Hi all,

I noticed recently that the forums are becoming unbearable to read. I do like most of the people here and value your opinions, maybe even like you. However, there're a lot of people, not even just newbies, who are making things really fucking juvenile and unpleasant.

Not mentioning any names, but for instance you might have a perfectly good thread and suddenly a few people will just start randomly going off topic and doing things like '*monkeypirate1919191 runs into a wall, gets up, runs off, omg lol!'. It's like some form of written slapstick comedy, and it's not funny. It's just annoying. It's not just that, there's a lot of generally stupid and pointless stuff.

Maybe the rest of you like that kind of thing, I don't know. But anyway, it's always good to discuss things. So let's discuss this. The level of intelligence is being dragged down.

I like that kind of stuff, sometimes, and only in certain cases were it would be really funny..but most of the time that kind of stuff just really gets annoying and throws other ppl off topic

I haven't really noticed anything of the type you mentioned, but I must admit that there are some people who in a way or another make this place less pleasureable to read, by either not caring to check their typing, phrasing, punctuation or such things, or just make pointless posts...

(btw. go me...)

This has frequently been true of the General Discussion forum, but the Critic's Lounge, Competitions and Activities, and technical forums seem to be staying on-topic fairly well.  Since the general forum is basically the cesspool of AGS interaction, it's hardly productive to expect anything more from it.

I will agree, however, that there are many less interesting threads that provoke discussion, debate, or introductions to new subject matter.  The number of "I like X, do you?" and "Name your favorite poodle breed" discussions has sky-rocketed in the last several months.  Perhaps people got burnt out by all the religious, morality, and political discussions that took over the General Discussion area for awhile.  For my part, if a thread seems pointless or uninteresting, I don't reply, I just wait for it to sink into obscurity.  It's taking far too damned long for some of them though.

Heh I'll expect it as possibly the effect of summer vacation, that some people has more free time (not me).
Didn't annoy me much actually (well I know I did make these kind of lame jokes some times too), and I'll expect that to be a periodic thing once every year.

I agree completely. And what ever happened to minimum posting? That seemed to work very well.

Don't get me wrong though, I love humor. But it's the DGMacphee sort of humor I like, and he hardly posts.

I guess I just miss the old days. The days of AGS Opera or m0ds's animated avatars. I loved the hand in the pants one. Most people probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

We were all going nuts with the big topic discussions a few months ago and got it all out of our systems, I think. Noone dares bring up another thread about religion or drugs.

Perhaps we can also take it as a sign that people are working on their games...

Probably not, though.

I think just because it's a general discussion forum, shouldn't mean idiots are allowed turn it into a cesspit of stupidity.

I makes me sad, there are a lot of very creative and intelligent people on these forums, being overshadowed by morons.

The people were saying that when you first started posting Yuf.

They were saying that before then.

And before then as well.

There hasn't really been any change at all.

And as you'd expect, the only person in this thread who's been ehre longer than me is saying much the same things.

July is a shitty month for all forums I think. Get the buggers back at work and at school.

I disagree, yuf.

I think the forums are a happy place to hang around  nowadays. Just because there are no intelectual flame wars doesn't mean that the looneys are running the forums.

I dont like DG 's posts. Don't get me wrong, DG, I love you. Lets get married. Have 2 and a half kinds, and a white picket fence. But your posts are usualy just pure hate.

ps. If this is about flukeblake, I must say that his attitude has compleatly changed in a very short time span.

I don't really mind the people Yuf is referring to.  I figure either they will wise up and stick around, or they will disappear and never be heard from again.  The people who really want to be accepted and recognized in a positive way usually come around sooner or later.

awww..thanks Jet. Yufster, all forums have their idiots. but, most of them get into a vigilante flame war with just about every forum member, then becomes a decent member. this is basically my story on the forums.

I also have to say, if you want some decent discussions on the forum, why don't you start one yourself? Can't wait around expecting everyone else to.

I'm not demanded decent discussions be started.

I'm suggesting that the ones that have been started aren't screwed up by a few select people.

July isn't a bad month for most forums. Because most forums wouldn't tolerate a lot of the idiots that hang around here. There is way too much tolerance.

flukeblake just because somebody else mentioned your name doesn't mean I was referring specifically to you by the way.

PS. DG's posts rule.

I can't say that I don't find this thread a bit ironic, but hey. Monkey boy in particular needs to wind down I agree, and if I had my way, flukeblake would be banned for a few months but otherwise, it seems like business as usual around here.

Maybe it's your perception that has shifted, Yufster.

From what I gather, Helm, if you had your way these forums would be empty except for a handful of people. ::)

Yes this thread is quite ironic  ;D

Like the self help guides for n00bs written by Monkey_06_05. Why did nobody tell that thread to fuck off?!?

The main thing that annoys me I guess is that it's two or three people that are doing it, and if they were dealt with then everything would be awesome around here. But they're not being dealt with, they're being tolerated and in the meantime are acting like jerks.

Actually, Andail did. Not in so many ways, accourse.

And Yufster? I understand your point about tolerating (and at times maybe encouraging) some things, and I agree, but... I don't know. I myself have been guilty of that at times, to do otherwise just seemed too "rude", or something. Maybe this accounts for something? Maybe we're all trying too hard to make the forums agreeable and pleasant to all and instead promote anarchy?

I'm just extrapolating, mind, because I myself don't see that much is wrong at the mo, same as Helmet up there.
