Theme song: Pre-School Peter
« on: 05 Apr 2005, 18:26 »
Right... Hi guys!

Well, I wrote this tune for the theme song of my game. The piece has a basic theme in it, then solo's and then goes back to the theme.
I realise that the quality is sketchy (I wrote it on my keyboard) and that there will be odd gaps in the music, but this is more to see if you guys like the melody or maybe have a better instrument in mind.

I tried to make the tune lively because the game is about a cheeky pre-school kid, just so you know.  ;)

Pre-School Peter

Go on... Listen... You know you want to!
Enjoy!  ;D

First of all: it's quite catchy - Nothing wrong with that.

Some suggestions though:
  • Maybe add some variation in melody? It tends to get a little bit repetitive (it sounds more like background music than a main theme).
  • Add some instruments (if you weren't already planning to do so).
  • Somehow I get the feeling at the 11-12 second something big should happen (melody wise, instrumental, etc.)

Otherwise, it sounds very promising. Keep it up! :)

ok, this is what i hate about critism on songs :p
the only thing they comment is:

"it sounds awfully familiar" or "it reminds me on something"

when people send songs created after anothere song with a bit tweek and people can't guess where it is from but do know it sounds familiar, that guy is good :)

anyway back on-topic

Jarek said all you needed to hear :) althought i think the main part is more instrumentals, i have heards MANY songs from many RPG (etc. Final Fantasy 7 & 8 and Tales of destiny 1 - 2) they have like 10 instrumentals (havent counted them yet :p) and all of them except one play the same routine over and over again (sometimes each instrument have 2 routines)

etc. beggining (calm) instrumental 2 - 4 with 1 leading
middle (getting very exciting) instrumental 4 - 6 and 3 with 1 leading using another routine

something like this can work :) i have noticed something like this very often in games, but they change from instrumental to instrumental that people can't notice :)

But i lopve the song :) keep up the good work :)

Cool guys, thanks for the crits.

Every single thing I post here apparently sounds familiar, but according to Goel that's a good thing so  ;D

I'm glad you like it! I actually think I might just use it for the background music as opposed to the theme (as a said earlier). I know it needs improvement, other instruments, MUCH better quality, etc. So I'll most definitely be working on those. I also really like the idea of a peak in the middle and then a calm down again. So, yeah! Thanks a lot!

And if anyone wants to tweak it a bit, you're more than welcome and I look forward to what you come up with.

Finally, I came up with this on my own, by myself and with my bare hands! As far as my conscious mind knows - this tune IS original!  ;)

Billy, dude, i think you should join laundromat. Seriously.

I loved that high solo in the +- 3rd quarter.

And don't let what zor said screw you over.  Don't let it ruin your friendship with zor (and just try to put up with his "quirks" - omnipotent, kissing feet etc. he's a good guy).

Hi Mist! So you liked it then - Awesome!
Don't worry dude, me and Zor are still good friends (As far as I know  ::)). Even though we all know what an insufferable moron he is on the outside - I'm sure there's a... less insufferable moron on the inside!
Glad you like it! Cheeeeers!  ;D

BTW: Come on people, POST! Is this the best you can do? You know you like the music... Go on... Tell me so that I can feel special.
