In retrospect, still don't know why that was the combination.

The buttons represent the regions of the kingdom. In the book Geographica Arcanum behind the desk on the left side is a picture on page 3. It says:

Quote
The five geographic regions of the Hidden Kingdom are represented on the great seal of the Dragon King. At the top sits a crown symbolizing the city of Draconum, seat of the Dragon King. Below this are seen ears of corn representing the Fertile Plain and a gemstone which stands for the Pyronium Mines. The lower two segments depict the Great Desert (a sand snake) and the Savage Mountains (an eagle).

Now push the buttons in the order you've visited the regions.

In chapter 7 other than the cloak what else do I need that I might be missing? It seems like there isn't much to do in chapter 7 and I know there must be more.

I'm stuck in chapter 6 - I have got key from clock and gone through door back to waterfalls - but just go round in circles - do I have to go that way or back through caves to find exit to chapter 7, also I have mirror and oilcan - do I need anything else to continue with game?[\hide]

I'm stuck in the same place. I have turned off the water to the clock. Does the clock have to be set to a certain hour? I have a handle, notebook, oil can, stonec& mirror.

yes the clock has to be set at a certain time to get key - I set it to the same time as the roman numerals on the doorpost [\hide]

Jane,
you have to turn off the water to the clock
Jane and themom,
that stops the clock. So why did you want to stop the clock?
Stopping the clock stops the pendulum
Did you notice that there's a way out behind the pendulum? Did you try it and get killed? Now you won't!

In chapter 4...
How do I change the gates? I've done absolutely nothing productive since I started this level, and I do have the crank. I've been to the map room and to the top of the cliff, but can't find a way to change the gates.

How do I change the gates?

Use the crank on the wooden bars on the left or right of the gate. Holding the crack, the cursor should change there.

In the walkthrough it tells me to go south from the guard room and take a left from the center of waterworks.  No  left turn available.

You're right. It should be right. Walkthrough has been updated. (It's the viewers right, it's Jack's left ...  :P)
Thanks for the correction.

For the triple maze, making only right turns got me through the consecutive levels without getting lost. Otherwise it was a pain in the butt. FYI. Nice game Elen.

I think I am dense or somehing. I know I need to use wrench on gates in chapter 4, but I still can't get over to the other side. Could someone help me please because I love this game and I want to get to chapter 5!

the oil can is in the pile of the junk at the bottom of the screen and almost opposite and a bit left to the entrance where you came into the room for the first time.

What room are you talking about? I entered the room that was barred before and that opened for me after the bell rang. Its next to the door with the keep out sign in red on it. When I enter this door there is no pile of junk but only a heap of rocks that he says, "here are more of those rocks." I am confused.

Oops.
I thought that you already reached the room with the clock. There are more doors, and they open and close at different times. After the first door opens, you have to find other, locked doors and wait until they open. Do you need a map?

Well, I hate to say it, but I've given up on this game.  While it is beautiful, I have been trying to get through the triple maze for three days now, and nothing.  i tried following the walkthrough I found, but to no avail.  The stone makes no sense.  I'm done.  I never give up on games, but this maze stuff has gotten really old.  Sorry Elen.  You made a pretty game, but the puzzles are just too frustrating for me!
