Author Topic: [WINNER INSIDE]Coloring Ball: Polyframe [ends April 22]  (Read 780 times)  Share

I would like to take the Coloring Ball back to its original rules;

* Colouring Ball: You get a basic sprite outline, and it's yours to colour and improve. Sometimes a theme is given. The thread starter elects a winner, who gets to initiate the next round, and provide the start-sprite.

Specifically, I mean to remove the voting period. It's good for some contests but I feel that in the case of the Coloring Ball that a voting period detracts from the point of the competition.
The point of a voting period would be to declare a more fair winner, rather than the host appointing one. That in itself does have some value but the Coloring ball isn't about who wins, or whether or not that was fair. It would be about making things for it's own sake.
The voting period also removes active competition time, I personally enjoyed always having a Coloring Ball around.

(It would be nice to hear some opinions on this, even though it will dilute the thread somewhat)

So this time, I will select the winner after this Coloring Ball ends on April 22nd.

Without further ado, here's the new Coloring Ball;

Polyframe

theme: nothing
(not literally nothing, there is no theme)

Not that my opinion counts for much, but I approve of the change. It speeds things up a bit and keeps the colouring ball rolling (.....I can't believe I typed that.)

Maybe call it as hosts choice (vote or no vote)?

Maybe call it as hosts choice (vote or no vote)?

I think that would ultimately end up with further confusion. If someone new to the contest ends up winning, not knowing much of it's history then they are likely to mimic the current structure/ruleset. I think a line in the sand as far as voting or not, is important.

I say go for it as you prefer it!
You are the host, so it's your decision ;)

Not sure if anyone will recognize this. I verified two things while working on it:

1. My reach, as usual, exceeded my grasp, and
2. I still stink at pixel art.

The three very bad people from Superman 2 (or 3)? If I recognized that correctly, you clearly do not stink at pixel art!

I'm also fine with removing the voting period. The host decides, that's absolutely okay and never really caused any trouble in the past.

One month ago there were rumors that would be another Blur album. Now Damon Albarn said that Blur won't exist anymore after the concert in London this year. And I thought it really (really really) could happen again.

Now I'm seeing it everywhere I look - my favorite album. Yesterday amazon recomended it to me - ain't it cynical?

Well, now you're seeing it too, just less pretty, because I suck at pixelart.

Hooray! I'm not completely horrible!

Oh, thanks. I found a preview on youtube, and although I like the thought of the minimalistic noise and improvised riffs, I don't feel the magic of his last four albums. But Ooh yeah yeah ist just too good a song, so I thing I'll get the album.

As for removing the voting period:  good decision.

I don't want to sidetrack this topic too much, but that's disappointing. I haven't listened to this one yet, but his last album was stellar, and I was looking forward to more in that vein.

I appreciate you saying so, but I think every single entry was better than mine! Won't stop me from entering your new contest though!
