I grew up having night terrors, and later something similar to what you seem to be experiencing. How old are you? Maybe you don't want to say, but as LGM mentions, younger people tend to have all out night terrors...and from what you describe, that doesn't sound like one. Night terrors, at least in my experience, are extremely frightening, and you don't really remember much once its over. You also, or at least I, would walk around, run, hit things/people. All kinds of stuff.
Later, when i was in high school, I'd sometimes wake up from a nap feeling extremely apprehensive...and felt like I couldn't move. It would last for only a few minutes, but it wasn't fun. I've had people (and my former neurologist) decribe them as auras...sort of the experience and symptoms you get before having a seizure:

If you can, I'd think about going to see a neurologist.
