I'm afraid the relief puzzle has beaten me, try as I might I can't hit the hotspots in time. I can only hear the first click and nothing else despite trying Jojo's suggestion. I know it's me but I don't like arcade games, ( how sad I hear you cry ) and for me this has ruined a great game that I was thoroughly enjoying.

I'm with you, Tinytim! Same here...

Hi guys,

To beat the relief puzzle:

Add spoiler tag for Hidden:
look closely at the relief. note that certain areas are worn, as if they have been touched often. most importantly, make sure you have the game set at default speed, anything more and it will be nigh on impossible. click the middle hand (there will be a louder sound here), then you have 10 seconds to click on the remaining areas before the mechanism resets itself. The puzzle is designed to be tricky, but not impossible. Im sorry that some of you are having trouble hearing the sounds. Please dont give up, you are very near the end! :D

Mike: re your saved game issue, my only thought is perhaps it is due to playing the game initally without all the files in the same folder, same as what caused the audio issue. this may have mucked things up with the saved game. anybody else know how this could happen?

Thanks for the tips on how to beat the relief puzzle, Shaun. I was finally able to get past it, but I found the only way I could do it was to
Add spoiler tag for Hidden:
start at the middle hand, then go down touching the two places below it, and then clockwise around the relief. No matter how many times I tried going any other way, and regardless of how quickly I touched the remaining locations, the puzzle reset before I could complete it.
And I also found if I had the game set too slow, I couldn't complete it in time either...so like you said, setting the game at default speed was the key. On to the finish!

I'm on day 4, in the church basement. I've done the second room, got the rock on the shore and so forth. But can't get past the padlock on the contraption... can't pick it, don't have the key, and can't find a rock to bash it in... erm.. help?

How generous are the sizes of the hotspots for the relief puzzle? I followed all the hints already in this thread for it, but I may just not be clicking pixel-perfectly enough, because I don't hear a click at all except for the hand...

the hotspot sizes are pretty generous, if you can see on the relief picture areas that are lighter in colour, that is basically where the hotspots are. the sound is quite faint, but even if you cant hear it, clicking the hand first, then the 11 lighter areas within the 10 second limit will solve the puzzle. hope this helps

Hi shaun9991!

I'm playing Mudlarks (and really loving it), and I'm stuck on the moment where I meet the dog with the ball for the first time. I know that I need to select the metal detector cursor and click on the area where the locket was found before I click on the dog, but doesn't seem to work for me - I cannot start the dialogue with the dog's owner about getting the ball from the dog, he just shooes me away every time. I've seen the youtube walkthrough video, and I believe that I've done the same thing (clicking the required spot), but the game just doesn't react like it does in the video.

Please help me... I really really want to finish this game!

Hi there sora_phoenix

I looked back at notes I made when I played the game and found the following:

Man throws boys ball into river. Boy askes if you can retrieve it. Go further along and
see fierce dog with ball in mouth. Chav is nearby. Use metal detector where you found locket, in first screen.
Find rusty nail. Man appears asking about permit. Talk to boy who wants his ball. Ask him to help. Annoy dog and chav tells you he is afraid of cats.

I hope this helps.

BarbWire, you just saved my day. I've made a totally stupid mistake, which has nothing to do with the game and only with my inability to pay attention to the walkthrough video. Thanks to your notes I discovered my mistake, and now I am proceeding further in the game. Thanks a ton!!

No problemo. Glad I could be of help. If you get stuck at a later
stage of the game, just let me know.
