Yeah, I decided not to go with the file folder. I just couldn't get it to look right. Besides, there's a reason it was a book in the first place.

i'm not the biggest fan of Blade Runner, but I love the stuff that it's inspired, especially Kojima's "SNATCHER," which inspired my own Alpha X games. You can especially see the inspiration in the appearance of Harrison Ford's character.
Oh, this was funny, BTW. Not as funny as Vader Sessions, though.

Hmm, that gives me a good idea. Can you animate a gui? I was thinking (I'm at work right now, so I don't have access to photoshop to do a mockup, but bear with me), a file folder with the action tabs on top, and on the right, like you have them there, Progzy, the menu tabs on the right, and when you click on a tab the appropriate "file" gets pulled out.
If that is possible, how would I go about it? I normally try not to ask tech questions (especially in the wrong forum <cough>) but if the manual is slim on any one point, it's GUI's. I had to pull apart the default GUI and study its inner workings to make the GUI for ALPHA-X because the manual doesn't explain GUI coding very well and I couldn't find any tutes on it.

Okay, here's an update. I took in everything said so far (except to inventory ideas, which I'm still pondering). Also changed the game in the background (this ones not mine, apologies to the brothers Chaps!)... Also was wondering about the hotspot bar... think it seems a bit out of place. I could have made it a post-it hanging from the top, but i dont think i'd be able to get the same font...
Tell me whatcha think!
edit: oh, and by the way, the gui pops up on mouseover, so it wont take up any playing space (not so with the hotspot banner).

Hey guys. I'm working on my new super secret project, but I wanted to drop the GUI on you for C&C. Whaddaya think, and what can I do to improve it? The tone of the game is kinda dark, like most of my others, so I'm not sure about the bright colors... the main character has sticky notes all over his office, so I figured it was appropriate. Should I maybe make them all yellow, or perhaps desaturate a bit, to get more of a hollow, darker feel?
Also, I can't think of how to do a matching inventory menu. Any ideas?
(note: the BG is not a screenie of the game, it's a capture from one of my older games. Also note that I made the font from my own handwriting.)

@ Matt: I will kill you if you don't figure out what's important in life!
@rharpe: I don't remember ever hating you. As I remember we had some decent conversations. That doesn't add you to my running crew automatically tho. Esper only runs with the wildest pack.
@ most everybody else: Part of me not wanting to come back here for a while was the shame of having lost the source file for Alpha X when my computer spontaneously combusted. I was almost finished, and then poof. I was mortified. Have you ever had to call a company you're contracted with and tell them you have to pull out because you didn't take proper backup procedures? Plus, I knew if I came back empty-handed you guys would kill me!
Like I said, I've got something in the works, tho. I just really wish I could find an animator

Hey everybody.
So, a long time ago, I came in here and I was all "I'm back, yo! I'ma start posting and being a part of the community again!" And then I spent the next few years wandering the countryside (really). Hopefully I'm really back this time, and to commemorate it, I'm working on a super secret project. Keep your eyes peeled.

Looking to recreate my classic AGS game ESPER: The Town on the Edge of Darkness. If it goes well, I'd like to make a series. I need an artist/animator and a musician. The original game is currently available here: http://superdownloads.uol.com.br/download/66/esper-the-town-the-edge-darkness/
Artist doesn't need to be able to do the original style, but it does need to be dark and atmospheric... darker and more atmospheric than the original. Also, the original game didn't have much in the line of animations. You need to be comfortable doing advanced animations.
For the music... I got the most comments originally for the great atmospheric story and the music, but I'd like a creepier and more unique soundtrack. If you've played the original you know what I'm talking about.
I was working on a sci fi game, but my computer crashed and I lost ALL my progress on it. I only just now got my computer back up, and I've decided my forte is the horror genre, so that's what I'll stick with.
The original game has gotten some very favorable writeups, one of which can be found on Abandonia. I can assure you, this game will be successful.

« on: 27 Apr 2007, 04:28 »Flashback: Quest for Identity - Yes, the graphics and animation are awesome, but the game is so frustratingly, unbearably difficult. And the password system is killing me. I want to play the game for 5 minutes, but it forces me to play for an hour or two.
I love Out of This World (Another World, also by Delphine software), and I enjoyed Heart of the Alien on Sega CD, but I could never get past the first section of the first part of the first level of Flashback. After you get the holocube and kill a couple random guys, I can't find out where or even how to progress next. I have it lying around here somewhere, and I'd like to pick it up even all these years later (I'd plug my SNES back in just to play it), but it's so damn frustrating I punched a hole in my wall playing it as a kid. Then I laid upside down against the wall, started crying until my mom came, and told her I fell off my top bunk and put my head through the wall...

I've been playing a lot of Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on my Wii. I'm not a fan of the series, but the game is more fun, literally, then jumping inside the Grand Canyon when it's been filled to the brim with Juliard-trained vaudevillian chimpanzees. In addition, I've been playing tennis and boxing like mad on Wii Sports, pool on Wii Play, Excite Truck, and Red Steel. I'd like to get some other games. Anyone now anything good? I'm totally loving my Wii, so much so that I gave my older brother my XBox 360.

Okay, I got called in to work, so I'm going to have to call a stop to this three hours early, but I don't think anyone was going to submit in those last few hours anyway. Thanks to all the people who submitted and helped to keep this great, but sadly perishing, contest alive. The decision was broken down thus:
Third is The Dnumanator for being the first to actually follow the rules of this contest. It took me forever to actually see what was going on there, but it is indeed brilliant and does follow the rules of the competition.
Second is zabnat for chancing to use the adventure game genre. Very nice, very nice.
But, in the end there can be only one, and that one is Christopher Lambert. AKA Connor Macleod, AKA HILLBILLY for doing his homework and finding out that I'm a fan of the japanese horror genre before posting. Samara / Sadako rules supreme.
Conngratulations to everyone else who submitted for their good work and keen PhotoShop skills. You've earned the prestigious and coveted "consolation prize / participation award / Failure to Read the Rules chastisement" trifecta award. Good work, bad reading skills
