Author Topic: Tune contest 9/5 - 28/5: Your favourite gamesong. (Winner announced)  (Read 912 times)  Share

All right then! My idea was for you to cover/remake your favourite game song. Any genre/tempo/instruments is accepted. Please make sure that you put the game name in this thread so people easily can look up the original version on youtube or whatever if they want to compare the songs.

Don't be afraid to add your own flavor to the songs as well. Remaking a song doing the exact same melody and sounds is a little boring in my opinion. It's ok to do it but I advice against it.
Comp ends 27/5
Good luck and have fun!

Well, I wanted to wait more for this, but here's my entry:

* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJrLNmXjpgA

It's part of a medley I'm doing of the music from Sunsoft's 1989 Batman for the NES. This first part isn't all that imaginative, but hey, I haven't entered with anything in a long time and I'm going to be very busy with exams and crap so I thought why not enter now since I've got something?

Cheers!

Heeey, this is right up my alley. I'm gonna post a couple since this is the first time the contest has meshed with my own interests so strongly, but just assume the first one I post is my actual entry.

Besaid Island from FFX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxJE6SSX-aw
My arrangement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3g591tLJ6c

Or if that was a little too abstract

The Ballad of Freddy Pharkas from Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRSUoN6Jdt0
My arrangement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElAKtkQDQI8&hd=1

So those were two that I think give an idea of the style I play in...though if I were to have to choose my FAVORITE game song it would have to be this one

Star Light Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mqmN6mw4R8
My arrangement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otBqOkdsl0Q

Great stuff Kabukibear. I really love the Freddy Pharkas song. You did a very very good job with all songs though :D

Kabukibear, that rendition of the Freddy Pharkas theme is awesome :D Good work :)

I'll try to enter, but every theme from a game I like is too hard to cover ;D

I know I probably won't win, but I liked the idea behind the competition and really wanted to do it for fun. Originally I tried to remake Breath of Fire 3's battle theme but it ended up sounding...somber.

And *then* I realized
All right then! My idea was for you to cover/remake your favourite game song. Any genre/tempo/instruments is accepted.--

So here's my vocal cover of Hymn of Fayth from Final fantasy 10

And here's one version of the original:

I probably could've done so much more with it, but decided to keep it simple

Damn, still not finished. I really don't want to ask for extension again. hopefully I can get it finished before the ending of next day...  :(

I only now realized that the very simple piece of music I selected was actually, if not extremely hard but very time consuming.

Damn... my usual luck... Suddenly I had a non-planned visiting in this weekend and so I wasn't at home and I wasn't able to finish the song in friday, nor saturday. Going home today and can finish the song for monday... I'll post it nevertheless will it be valid for competition or not.   :(

Well, I don't want to extend this anymore and my vote goes to Kabukibear. I think you nailed it pretty hard with that Freddy Pharkas song! :D

Woo woo! Thanks! I won't be able to run the next tune contest so if anyone wants to step to the plate by all means.
