I like the style, but am wondering if using such gfx can be popular with many people...

The atmosphere was very good in this game :) And given i started using computers with an 8bit machine (the ignoble and generally crap Amstrad CPC6128) i do see some magic in such gfx.

the animations inbetween are cool, but the normal game graphics look very basic, reduced and ugly to me. Even on the C64 there has been a better use of color to make sweeter gfx.

I agree, yet there is some magic in them, due to being so rid of any detail ^^

Also, the teaser for Faith2 is very cool:

I actually like the visuals, this is the kind of gfx style, with lack of detail, that made old games so captivating IMO. Everything you see on screen is an element of gameplay, and nothing but that.

Now, sounds is a different thing...

UPD: I decided to watch the Let's play video here:

And frankly, while visuals may be a good choice, the choice to replicate old-computer speaker producing voice is terrible, IMO. Very annoying and immersion breaking.

I don't mind it that much, because it also sounds weird. Though the human sounds like that too, which does make it less ominous (laugh)

I totally agree with you about simplicity of style being sometimes a bonus. :) And yes, the old 8bit games did have that going for them.
I think part of the effect is that the player has to accept the world as 8bit graphics, so the player already is more sunk and runs less of a risk to find something as unrealistic due to how it is drawn. (eg in a game with intricate gfx you have to spend a lot more time making everything be of the same style).

Yes, I mean protagonist's voice mainly, it makes my ears hurt :/.

BTW, speaking of the artistic style and its connection to gameplay.
Check these couple of minutes in the video:

Spoiler
https://youtu.be/39WkeNLfQX4?t=654

First player sees something "purple" in the window of a house.
Then he enters the house, and sees a picture of a family, where the daughter is drawn in purple color.
Player immediately makes a connection.

I think that is as simplistic as genius.

I don't care for this art style, but if its a good game and has a good story then I would give it a chance. I never played Undertale but I read that some people thought it was bad because of the graphics and it turn out alright. So I don't judge games by graphics because I've been surprised too. Many games have the best photorealstic graphics and aren't the best. So if you made a game like this I would play it. (Not sure if that's what you were asking just thought I leave my two cents.) 8-)
