The Guitar Challenge
« on: 31 May 2005, 20:27 »
Well, I didn't feel right to post this in Competitions & Activities since I don't have permission, but this is a fun little game we can play.

It was brought to my attention that there are a lot of good guitarists here, so I thought it'd be cool to have a little competition.  Just for fun, not to say "He's better than he is" or anything.

So guitarists, here's your backing track:

http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelopers.com/backing%20track.mp3

FYI, the backing track is in A minor and the BPM is 120 just incase you want to sync it or something.

Have fun!

Awesome idea, I don't call myself a good guitar player ( although I am playing for a whole ten years now and four years in a band ), but I am sure to enter this one...

If this works out good, then let's make sure to keep this up!!!

I'm a fairly good guitarist, though I'm not really great at soloing. Though if I can find one of my guitars I'll be sure to give it a shot.

heh, that's some nice playing Eranan. I would participate but all i can play on guitar is nirvana, nothing special. Maybe youl could edit the rules a bit so that any instrument could be added to the backing track, then i could add a nice drum solo into the song :D

I haven't learnt to play the guitar. Just can play some simple chords. But I've given it a try, anyway.

Be sure to turn and flee.

cheers

I'm definatly going to do this. I wish I didn't leave my electric at school today. Oh well, tomorrow I'll enter.

I need to get a battery for my Boss ODB-3 bass overdrive pedal which is connected to the microphone port on my soundcard before I even considering entering this.

When I have the battery, I'll connect up the crappy and rusted fender squire strat cheapo knock off that I borrowed from my band's singer to it, tune it badly, crank up the volume, get wasted and pull off some poor imitation of Sonic Youth having a bad day.

I've been know to play an arpeggio or two.

EDIT:  Okay, so I recorded this with a built in mic on a computer, using Sound Recorder!  I'm so high tech.  I just grabbed an acoustic that was sitting around.

Great idea! I might have a go. I'm not the best solo person, especially at funky stuff like that, but if I find time, I shall give it a go.

Heh. Just wanted to do a little aside - I find it funny that in computer-related stuff people might "name their links" anything, and the good-ol' "hear and tremble at my Godness" is not uncommon... but know that people actually have to play, they've all turned modest and dismissive and link their stuff with "blarg", "turn and flee"... funny, that. Same thing happens when you do a bit of singing, I bet. But I bet you wouldn't if you'd used a MIDI program, or something.

If I get my new guitar before this ends, I'll see if I can record something... Playing with my current one might result some rather... interesting sounds...

But I bet you wouldn't if you'd used a MIDI program, or something.

I would.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

First.. Erenan - your guitar playing is great, you run through the pentatonic in such speed and it sounds so clean, i can't hear a single mistake! The only thing I don't really like is the sound, it's a bit too fat for my taste. However, how long do you play already?

Mh.. don't know what to say else, here's my try: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/GuitarChallenge_voodoolake.zip
I've used the same space Flippy offered me for the Music Competition, hope this is ok.

Yeah, I didn't even touch the EQ before I recorded it because I'm lazy like that. Also, my microphone is a piece of junk. But thanks for the compliment. :)

I've played for... um... nine years now.

Cool entries. Damn, I want to take part but I can't record with my computer for some reason. The audio device or whatever doesn't work. Maybe I can record at my friends place in the weekend. When does this thing end anyway?

Oh, I'm just putting this out there. When do you think it should end? I mean, if you want to turn this into a "real" contest in the Competitions & Activities, that'd be awesome! And we could probably not limit it to just guitar. The whole idea is playing over a backing track. In the future maybe more complicated chord progressions, too.
