This Scares Me lol
« on: 05 Jul 2006, 01:39 »
No seriously, I don't know what it is but for the past few months I have had strange things happen to me in my room, and only when I am in my room. I'll go to sleep, but while in my dream state I will open my eyes (a friend of mine was also in the room when one of these things happened) I can see everything quite clearly, so I know it is not a dream, I cannot move I feel trapped. But I can start to see things while in this state that actually effect the room (like I seen things coming through the walls that scared the livin' crap out of me)

Do any of you know what this could be?

Yeah no, it's just weird except Im into the supernatural stuff, no but things get affected in the real world around it, so it's like awesome and strange.

I've actually heard of this.  I saw some documentary on it a long time ago.  Apparently it's not harmful to you (except that it's pretty scary).  I don't know much about it, but I'd suggest seeing a doctor (or maybe a hypnotherapist, heh).  Anyway, the documentary I watched was a long time ago, but I vaguely remember the name as "sleep paralysis", as well as hypnagogia.

Interesting stuff.

like woah that is like so awesome. Now I guess you could say that is what I am experiencing, however most of the symptoms there I do not experience, and the reason it is hard for me to believe that it isn't real is that things can actually be affected.

I am also someone that has deja vu daily, like 2-3 times a day, and I seem to get people things that they claim that they didn't ask for but they wanted at that time. I experience alot of weird things so I am not sure when ever I encounter something new.

I'm an insomniac and weird things do happen.  I used to sleep walk (and talk) regularly- but as I got older these problems have all but faded away.  Relax- do yoga or some form of meditation before going to sleep.

And - search the CoasttoCoastam.com site!

Sounds to me like your brain is hyper-developed. I wish I could experience half the stuff you mentioned.

I grew up having night terrors, and later something similar to what you seem to be experiencing.  How old are you?  Maybe you don't want to say, but as LGM mentions, younger people tend to have all out night terrors...and from what you describe, that doesn't sound like one.  Night terrors, at least in my experience, are extremely frightening, and you don't really remember much once its over.  You also, or at least  I, would walk around, run, hit things/people.  All kinds of stuff.

Later, when i was in high school, I'd sometimes wake up from a nap feeling extremely apprehensive...and felt like I couldn't move.  It would last for only a few minutes, but it wasn't fun.  I've had people (and my former neurologist) decribe them as auras...sort of the experience and symptoms you get before having a seizure:

http://www.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/tm6354.asp

That description actually sounds closer to what you're having.  I'm no doctor, but maybe you have some type of seizure disorder or epilepsy.  Epilepsy comes in all kinds of ways, you don't have to have grand mal seizures to have it.

If you can, I'd think about going to see a neurologist.

Hmm, I think I get night terror very rarely, though its not like that.  I wake and things are wierd in my room, nothing unusual like you said, no hallucenations or stuff, just an immense sense of helplessness and difficulty getting back to sleep.  I usually stay awake and read for a bit.  But its very horrible.  Unlike the description on Wikipedia, I don't get scared by voices from other rooms during this, I feel comforted, and it goes away.
I do actually believe there is something else about my house though.  Strange shit happens in it, nothing major, just, strange.
Some of it inspired the darksiders, especially that scary ass picture in the dining room (I had to sleep in there once when I was little and it freaked me out insanely.  It still does, its a picture of my ancestor, but in typical Victorian fashion, the glare just looks empty and souless.  Nasty :P

Sex helps you sleep... for example, ever since I had kids I've been so darn knackered all the time that despite drinking gallons of coffee a day I still fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow and sleep dreamlessly until the kids wake up...

Night Terrors aren't so age-sensitive.  I have a friend who is 23 years old and she still gets them regularly unless someone she knows well is in the room sleeping with her.

At least.. that's what she told me.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

It's not that adults don't get night terrors, it's just that children are more prone to them and children that have them also often grow out of them.  This happened both with myself and my father.

Strange, I've never even heard about night terrors. I've never experienced one, nor has any of my close ones. Seems like a common problem.

It could very well be epilepsy, you should meet a neurologist

It's not a common problem at all, actually.  When I was a kid, they really didn't know much about it.  I read on wikipedia that 3% of children have them, but that number seems quite high to me.
