It is possible to end up with a room where the primary background is 32-bit color and one of the extra backgrounds is 16-bit. This causes the latter background to display incorrectly. The editor should at least throw a warning on it; better behavior would be to change all extra backgrounds to the color depth of the primary, including when the primary is changed to another picture.
