This problem with walk-behinds in D3D when "Ignore walkbehinds" is set on the character is proving to be much more difficult to resolve than I thought. I don't really want to release 3.2 until it is fixed, but it's looking less and less likely that I'll be able to find a fix for it, unfortunately...
Has this been resolved yet?

This was not and NEVER WILL be resolved. At least not in the AGS we are making, that is. As opposite, we recommend everyone to not use "Ignore walkbehinds", ever.
This is because not only technical problems, but also conceptual ones. "Ignore walkbehinds" parameter breaks the drawing logic of the game.

The future versions of AGS will include warning to users that have this parameter set on.

Please, do not use  "Ignore walkbehinds". Try to find another way to achieve effect that you need.

Thank you for your candid answer Crimson, at least that clears up an issue.

cheers ;)
