I'm currently bashing my head on the next step...

...getting a key into that room to unlock that door. I've even tried turning one of the cursors into a key, but that just left me unable to click out the inevitable error messages. I've also getting around it with the debug mode, but I guess that won't work successfully until later in the game.

What I love best about this is that, even though it's a hints and tips thread, even though the question has been asked, you're discussing the better solution and not telling. ::)

Be subtle then. :P Nudge in the right direction. Tell me, should I be thinking in terms of what? Debug, characters, outside the box...

I've got the same problem as Gilbot. Time to reveal the solution, don't you think?

Spoiler
Is being a fire a way to avoid burning? I mean, in the first room, if you save, then touch the fire, then reload, the char changes into a walking fire. Is that a feature, or a bug? (since the game crashes when you walk to certain parts of the screen). Anyway, even in flame-form the char seem to die when using ctrl-s.

I have tried clicking debug in general settings but it doesn't make any difference. I've tried extinguishing the fire but when I go to test game the fire is still there in the first scene ?  How do you change settings to carry something?

Ah clever.

Jane:

Spoiler

From AGS manual:
1. The Debug() command

There is a scripting command, Debug, which you can use in your script to help you find problems. The default setup enables some hotkeys for the various features - in particular, Ctrl+X allows you to teleport to another room, Ctrl+A shows the walkable areas on the screen and Ctrl+S gives you all the inventory items.

The metaquestions! I first thought there was a way to bypass them (and maybe there is, actually) but then I made some researches (thanks to KQVGA, which I supposed to be theremake of the first Sierra Game), and answered the first question. The second was a very smart one (congrats, Radiant). But then the third! Maybe due to my bad knowing of english, maybe even due to the typos, I'm not even sure I've understood it!
I think it asks the flying speed of a bird (the swallow). But in km/h, or mph? And, do I have to write just the number, or even km/h / mph?
Anyway I tried the natural numbers between 0 and 160, and every number ending with 5 and 0, till 300 (I thought the speed couldn't be too precise). Where have I screwed off?

Hehe I had thought of that to try, but I thought it would be too tricky to use that as:
1. The exact reading can differ by +- 1Kb when you check it using different version of OS and/or commands.
2. If there's a new version of a game and be re-compiled the answer might need to change.
Got it sorted anyway, thanks!

Without google I was never going to finish the game (and thanks to you, Raidatn (sorry, Radiant), especially for making me burn my fingers typing all that unuseful numbers!!!!!).

That's interesting... it is possible that you have a virus on your computer that attaches itself to executables, thereby increasing their size.
My version is 9308583 bytes, thus the answer would be either 9090 (X/1024) or 9308 (X/1000; both are acceptable).

I can't complete the game due to an error.  After using the "stuff pockets" debug command, trying to open the inventory causes the game to crash.  ACTUALLY crash, not something that's programmed in. I get this:
Was the game upgraded to version 3.3.0, or you are using newer engine to run it?
I recall there was a bug which caused old-style built-in inventory to crash, which was fixed in AGS 3.3.2, according to changelog. Try using latest version of the engine to run it.

The bug has been noted, I'll see what I can do. And yes, META runs in 3.3.0.1162

A new version has been released to fix this: https://radiant.itch.io/meta
