edit: the number of people who nominated was 55, which left me quite disappointed.

I've voted and tweeted, it would be nice if there was a big turnout, you've done a great job so far...

Well, the number of people who nominated last year was 90+, that's why I was a bit impressed by 2009's numbers. Having said that, I feel that the in-forum advertising, me spamming these awards in some others forums (like AG and TIG) and the hype of the IRC ceremony could boost the 2nd phase votes!

My method of getting more nominees was bugging people in PMs, IRC, Tokbox, Stickam, etc. until they gave in or deserted the forums forever.

I'll send you the comprimising photos that I used to blackmail people in to voting, if that helps.

Are the nominees all pre-decided?
I'm asking this only because there seems to be only a few in the same category over and over, namely McCarthy, Shifter's Box and Marionette, which I seem to see over and over again; best game, best character, best story etc.

Well, the games are surely a cut above the rest, but it's almost like dominance. :o

There was an open nomination phase a short time ago.  Members voted for which games to nominate in each category.  All games released in 2009 were eligible, and the games with the most nominations were entered into the final voting.

If you don't like the fact that McCarthy, Shifter's and Marionette were nominated for so many, feel free to vote for my two games which are in the running.  Murran Chronicles 2 and Mr. Danger's Contest   *Shameless Plug*  :)

Feel free to vote for an underdog, if you think they're better in that certrain category than the multinominated games.

...perhaps in the puzzle category *joining poc in the 'shameless plug-club' *

It is puzzling. That's for sure. Why everything actually finished within a calendar year isn't just added to an automated voting system I guess we will never know.

Maybe whoever organises it grew up in a soviet bloc country, so they think that is how democracy and voting are meant to work.

...

It isn't, by the way.

The nominations process is just like voting.  The more nominations that game receives, it puts it in the top 5 nominated games list and then it's up to the final vote to break the draw.

If you didn't nominate any games, then it's definitely your loss, and that particular game's loss for not getting that game into the final vote. :P

Only 55 people joined in on the nominating, so don't expect much variety.

Nominations are one thing.  I am hoping more people vote in the actual contest.  I think the bolded red text at the top of the forums help drive the point across :)  I think that was a great idea to promote it.

Goldfish, if it is your ambition to just start arguments all over the AGS forum (and then write about it in your blog) I suggest you think again.

Taking a quick look at your posting history, the majority of what you write is just complaints and insults.
If you really think you're making valid points, at least consider expressing yourself more politely.

Don't get this the wrong way or anything Goldfish, but as I said on another part of the forums, you do give a feel you're a little aggressive/hostile. It would be wise to use smileys (but don't overdo it), to set the mood of your sentences. ;)

And then to drive the point home that you're a nice guy, vote for my games.

Thank you :)

I think he IS being hostile.. I'm not usually a confrontational person but frankly he can take a long walk off a short pier...

I quote Ryan's message since it's very clear. If I'll host again, I think I'll ask CJ for forum advertising in the nomination phase too.

I totally agree.  I've always been curious why the voting was advertised as it is now, but the nominations weren't.

Also a deadline on the notification could be nice.  I haven't voted yet, but definitely will.  I just haven't played Marionette, TGP!, and a few others.  If I don't get around to it near the final days, I'll just vote for the ones I've played anyway (just like I did with the nominations).  :P

I think bici did a fine job. Only 1 person seems to believe the contrary.

I'm thankful for bicis effort and curious about the results of the voting.
But I want to dig up a question, that hasn't been answered yet (or I missed it)
I wonder why the users can't choose the best innovation?

Hey Littlenate! I was really impressed with the demo of Little Dreamer and hope you'll make a full-blown game out of it. We're competing in the same category, but nevertheless I wish you good luck.
