Author Topic: Don't cancel The Carnival of Monkey Island: just call it something else  (Read 611 times)  Share

Let's make up our own corner in the MI universe and build it there, independent from all existing MI stuff but following the same style.

For example, a silly dystopian idea I thought of in 5 minutes: What if Guybrush had destroyed LeChuck at the end of MI1 and died in the fight? LeChuck is dead, but the army of dead pirates still goes on plundering. Deep in the jungle of zombie pirate-controlled Swash Island, Maxilo McBeezer has found a way to destile rhum that lets switch his sight between the human world nad the zombie world, at a cost of an enormous headache. Our protagonist, the grandson of a pirate, yearns for the stories of his grandfather and wants to bring back the old days of pirating, but now that's impossible with all these zombie ships burning and plundering. His grandfather used to have a nautical compass that would come in handy, but it was lost during one of the zombie plunderings, most likely taken away by the zombies. He hears of Maxilo and goes to him for help, but he's since disappeared. Later, Maxilo turns out to be a zombie himself who is too lazy for the plundering. Etc...

I'm sure we can come up with a great idea to build a MI-like game. There's great minds in here. Let's brainstorm!

How about just renaming the project "The Carnival" and none of the characters refer to eachother by name?  :-D

EDIT: Or just work on the project in secret, release the game by sending it to sites that don't care, email or p2p. The authors could do it anonymously, deny involvement if they're that concerned. (Wishful thinking.....I really wanted to play the game LOL).

Like they did with Picaroon. I assume they had to change some other stuff than the title. But when the whole story is original, even when having existing characters and back story, it's relatively easy to modify it to be some generic pirate based adventure game that just references or parodies the story it was originally based on.

Yeah, that would be great. And then just release it anonymously so nobody would get to any trouble. But... Some people really get their motivation from the fact that other people are supporting them to do it and also from the fact that when it is ready they will be recognized from the great work they did.
