Editing Files To Work on Macs
« on: 08 Oct 2012, 22:23 »
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this... feel free to ship me off to somewhere else if that's the case...  :-[

Anyway, I was wondering if there was any way to change the .exe file AGS give you to work on a Mac without having to use a program like the one found here. (Though it does run the game, the sound doesn't work properly and the framerate suffers greatly). If there is any way to just make a file that can be downloaded and run immediately on Macs, could someone inform me how to do such?

Thanks in advance!

The engine from https://github.com/adventuregamestudio/ags should work better, but unfortunately only up to Mac OS X 10.6.

I'm really sorry to sound uninformed, but, what exactly do I do with the link you provided? Is there a file I need to download?

Sorry about the hassle...

Ok, I just wanted to say what exists first. If you consider providing a game for Mac OS X, that will not work on the most recent versions 10.7 and 10.8, an option, read on.
There's a source code repository where you can get the code, compile it and bundle that with your game. Nobody has ever written down how to do that, so you must wait until someone explains it here if you want to do it. I don't know how to do it.

For some reason I thought there's OSX port topic on forums, but I can't see it. Was there one? Was JJS working on that? What's the port status?
I don't know myself. Probably JJS could explain better.

E: Ah, I was mistaken, that was original Sonneveld's one topic I was looking for. Well, I have no idea if anyone else ever worked on OSX version then.

Sure, just change the ending from *.exe to *.mac!

j/k

That would be REALLY great though, since that would completely eliminate the need to port games to mac. Unfortunately, even though Macs use Intel processors now, there's no way you can run a Win32 executable directly on a mac without a virtual machine or installing Windows on it via Boot Camp.

Well, the reason I asked is because I just played an AGS game on my Macbook by simply downloading/opening a file so I figured there was a way to port games onto Mac, though it seems this may be a bit beyond my technical skill level...  :-\
