October 18 - DEMO AVAILABLE
« on: 22 Mar 2005, 23:51 »
Im starting my very first ags game thats actually began taking shape ;D
The game is entitled October 18, and is about a Journalist called Paul Shields who works for the local paper in an american city, who is assigned to write a story about a bomb explosion in a goverment building. However, after finding a lead to who may have caused the attack, Paul ends up uncovering a major consipracy within the town that could put not just his city in danger, but the entire world. The game is rather dark and serious, with a plot based on the real world (in other words, no paranormal activity or such things).

The game is still in early stages but is definatly making progress.

Production stats:

Story: 80%
Graphics: 5%
Characters: 7%
Sound: 30%
Scripting: 40%

^^^ The above is a rough estimate. Because i dont have an exact idea on the length of the game its rather hard to predict how complete each area is (with the exception of story and characters)

Also my aplogies for not providing screenshots/stats first time round:P

NEW

created a little temporary website with some basic information on, and some of the charactors.

Also, the characters are all in need of somebody willing to do there voices. If anyone is interested Pm me or email me (my address is on the site, under the characters page). Im also offering anyone willing to do the voices the chance to rewrite there lines as they see fit (so long as they fit in with the story of course), this should give each character there own style of speech, aswell as accent and voice, hopefully making each character seem deeper (or at least not all identicle:P:)

Edit- yeah ok so i post about the new website an forget the link. wow I'm dumb.

After discovering the joys of paint shop pro, i decided to give my rooms a little makeover. I might have gone a bit over board though, but hey, beats the mono coloured textures i had before.... i hope.

my perspective is way off, im aware of that, but im havin some trouble with them so it could be awhile before i fix them.

oh, and the kitchen isnt quite finished, thats why the fridge has no doors:P

I love the name of this game.
I totally agree with Candle that the rooms looked better before the textures.

It looks good, and I like your homepage too, but I have a lot to horizontally scroll the page, beacause it doesn't fit to my browser window at 1024x768.

There's just one thing that bugs me. No outlines on speech fonts? Argh it's so hard to read the texts without them.

Anyway a nice looking game.  :) Just remember to use the outlines.

ill put outlines in, but hopefully it wont matter anyway because im putting voice overs in:) (if i find enough actors that is, if anyone wants a role as a main character check the characters page for the unassigned roles:P)

anyway, thanks for the feedback people, ill try to change it fix it up asap then hopefully i can get a demo done within a month or so:)

The demo is now available at
http://www.meridian-aotk.co.uk/October18-DEMO.ace

number of things to consider when playing this mind:

1) its not finished!!!
2) its my first ever AGS game
3) it was a little rushed towards the end
4) I never really had any help other than through advice.
5) I like 5, its a good number.

Feedback welcome

Neat little game you've got there, I haven't played much of it but for a first impression, it's pretty good. I like the city map and the graphics are well done. Keep it up!  ;D

I must say I truly loved the musics! Especially the main theme. And of course that 'nice easter egg in the living room' ;)

hehe thanks, glad u enjoyed it:P

just out of curiosity did anyone complete the demo? im a little worried that sum of the puzzles may not be very logical and be too difficult, or the complete oppsite and may be too easy. Because i made the puzzles, its kinda hard for me to tell:P
I kno there arnt many of them, but most the logic in this game will probably be similar to what iv done so far. Hope its ok else i can always change them

thanks again for the feedback so far everyone:)
