple and small, the atmosphere and easter eggs make up for them. This isn't a game for hardcore point ‘n' click puzzle fanatics, but this is a game for players who like to enjoy a good science fiction story set in a world that feels familiar and possible in the near future... It is a worthy addition to your steam account if you want a quality, fun story to play through.

NEOFEUD MADE IT TO THE TOP 100 INDIES OF THE YEAR! Thanks everyone for your votes and support! Neofeud can now use your vote again in the final round for ultimate indie of the year on IndieDB!

In addition, I just had a great talk with @PeaHeadGames creator of Neon Sword, cyberpunk RPG where you can use commerce or violence as your weapon of choice!

Some of Neon Sword's Game features:

-Explore the neon bathed Quaid City.
-A living breathing city with a diverse population.
-Buy real estate and influence the city around you.
-Collect different and unique clothing items.
-Kit yourself out with entire arsenal of hardcore weaponry.
-A deep branching storyline.
-Save the city or run it into the ground it's your choice

Finally, here are a couple more reviews recently published on Neofeud:

This first one is in Spanish (sorry) and I wish I was fluent so I could read this great Neofeud review in its native language, but thankfully there is Google translate!

Quote"A much more complex world than what is shown in Blade Runner, which inspired it, and this game also poses itself as a more in-depth and realistic reflection of the dilemma insinuated by the replicants."

"From the point of view of music and dubbing Neofeud has nothing to envy of major titles."

The reviewer also compared Neofeud with Neil Blomkamp and District 9, which is a high complement for me, since I consider D-9 as one of if not the greatest sci-fi film of the past few decades.
https://nerdando.com/2017/12/04/neofeud-unavventura-cyberpunk-profonda-e-retro/

And one more review from Save Or Quit:

Quote"Neofeud is a carefully crafted story that plays out like an interactive detective/mystery movie from the 80's... This is a game for players who like to enjoy a good science fiction story set in a world that feels familiar and possible in the near future."

http://saveorquit.com/2017/12/03/review-neofeud/

And finally, my Deus Ex 1 total conversion Terminus Machina has been featured on IndieDB's sister site, ModDB! Thanks for the highlight, guys! You can also see a video of me replaying this mod that I made about 7 years ago with developer commentary.

Funhaus, a Youtube comedy channel with over *1.3 million subscribers* just did a short play / comedy video with Neofeud! The video has only been out a few days and it's got over 190,000 views! It's mostly just sillyness, but as a one-guy team with zero budget this is a huge Christmas present, especially considering a bunch of those 190,000 viewers commented "This looks awesome!", "I just bought Neofeud" or "Why haven't I heard of this before!?" so thanks for that, Sir Lawrence!

A little moderator intervention here - are the last handful of posts relating to a sequel, i.e. a different game in production? Or is this some kind of patch?

It's a bit confusing that you're bumping a completed game's thread with info about another game.

Neofeud has been out officially on all platforms for over 1 year this month!

Thanks everyone who has supported me in the making of this game and my other projects. I was not getting my hopes up on my one-person weird cyberpunk adventure game, expecting potentially to just have a few hundred sales, so I am blown away by how successful the game has been so far:

-Sales in the thousands
-Wishlists in the ten-thousands
-Rated "Top 25 Cyberpunk Games" by Gamers Decide http://www.gamersdecide.com/pc-game-news/best-cyberpunk-games-pc
-Voted "Top 100 Indie Games of 2017" on IndieDB (point and click) https://www.indiedb.com/groups/2017-indie-of-the-year-awards/top100
-Featured on Funhaus, a Rooster Teeth production https://roosterteeth.com/episode/gameplay-2017-neofued
-Soundtrack of the Year, AGS forums. https://silverspook.itch.io/neofeud/devlog/28642/neofeud-soundtrack-best-music-w...

And the sales and recognition just seem to continue to grow over time rather than peter off, so that is great!

Anyway thanks again to all my continued patrons and of course to William Gibson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhkoIwKs5PA) for coming on the podcast. Now I just need to get Keanu Reeves on there!

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DpjMUMKVAAEB42c.jpg:small) (https://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/)

Two things right off the bat:

1) This is game is WEIRD AS F***!

2) I absolutely loved it!

Fun and hugely engrossing gameplay for a single developer game!

Pros
------------------
-Cool main characters! Even the background characters added alot to the atmosphere of the game.
-Well designed animation and backgrounds. The artwork has kind of a Mission Critical/Harvester/Darkseed vibe to it that I enjoyed but may not be everyones cup of tea. They really put you in a cyberpunk futuristic mindset and meshed well with the story of the game.
-Excellent writing . This game definetly satisfied my cravings as a big sci-fi/cyberpunk fan. Interesting use of cyperpunk
tropes and existential philiosopy.
-Certain scenes were really engrossing and felt like i was watching a movie. (Vistiting the Arcade and Proto-J coming to terms with his father stand out especially)
-Awesome music (2017 AGS awards winner for Best Music). I'd strongly consider buying the standalone soundtrack
-Point and click puzzles are challenging yet mostly logical

Cons
--------------------
-Setting up graphics settings in adventure game studio was a pain.
-Voice acting was hit or miss for me. I enjoyed Proto-J despite what other reviewers said. Other characters came off lacking emotion in certain cases. Some recordings of voices didnt sound like they were done in a professional setting (Goetzel at times sounded like he was being recorded in an office or something)
-Minor glitching and bugs (overall pretty stable though) that required a restart or two
-Certain in game interfaces have a clunky appearance (OK and EXIT buttons that don't fit the overall game aesthetic)
-Action/stealth sequences rough around the edges
-Animations can be a little "stiff" at times. Character movements can be awkward.
-Walking routine can be slow for larger scenes.

The cons overall I would say are just roughness around the edges and I attribute to the clunkyness that can come with a game designed on Adventure Game Studio. And I can hardly place blame for these minor issues considering the overall work that went into this game by a SINGLE developer.

You can tell that this game was a labor of love and it really shows in all the pros it has going for it. Again, it's very impressive AGS game from a single developer! Overall length came in about 10 hours which for someone that picked it up half off was a good value. This game is frequently on sale and I'd say you'd have no regrets picking it up if your a fan of sci-fi point and clicks! I am definetly looking forward to the sequel. If Neofeud 2 is every bit as ambitious as this one it will be a must purchase for me!!

And like the game says:
Remember, winners don't use drugs... Mostly

Another couple recent reviews:

"The art and writing are stellar. It's a great cyberpunk adventure."

"In 2018, when I am writing this review, there is a loose collective of passionate AG developers on the internet. These developers have formed a small community where they support each other and promote each other's work. For a lot of these folks, their games are passion projects â€" despite limited development resources and relatively modest sales numbers, each pixel is labored over and rendered with love. For these AG enthusiasts, the work is a passion project.

I used to be a casual AG fan but in the past few years I've gotten increasingly into the genre and now you could say I am something of an enthusiast. I've been seeking out or revisiting old classics, I've been following the development of new games and buying them at release, and I've also been becoming increasingly invested in the community of small devs like Silver Spook who are putting out titles like Neofeud. It's pretty neat, as it's not unusual to see these folks livestreaming their development on Twitch while hanging out with friends and fans â€" if you pop into a few of these things, you begin to feel less like a passive consumer and more like an active member of a community. I find myself really rooting for Silver Spook, folks like him, and the games they make.

With that said, I am pleased to give Neofeud a big ol' thumbs-up. I am always very impressed by one-person games, and in this game, this one dude did the writing, the art, the programming, the music, and a sizable portion of the game's VO.
Neofeud feels a touch rough around the edges, but the issues I encountered were minor and did not really affect my enjoyment of the experience. In fact, I would argue that on some level they added to the game's charm. While I found the game's art to be a bit odd at first, it really grew on me as I played. My initial impression from the trailer was that the art had sort of a glued-together kidnapper-ransom-note quality to it. However, it feels really unique to the game and I think it ultimately lends the whole experience a surreal quality that serves the game well.

Some of the other reviews here have mentioned that the game is a bit ham-handed in its exposition, and that's a fair criticism. I would not use the word “subtle” to describe the game, and its characters tend to monologue a perhaps little more than strictly necessary. The game also throws a lot of very detailed flavor text at you which is all very interesting â€" but it does feels like a bit you're on the receiving end of an idea-machine-gun. I hope a Neofeud 2 would maybe kick it back a notch and shoot a little less broad but a little more deep. There's some great stuff here, it just needs some space to breathe.

Here's what I enjoyed about Neofeud:
First, it's classic cyberpunk. You are a disheveled government worker who goes from the slums to the highest halls of a corrupt aristocracy to take it down. I love how honest and earnest and straightforward the game is in its love for the genre and belief in its message. There's some great sequences â€" my favorite bit was a really effective portion of the story where have to perform a child protective services visit and get confronted with some ethical questions. There's a solid and memorable cast of characters. There's a really neat soundtrack that I think was at least partially based on sampling a dialup modem.

Go play this game. It needs your support, and you need more ambitious, intelligent, from-the-heart one-man cyberpunk adventure-game tour-de-forces in your game library."

@Slasher: Oh, oops I meant to put it at 60% at that point, mistyped it in the title.

Currently playing it, enjoying the story immensely but came across a bug.
Spoiler

When you head back to Goetzel's lab when he's alive, I've spoken to him and got the Jack of Diamonds clue, read the phone, read the notes and got stuck. Tried to leave and the game asked me to leave and then the game started playing the scene of dialogue when The Artist comes out, the vat falls and the characters live and end up in Norman's office and the following error appears:

"in "room42.asc," line 326
Error: FaceCharacter: Characters are in different rooms."

"Wow, what a journey. Took me more than 12 hours, and it felt like I played through 2-3 sci-fi games, that's how much content is in the game. The art style is something I've never seen in video games. The puzzles are fine (a few times had to check a walkthrough, but that's normal in adventure games). User interface can be a bit clunky at times, but overall a very unique experience, with an interesting sci-fi story, fleshed out characters, and top-notch soundtrack.

Neofeud is a very underrated game, only has 42 reviews on Steam. Also the sequel is under way, so its a good time to jump in. And by doing so you support a passion project of one man. I cannot fathom how can one person be so multi talented, to be able to write(story and dialogue), program, voice act, and make art and animation. A strong recommendation for adventure games fans, if you like Wadjet-Eye Games, this is up your alley." --Steam Reviewer (https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198015857674/recommended/673850/)

If you've played and enjoyed Neofeud, it would help me out a ton if you've got a second to leave even a very short review! I've only got 44 so far and if Neofeud can get to 50 it would help give it visibility. If not, no worries!

Neofeud is 70% off this week! (https://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/)

One of the recent reviews:

"I love this game. I freaking love it. The voice acting is pretty good for a one-person dev team with some help from some friends and family (maybe a couple hire-ons I've no idea) to do voice acting. This guy drew *everything* and it's quite charming and detailed art. I spent a long time staring at every screen looking for small details and references, and they never disappointed. The music is fun, the script is phenomenal, and the philosophy is excellent.

Buy this game. Then give $45 dollars (filling out a $60 price tag) to Christian Miller because he obviously worked his ââ,,¢Â¥Ã¢â,,¢Â¥Ã¢â,,¢Â¥ off to make this wonderful piece of art. Then go work in a soup kitchen or do something else positive to affect the real world you live in in a way that matters. Things aren't simple, but we've all got to support each other in real ways. Playing this game is not at all a bad way to give your brain some fuel for how to think about doing this. This game was made because a community of people helped a person express himself, and worked together. How things should be for a workable and healthy society.

Thanks Christian Miller+cast+support, this is a wonderful game. I am very much looking forward to Neofeud 2!"

Happy Halloween! Neofeud is on sale (https://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/) :)

Here's one of the recent reviews:

"Holy 90s adventure revival, Batman. Neofeud is a non stop feast of deja vues of interesting but arguably worse games from the 90s like Noctropolis, Harvester or I Have No Mouth and I Have To Scream, done mainly by a (arguably very very intelligent) guy that is from Hawaii and works as a robotics teacher in a probably difficult place - meaning, what you see in the game are things that probably he has been living there. The best part though is how he mixes all the 90s "cd rom multimedia" cyberpunk aesthetic and how he runs with it all along. And the game is very well written, very fair (for the moment at least) and has atmosphere in spades."

Neofeud is 70% off again! (https://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/) What are you waiting for!? :D

And at long last, Neofeud Steam trading cards are now available! Go from Nano-Augmented Hobo to Cyborg Wage Slave to Neofeudal Monarch-CEO and finally Six Billion Dollar Baller! :D

In addition, I'm currently experimenting with creating a Neofeud card game using the art I've spent years painting. Maybe something in the vein of indie cyberpunk card game 'System Crash', which I really liked and am still playing during downtime.

"Neofeud is an absolute gem of interactive cyberpunk storytelling.

The thrilling, vibrant scenes of this reality-bending adventure unmask the gritty, dystopian society that awaits us in a not-so-distant future. The twists and turns of this indie masterpiece will change the way you think about technology, empires, and the societies that take shape within them.

Satisfying puzzles, loads of unique artwork, and a strong character-driven narrative make this a game I can't recommend highly enough!"

"Neofeud is one of my favorite adventure games as of late. It has awesome retro graphics, great voice acting, and a story that illustrates real world injustices and actually makes you stop and think for a minute about the future.
