Anarchy On Mars
A not so serious 2D-Sidescroller
No, you don't have to fight Anarchy on Mars. In fact, you have to
defend Anarchy on Mars.
In the year 2281 - when capitalism was at its climax, spreading war, hatred and poverty throughout the Earth while a small clique of privileged people pulled the strings and lived like kings, when the wealth gap made the Mariana Trench look ridiculous, when the last living animals were those who end up on a kitchen table and the last standing trees were located in the former indian's reservations, after the very last of those committed suicide - a ship was built, designed to start a colony on Mars. It could carry thousands of people, food for a year and devices to built up autarc hydroponic farms in a hostile environment. In the minds of the imperialists a perfect way to forget about wasting a whole planet...
... but after years of training and preparation a group of several thousand people managed to squat the shipyard and take over control of the "NF1"(New Frontiers 1) as well as few dozen fighters. They started their voyage to Mars and after a few skirmishs with some of Earth's patrol ships they managed to land on Mars and start a colony. They built up an anarchistic society free of war, poverty, hatred and racism while slowly and stepwise making the Mars environment more habitable.
...unfortunately, the few left megalomaniac governments on Earth couldn't stand that "a few chaotic slobs" (War Minister Johnson) destroyed their plans and stole their showpiece as well as lots of their equipment and weapons.
...in 2307 you, April, stealthily visited Earth again to meet some friends (who decided to stay and dream of changing the planet to the better) and check out the current situation. Your fear that Earth is going to start a war has become true and now it's up to you to get back to Mars and warn your fellow folks of the easily superior army from Earth.
...now it's time to defend your peaceful way of life - WITH FIREPOWER.

Trivia:
- This is already the third version of the game. I made the first one in VGA with Turbo Pascal back in ~ 2000 and lost it due to formatting my hard disc, and a second one in hi-res in 2006 but the graphic unit I used had some problems and I put the project away again. Now it was time to do something with it again.
