Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re: AGS in the media
« on: 05 Apr 2012, 07:37 »
Hope this isn't redundant, but I'd hate for any of my fellow AGSers to miss out on these nice pieces by Rock Paper Shotgun's Lewis Denby:

1. Exploring the Studious World of Adventure Game Studio
In which the author speaks with a few public luminaries who share a tool of choice in AGS.
2. Play These: The Best of Adventure Game Studio
In which the author suggests a few (mostly recent) games which are organized by flavour.

Nice to see in the second article's comments that readers are eager to remark on what's most conspicuously absent from the best-of list. (For my money, Nelly Cootalot's absence is the most profane, but taste is a spectrum and that's the beauty of AGS: it makes all kinds.)

While compiling an exe, AGS's dialog box reads: "Please wait while your game is created." But somehow I always end up with only the things I've already imported. I must be doing something wrong?

Great piece - nice and sharp under a tough deadline. Can't wait to see more from you, sir.

I think I might ask the makers of Red Volition if I could use their character.

Tiamat Co. gives their official blessings. 로봇 웃고있다.

Holy smokes - sorry I hadn't seen this thread until today.  You're right to believe in a way through the last fight. There's a hint in the manual (although somehow the installer used by the bake sale folks breaks the folder structure and the images don't display correctly). Anyway, all it says is:

Don't attack the CPU at the end! -RH

If that's not explicit enough....
Be sure to try using all of your non-damaging abilities against the CPU.

Cool! Will one be able to update the cabinet to the newest version of the game? :)
Sure. Right now it's running a version with a silent attract mode so it isn't too annoying while idle.

General Discussion / Re: AGS get-together around GDC?

Super late on this (of course), but it's quite likely I'll stumble into town for this thing. Would enjoy imposing my simian butt on Dave's party if there's room at the table. Anybody else?

Thanks, Ghost! It's funny you should say that about art; the photo was taken in the gallery and the piece of paper is my snooty "artist statement". It took my buddy Wardo and I about eight days, plus one fretful all-nighter before the opening.

Well, game sales are down so I got a job selling used furniture.

Free shipping!

I'm half inclined to taunt those who've clearly grown soft on leisurely pointing and clicking exercises, but if the speed is a real problem I'm always eager to fix problems.

Ali and jkohen: Have you tried utilizing the "boost" ability?

It makes all of the minigames easier and extends their time limits.

Try to get the horizontal bar in the middle when you hit the space bar...

And the effect lasts for the whole fight.

But this suggestion only applies in a universe where the game operates at the same speed on all machines. Hey, jkohen: are you saying the gameplay in the trailer is slower than it is on your machine?

Anyway, thanks for playing the game everybody!

It's unbelievable how fast this was funded.

14
Holy smokes! I just spit coffee everywhere, cartoon style. I actually really did.

15
Thanks, Ben and Ghost!

I never played the original, but this... is good stuff.
Yes. About that...

This is the original. I mean, there was no original. Wait, I mean... that story is fictional. Shh.

빨간 결단력 would be a literal translation (결단력 빨간아요 is incorrect), but it's awkward in Korean since it's strange in Korean to give something a property that it normally doesn't have (a color).
This is fascinating! Please elaborate! (We played with 결단력 and 의욕, and then 빨간 [Noun] vs 빨간색 [adjective]. The game's working title was 의욕 빨간아요 before we changed it.)

??? ????
RED VOLITION

A small turn-based rock-em sock-em robot RPG, Red Volition was made as an exercise in programming and Korean Hangul, but is suitable as a leisure game for those fond of strategic action and shades of red.

Currently this game is available only through the AGS Bake Sale*.
Download hereRushJet1* = The author would prefer that the children who might benefit from the sale aren't exposed to the game itself. For, you know, health reasons.

So much heart in this game. Contributing this to the bake sale was very generous, Ghost.

Gate grame, y'all. As I've said to one of the game's authors in private, Fragment is very provocative and I think that everyone who plays it will be highly stimulated. There's a hugely relevant, sensitive facet of the new human experience that's being targeting by the bigger gestures in the game, for which I applaud the authors' bravery, but more importantly it's fun and the puzzles have an increasingly harmonic quality - a real adventure which is just beautiful both to play and to stare at.

I like the ways in which the story moves into territories which really prompt imaginative work from Ben - wild colonies for an artist most at home in places yet unseen.

If you're reading this without having downloaded it, I demand that you rectify your hesitation immediately.
