Okay...
Yet another thread to make us to know you better  ;D

So, the question is:
"What's your favourite game?"

I think it would be GTA: Vice City or Doom 2...

Privateer Puddin'

Beyond Good and Evil or Monkey Island 2

Nacho

The LucasArts adventure game I could be playing at the moment and KOTOR.

the Twisted Metal series, Vigilante 8 series, and now the 3d GTAs have my interest.  I like going fast and all that.

ATVM it would be Gunman Chronicles, as I've been playing it for three nights in a row... but owerall favourite would be... I don't know... Doom (ultimate) & Doom ][ maybe... (I don't own lots of games, not the newer ones atleast...) Oh, and there is ofcource Tropico 2: Pirate Cove, very good one.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I made a topic what is your favorite game or something like that and it got locked right away.
HOW COME THIS ONE IS NOT?
Maybe people just think I am a jackalope?
It was an acciDENT he ran toward me and I hated him and I accidentally pullED OUT MY knife I had spent 5 hours sharpening.

Ishmael

I'll need to update my list... as I come to think of it, I like all the Dooms, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem 3D, Full Throttle, The Dig, Monkey Island (unfortunately I have only been able to play the first one), Unreal Tournament, Tropico 2, Age of Empires, Starcraft (and Broodwar, naturally), Half-Life, Gunman Chronicles, Settlers 3, Hexen, Hexen 2, Heretic and Quake 2 (played Quake a looong time ago too...) atleast... there's more, I just never remember them when needed...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Domino

I have another game to add to my favorite game list.

Disaster Report for the PS2.Ã,  It could be defined as a survival horror type game, and presents an amazing atmosphere. (even though the game has a terrible frame rate)

But i've played through it twice (there are multiple endings, and you get a score depending on how you do during the game) and i'm thinking about going for a third try.

For 20 dollars, you can't beat it.

Dart

After several minutes of contemplating what my favourite adventure game is, I finally have found it, and its name is...

Conquests of Longbow

The aforementioned game was the first game I ever played on the PC. Although I didn't understand the dialogue and storyline in it (I was 6 when I first played the game), I still loved it anyway. I continued playing until I eventually reached the part where you had to solve riddles from the old oak tree. There, I was stuck for two years, until I finally asked my teacher to solve the riddles for me.

I have since re-played the game three times. It's a shame this game is underrated, but maybe after this post some of you will consider downloading/buying it. You won't regret it.

Rincewind

Well, I think I'll go and do a tiny list meself, then...

Grim Fandango
Terranigma (Best goddamn Action/RPG ever! Download a SNES emulator and then this game! Kickass.)
Gabriel Knight 1
Discworld Noir

Kinoko

I think it'd be impossible for me to list one. I have plenty that fall into different catagories... but like others, I'll do a list.

NES - Goonies, Zelda 1
SNES - Breath of Fire II, Final Fantasy 4
Gamecube - Windwaker, Skies of Arcadia, Giftpia
N64 - Paper Mario
Dreamcast - Jet Set Radio, Cool Cool Toon
XBox - Jet Set Radio Future, Dead Or Alive 3
PC - MI 1, MI 2, Simon 2, Grim Fandango

I've probably forgotten some but I was extremely conservative with that list. I wanted to put hundreds more up ^_^

Bluke4x4

For PC: The original non-shooter Duke Nukem (when his last name was Dukum) currently playing
Commander Keen (Secret of the Oracle Commander Keen) finished. good game!
Space Quest 4. currently playing
For PS2
Dark Cloud 2. trying to find memory card to continue playing
For PS1 but used on PS2 because the PS1's broke
Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles. currently playing.
And that's about it.

Minimi

My favorite game ever is "Lazy Jones", from the MSX

and for the pc it would be "Fifa '99". All other fifa games suck, but 99 was fun. Played that a thousand times with my friend :)

GMG 06

GBA: Metroid Zero Mission
PS2: NHL 2004
N64: Ocarina of Time
Xbox: Halo
Gamecube: Super Smash bros. Melee
PC: Escape From Monkey Island or King's Quest VI

BOYD1981

right now my favourite game is Unreal Tournament 2004, whichs runs very VERY nicely on my new system (Athlon64 3400+, 1GB Ram, 256mb Sapphire Radeon 9800XT Atlantis) or atleast it will once it's working again, damn viruses...
apart from that i'd have a hard time choosing, i prefer having favourite games of a different genre instead of overall favourite, but if i were to take part in some kind of games version Desert Island Discs and had to choose 5 games i'd pick:
1. GTA2
2. Doom 2
3. Soul Reaver 2
4. Beneath A Steel Sky
5. Theme Park

Limey Lizard, Waste Wizard!

Well actually, MI1 but that's just obvious.  But seriously, Loom is without a doubt one of the most innovative adventure games EVER.  That's how i feel.  What, you wanna fight about it?

In terms of other genres, I'd say Civilization has been a consistent favorite since the original.  I liked Baldur's Gate a ton.  And...um...The Black Cauldron.  Sure it was a kid's game, but those dragons scared the shit out of me as a child.

It's a short one, but I love it just the same:

Loom

followed by all of Roger Wilco's adventures.
"We're your friends, we're not like the others."

Eggie

The Secret of Monkey Island
The Haunting
Freedom Force
Ghostmaster (like the haunting, but better. I wish I didn't have to round a friends house everytime I want to play it)
Day of the Tentacle

Einoo

My two most favorite AGS games (I don't like shooting stuff and I've not played any old adventure games :-[ ) are:

Rob Blanc 3
Perils of Poom

And to a lesser extent:
Rob Blanc 2
Apprentice
Two of a Kind
Al-Quest

Tiki

Day of the Tentacle!   Following that ... perhaps CMI?

Lazy Z

If I had to choose just one game, I would say Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

But I prefer top-5 lists, so I'll add these:

Shenmue 2
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Longest Journey
Virtua Fighter 4 (not Evolution, because I haven't played that for more than 30 minutes...)
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe. All mimsy were the borogroves and the mome raths outgrabe.'

Top-5 Games

Rosiedp

Without a doubt, my favorite game is OTHER WORLDS.  This game is soooooooo great.

Next I loved Leisure Suit Larry, Apprentice 1 and 2

Good games are here to stay.

Domino

I've had a change of heart and realized my favorite game off all time is now The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY.

I bought an Xbox last year just to play this game (i know it is on PC also, but i had my old computer at the time) and loved it.  Then i stopped playing it for awhile and then just recently started playing it again , and which i started over again.

I can't put into words how great this game is.

It's not hard to quess what my favourite is, if you look at my avatar.

Mine would prolly be Grim Fandango. DOTT and the later larry's, and perhaps CMI, were just a bit too Disney for me. And Disney pisses me off.
Oh yeah Escape from MI was just bad... I mean, no-one in that game had ever heard of Australia, yet all the voice actors spoke with Austrailian accents. What's up with that?2??2

DanClarke

My top 10 games:

1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Monkey Island 2
3. Final Fantasy 8
4. Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of time
5. Grim Fandango
6. The Curse OF Monkey Island
7. Day Of The Tentacle
8. Super Mario 64
9. Sam And Max
10. Tekken 3

I could go on all day with favourites, and will probably come back to change this at some point lol.

EMI was pretty lame all in all. Some nice bits here and there, but some really pathetic things in terms of design and planning:

-Wherever Elaine and Guybrush went on their Honeymoon, the people there must have been quite persuasive in their tones, because Elaine magically had her British accent replaced with an American one on return.

-Melee Island seems to have had a serious redesign. (for the worse.)

-3D. Why? It stripped the game of the personality that the previous 3 held so well.

- Monkey Kombat.

-Giant Robotic monkeys? ...no thanks.

Need i go on?

matt

Sensible World of Soccer '96-97. I've spent months on this.

Arboris

Diablo 2 with/without expansion, the game I played for years on the internet on 56k modem (oh the humanity when those phonebills came)

Domino

My favorite game(s) keep changing all of the time because i get bored with games after awhile.  One minute it's one game, the next minute it's another.

But i've gone back to playing GTA:San Andreas.  I bought Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube but got to a point where i figured there was no way i could get by it, so i gave up.  Damn, RE4 is no easy game.

I also want to go back and start playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 again.  This is a game i spent alot of time playing when i first got it, but of course got bored.  Then i started playing Mall Tycoon 2 and realized the game isn't much fun and also quit playing.

Let's just say that every game i get is my favorite for awhile until i get sick of it.

So, hopefully i will never have to post in this thread again to tell you which is my favorite game(s).

QFG 2 would be my favorite if it was easier to find the money changer in the beginning.  But I haad to cheat every time  :'(

For that reason, Quest for Glory 4 was the best one in my opinion

3. Some of the star wars jedi knight series.
4. Hitman I & II & III
But star trek doesn't run anymore cause I ruined the cd :'(

I didn't feel like reading through all nine pages of this thread, so I don't know how many times this has been said already, but GRIM FANDANGO is, I believe, the best adventure game of all time.  The music is endearing, the voice acting is spot on, and the characters are the most memorable of any game I've ever played.  It's really a masterpiece, and the colorful mexican take on the film noir style did more than just pay homage to it, it elevated it, they way Bladerunner or China Town did.  I think this is the one game really earned its way into my favorites, as I was old enough to really get it when I played it.  I go back and play, say, Final Fantasy 3, and the characters seem so wooden and the dialogue seems so stilted and poorly translated, but I go back and play Grim Fandango and I really get that same sort of enjoyment I got when I played it the first time.  No other game quite like it.

RPG:Fallout 1 and 2... I love these games. Great sense of style, addictive, best combat system for an RPG ever. Worthy mentions include Balder's Gate 1/2 and Arcanum.
SHOOTER (1st person): Deus Ex... while it has RPG elements, it still is at its heart a first person shooter, and remains the only FPS game (besides its dissapointing sequel) I've ever beaten without the use of cheats or at all. I usually enjoy FPSs to an extent, but get bored playing them after awhile. There has never been another FPS to match it, and with the way things are going, never will be.
Best action game of all time: Crusader: No Remorse... With the way its levels are put together, to the story, everything about this game is magic. From the very first moment I played it without even knowing the controls (It was on a computer at a now long defunct computer store), I was addicted. Worthy mention is its sequel, No Regret.
Simulator: Tie Fighter CD-ROM... Fun, and great to be able to fly the various Tie ships.

magintz

Hmm, probably best if I list mine per genre. I'll try to think and keep only 1 per category.

RPG - Chrono Trigger
Great game made for the SNES with a followup sequal called Chrono Cross, which I could never find to buy as it was only a US/Japanese release. Chrono Trigger basicaaly is a game about time travel and is a turn-based RPG. The story itself is amazing and will keep you gripped, and the characters have their own individual personalities as well which is good.

Other games worth a mention in this category: Star Wars - Knights of the Old Repulic, Baldur's Gate, Silver and Golden Sun.

FPS - Call of Duty
I know a lot of people will say "CoD, Really?, why not Half Life 2?" Well to be honest although Half-Life 2 and Counterstrike are good games, I just loved Call of Duty, both the single player and even more so the multiplayer. There were close seconds such as Unreal Tournament, but Call of Duty was about the first FPS I really got addicted to, I think I played it almost constantly one summer.

Other games worth a mention in this category: Counterstrike, Half Life 2, Unreal Tournament, Doom.

Sport - Virtua Tennis
Highly addictive game on the Dreamcast (I think it was also on PS2), I could sit and play for ages because it was so easy to play, yet challenging to beat opponents as you progresssed.

Other games worth a mention in this category: Need for Speed Underground

Fighting - Dragonball Z Budokai
I've played many game sin this genre including Street Fighter, Capcom Vs SNK and Soul Calibur, but I haven't really enjoyed any of them. Budokai was a mixture of nicely combined special moves, with cartoon graphics. Very fun and about the only game in this genre I like.

Other games worth a mention in this category: None

Adventure - Monkey Island 2
I could talk for hours about how this game got everything spot on, and why it is better than all the other Monkey Islands, and all the other adventure games. What I really liked about this was that it kept everything witty, had a unique story-line and was piratey. There was also the free roaming aspect of travelling to any of the three islands at will, kinda of like a early version of GTA gone Caribbean.

Other games worth a mention in this category: Beneath a Steel Sky, Sam and Max, Broken Sword and Grim Fandango.

Simulation - Rollercoaster Tycoon
This game was great, I've played things like RCT 2 and 3, but 1 was the best and most addictive for me. There were similar things such as Theme Park, but had very limited ride construction tools. I've also played many god sims such as Black and White and Settlers, but I enjoy building rollercoasters and RCT is the most fun I've had from any simulation game.

Other games worth a mention in this category: Settlers 3, Black and White, Theme Hospital and Sim City 4.

I believe the question was: "What's your favourite GAME?" (this would mean singular or one game.)  ;)

I would have to go with an old classic that started adventure gaming for me = Hero's Quest: So You Want to be a Hero, by Sierra On-line. (The EGA version!)

Yes, I'm an old man, 30 this November. And I love the classics!  ;D

Let's see now.

Bard's Tale 1
Imposible mission

I still play the first one, and about the second one, I just remembered how much I loved playing it when I found it in the Underdogs...

Well that's two, but what can you do, there are so many more.

magintz

I still think it's very hard to choose just ONE game, when all genre's are different. I like some games eqully, some more than others, but I doubt I could choose just one game to be my favourite, as depending on my mood I may choose something like Grand Theft Auto over Monkey Island.

At the moment my favourite game would be World of Warcraft, but then again it is about the only game I'm playing apart from the first Need for Speed Underground, which in itself is reasonably fun and I can just load up and play instantly.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

System shock 2.  (Again a fantastic story and a great rpg).

Quest for glory four... Not only did it add together the epic heroism of the Paladin, the strength and willpower of the Fighter, the Mastery of the Wizard, and the trickery of the thief, but combined some of the classic QFG 1 2 & 3 humor.  Plus the fight system was kickass, as each character with their own badass special power to use against the monsters.  (The thieves acrobatic attack, the paladin's sword and shield, the fighters axe  and the wizards huge ass spells)
(posted before by Lord_Nipper, who is also my account, but is unused because I forgot the password)

Well, my favourite adventure-games would be Toonstruck, Curse of Monkey Island, Romancing the Stones (the best AGS-game i,ve played so far) and Grim Fandango. As for the best action-adventure i played it has to be Redguard. Zelda 2 is also a favourite of mine (it has the best fighting system i have ever seen in a platformer). Oh, and Baldurs Gate is probably the best RPG i,ve played, (i usually don,t play those hardcore RPG,s except for adventure-RPG hybrids, but Baldurs gate is exceptionally good :)) Although i haven,t finished it.

Well, I think that was all. At least for now.....

Let's say three times three favourites...

Adventure games:

Non-adventure games:

Non-computer games:

  • GURPS
  • The Settlers of Catan

Other recent faves would be Mario Kart DS, Project Rub and Animal Crossing : Wild World. Far as I'm concerned, nobody seems to even come close to Ninty for producing fun, quality games by the cartload, especially in the last year or two.

HALF-LIFE 1 and 2 and thats it, no other games are ever needed after that.

You finish the game and you have a massive line of mods to play after,
in theory the little 50 or 60 euros yuo've just spend on them could easily give a playing experience worth 600 euro but for free.
E.g I finished HL2 back in november but i've still been playing it although i havent touched the plot since with mods like GMOD, Empires,Battlegrounds,Zombie Panic,
Brainbread,Sven coop, art of acension, weekday warrior (although its loaded with trojans),(LOL)troy divine playground, combine destiny,The Hidden,Natural selection,Sourceforts,Half life 2 substance and thats just half way down my installed list (actually a little less down).

Don't forget steams built in voice communication.

I rest my Case.
P.s they also provide the modding software free of charge with blistering fast download servers.

My new favorite game now, would have to be Zelda- Ocarina of Time. I had this game when 64 was popular, but I never finished it, because I found it difficult. Now, I have the thing on my GameCube, and it's been a pleasure kicking its arse!  ;D

For the time being, I'd probably say that Final Fantasy Origins and TES4:Oblivion has made their way into the top ten.
I really love the system in FF2 and Oblivion. The way you upgrade your character by actually training them and not just by receiving experience points makes you feel more proud of them. Even if they're just fictional. ;D

I loved Shenmue, a game that had severe faults (the voice actor for that woman who wanted to be a teacher sticks out in my mind), but really drew you into its world. Shenmue 3 with 1 and 2 included on the PC, that would be good...

I personally had issue with Tom.

My favourite game...

System Shock 2 or Deus Ex. Probably Deus Ex. Amazing characters and brilliant storytelling all round.

Red Alert?
Haha!
What a pus-

oh...
sorry, my evil twin personality i'm sharing my current body with just had a hissy fit... i apologise on his behalf.

Anyway, Red Alert is great, but i consider StarCraft the all-time best freakin game ever made...

I would also like to point out why (not like other smacktards - i juse love that word):
* Although it was not 3D, the sprites were excellently designed and fooled the first time i played it until i heard a little phrase from a hero who said: "I know it's not 3D!" and then I knew it wasn't 3D.
* Sound is excellent, great stereo effects.
* Voices are well suited to characters. And the lines they say are brilliant, just listen to this terran battlecruiser captain: "I really need to go... Number one?" or the terran vulture driver: "I don't have time to f*beep*ck arround!" or the terran goliath: "Checklist completed... SOB!". Brilliant I say!
* Portraits are animated for god's sake! And well fit the character.
* Music (from what i heard when i had the demo) is excellent and well in-tone with the game!
* The three races are perfectly balanced and completely original (even the terrans which are earth humans and should be predictable).
Consider all these traits were implemented on a game from 199 freakin 8!
Oh sure, there was the first 3D RTS game made in 1997, but it lacks that something that StarCraft defenetely has! (besides, the races were exactle the same).

Challenge me if you dare!
(smacktard... oh, damn personality!)

Damn, I LOVE StarCraft. It pisses me off that they never made StarCraft II or III. And they're taking forever on Ghost.
Damn good game, though.
The fediverse needs great indie game developers! Find me there!

And they're taking forever on Ghost.

They have a clever marketing strategy. The moment people complain about them taking too long, they post a picture of the heroine's ass - usually in her skintight suit, so they're droolign so much Blizzard get the heat off them.

My favourite game is The Dig.
Then comes Battlefield 2!

Ghost

Hmmm... I think I'll put down a little list...

Beyond Good And Evil
---------------------------
Never found a game where so many elements were welded together and still were more than the sum of its parts. And heck, it's living proof that a heroine doesn't need atomic bosom to look great.
And which other game has an "Uncle Pey'j", eh?

Zanzarah - The Hidden Portal
-------------------------------------
Yes, those who know it will shout "Pokemon clone",
but I like it. A lot.

Eets
-----
Plain fun, sheer gameplay, fun for casual gamers and
card-carrying Lemmings fans. Has an editor, too, and that
thing really eats my nights.

DOTT
------
Can't get enough of it.

sergiocornaga

Cave Story tied with Phoenix Wright.

If you haven't already, play both of these games immediately!

thewalrus

Well this is a difficult question. I really enjoyed Kings Quest VI.... But I dunno really what my favorite game of all time is. I've seen way too many games to decide. I was a kid in the age of the PC JR.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together!

Thewalrus

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!

"Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come!"

eddie hitler

monkey island 1 and 2, with emphasis on the second.
my favorite ags game is 5 days a stranger.
streets of rage 1 and 2 for mega drive, they kick arse.
broken sword 1 and 2, dott, sam and max, full throttle, bass, they all kick arse in their own, creamy soft way. that is all I can tink of at the mo, I might modify this post later.

Guybrush_Stobart

The best game ever has gotta be Discworld Noir. Great characters, great plot, great humour, great gameplay. Was just an awesome game.

#215
FALLOUT 1 AND 2, especially two.

Its more diverse than OBLIVION nad man thats diverse.

For example:
There are these 2 cities Vault city and GECKO
Vault city has all the wealth and there are no mutants, while Gecko is poor and full of mutants who get this sleep in a leaking nuclear power station.

Now I need to get into the nuclear fallout shelter of vault city to find out where I can get the GECK (a thing that will save my village from drought)

I can
-negotiate a peace agreement between the two by repairing the offending nuclear reactor
-kill everyone in Gecko to please the dreaded 1st citizen of vault city
-do the citizenship test and be allowed in
-sneak in and fight my way out and in or
-murder everyone in vault city and walk in.

I chose the last option since it was easy when I had MKII powered armour that could deflect a rapid fire shotgun blask and a car with over 50 kinds of weapons in it which i stole from a gun dealer in a gamling town further south.

A throughly enjoyable game with COMPLETE OPEN ENDNESS.

Buy the trillogy today because its only 14.99 euro for all the originals.

salomey5

I adored Banjo-Tooie, especially the Witchy World part! I got this fetish about abandoned amusement parks...!
Love your enemies... It's the best way to get on their nerves...!

JpGames

Final Fantasy X . The second place is for The Dig.

Fleshstalker

My all time favorite game is Grim Fandango.

Then followed by Psychonauts (Xbox version and not PC version because I perfer playing on my Xbox 360 controller - best controller ever)

Then these in no order:

Panzer Dragoon series (Sega Saturn) - Never played Saga, but I'm sure it would be the best game of Sega Saturn like many have claimed.
Otogi [Myth of Demons & Immortal Warriors] (Xbox)
Virtua Fighter series (Arcade/Sega Saturn/Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox 360)
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolfs (Dreamcast)
Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 (Nintendo Entertainment System)
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)
Shining Force [1, 2, & Sword of Hajya] (Sega Genesis/Game Gear) - Sadly never played the Sega Saturn version, but heard a lot from it.
SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighter's Clash [Capcom & SNK version] (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast)
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC/Xbox version - either way)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Xbox 360 version of course with the best controller)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Playstation/Xbox Live Arcade)
Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)
Phantasy Star 4 (Sega Genesis)
Phantasy Star (Sega Master System)
Final Fantasy 2 (Super Nintendo)

And last to just joke around...

1. Sneak King (Xbox/Xbox 360)
2. Pocket Bike Racer (Xbox/Xbox 360)
3. Big Bumpin (Xbox/Xbox 360)

The Burger King games rawked hard! For $4 bucks each, they were worth it! BEST $4 BUCK GAMES EVER!  ;D

Also, in a more mainstream vein: Quake, Quake III, Doom III.

Clock tower FF, 2/jp,2/stw,3
Kagero + Trapt
Oblivion
The Sims
Rule of Rose
Fatal Frame 2 and 3 (never got the chance to play no.1)

Haunting Ground/Demento
Kodelka
Final Fantasy 9 (cause it's the only one in the series that I could complete)

Domino

Vertigo, you have to play Silent Hill 2. That is the best one of the series. Silent Hill 4 is the yuck of the series. Silent Hill 1,2,3 are the best. I heard it through the grapevine that they are making a Silent Hill 5. Keeping my fingers crossed.

larino87

Hmmm.. my favorite game? It would have to be Monkey Island 2, I didn't much care for the first one but it was good enough for me to want to continue playing the series.
Now I'm your queen... bow down to my queenly queenliness
