I'm not sure if that is the way the:

Plumber thingy works. I don't think the game takes money away from you. I think the idea is that you have $300 put aside to pay the plumber with so if you can fix the sink yourself you suddenly gain back that $300 as you don't need it for the plumber anymore. That's how I think it works at least...

"Rule of money" always pay the first that comes to get the money. BTW, it's a rental apartment, so the pipe is the landlord's problem, not the person renting. :p
