Yep you do. Use the book on the bookshelf that constitutes a separate hotspot. It's on the left edge of the bookshelf.

I can't find any hotspot on the skeleton. Neither game fires clicks on the skeleton nor it allows any objects to be used. A bug, maybe?

The puzzle where we put 4 items under a "Descending" sign. What should they descend for? Number of vertices? It didn't work.

Yes, it actually is the number of vertices. With circle counting as 0 and the moon counting as 2.

I were also stuck in MI because of that puzzle; I figured it out reading it here. To Gord10 and anyone else, here is the complete solution:

Shapes have to be placed in the descending order in terms of Vertices. Square has 4, Triangle has 3, Crescent has 2 (never knew before reading here) and Circle has 1 or 0 vertice (not sure, though). Now, you very well know what to do next .
