Knollware T++ Builder...
« on: 13 Feb 2007, 17:55 »
...or, in other words, a "paintover" of the Borland C++ Builder! This time, I didn't take the "Securipedia Approach", but tried to create something more... fitting to my general style from the beginning on.

Still, I'm not quite... satisfied with it  :-\ It's probably the white background, but I'd rather not change it to black...

Is this for _Access?
If so, I think it should share the font and border styles of Securipedia.
If not, we'd really need to know what it was for before commenting, although having said that, here's some blind commentary anyway.

It's very confusing (this could be deliberate).
The icon style with black lines on a dark blue background are hard to make out.
It's also hard to see that there are tabs at the top right.
The Ncoder box doesn't fit in with the rest.

Jup, this is for _Access. And the Encoder box doesn't fit in because it's the "project in edit"... should I probably make that a bit clearer?

I brightened most things up a little.

Do all these buttons actually have functionality? If not, I think the interface should be redesigned and cut down a bit. There's nothing worse than an interface where some controls are just for show. Plus, it would make things more transparent for people who never used the Borland C++ Builder.

Actually, only "Help database", "About", and "Quit" feature functionality (and clicking on the Ncoder box buttons to see what they do, of course)... I just wanted it to look like a programming suit, not to program one myself. The other buttons are just for show, to increase imemrsion. Also, players won't actually have a reason to mess around with them.

I'd rather stick with the shades-of-blue color scheme...

Haddas's edit makes use of the fact that you can use other colours to complement the blue. I like what he's done, and I'd strongly suggest incorporating elements of what he suggests.

He can use purple and brown since he used a less saturated blue (which would also be an idea) but you could find shades of your own that complement the brighter blues in your original.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Although I like Haddas's edit quite a bit, you didn't seem to take to it, so I've taken a crack at this...I'm not entirely satisfied with this edit, but hopefully it will give you some ideas how you can modify this:

The main thing that I didn't like was the Ncoder box taking over the image. It didn't really fit the style at all. Other than that, I fixed the "Global Project Properties" box to be consistent with the other parts of the image (the black background part needed to be bigger), and I also changed the tabs at the top to a more square shape to fit the style of the rest of the "interface".

Other than that I just had some personal issues with the colors, but you can do as you'd like with that. ;)
By and large I didn't accomplish what I set out to do, but I did accomplish a fair bit. So, there is that.

Wow, that's quite nice. I'll probably re-recolor  := some parts of it, but it *does* give me a good basis to continue working on. Thank you!
