Hello there fellow Space Smugglers
I hereby announce my very first Game here, Warp

Warp

Background Story:

In the year 2250 mankind is traveling the stars. Warp Engines have made it possible to move at a speed beyond that of light. However this kind of engine suffers from one fatal flaw. It alters the Space around you, which, according to interstellar travel experts, is a more than risky bussiness. For pilots and every one else in a sector. However it poses to be a very energy friendly way of travelling, which is a strong reason to use it.

Today, in 2257, Warp Travel is only alowed on farflight missions and only once every year. The smuggling bussiness however uses it more than ever, being not only faster than the Space police, but also using less energy.

A recently discovered rare ore that seems to break more laws of physics than you break legal, has brought you back to bussiness. With your first Warp Ship, you get hired by a interstellar syndicate, to mine grab this pot o Gold.

Gameplay:

While being made with AGS, Warp is not an adventure game in the classic sense, but rather a puzzle game. It will however have a story, being told by Communicates between the levels. You are to mine rare ore in sectors of Space by moving your ship around on a 6x6 Grid. The twist is, that you are doing this by pushing the Tile of this Grid, resulting in a continually changing Sector. Therefore i think the Name Warp is pretty fitting.
I hope the Pictures will give an idea of what im talking about ;)

Status:

The game is pretty close to beta, meaning i have implemented most features planned. A lot of testing might be needed due to randomly generated Levels, and i expect a massive amount of bugs that are still unfixed.

Graphics: 95%
Gameplay: 90%
Story: 50%

Release:

Since i am thinking about releasing the game commercially, i will first make a demo version, so you can if interested check out the basic principle of the game. I hope to release this as soon as possible, but i will for sure need some more days just to make sure there are no serious gamebreaking bugs.

Please let me know what you think, and ask if you have questions.
To admins: the game does have no real backgrounds, but i do hope the screenshots are sufficient.

UPDATE: its 21.10.15 Spacetime, and just this very moment a DEMO arrived in hangar C. Hopefully its a trader since we ran out of coffee.

UPDATE: its 21.11.15 Spacetime, one month later. Work on the animations goes well. We installed a basic instructor AI for our new pilots. Communications work again but the Quality is rather aweful.

Congrats on the production :) looks interesting while made with AGS. best of luck!

Stromvin

Thx very much anas, im not really sure if the AGS audience is intersted in such kind of games, but since it is indeed an AGS game i thought it should be here anyway. I can imagine that it doesnt really look that much from the screens, but it has some play value nevertheless. Guess i really should get a demo finished ;)

(wrong) You're wrong. It looks great IMHO.

Also, if you dig around the AGS games archives, you'll be surprised of the amount of non-adventure AGS games.

Stromvin

Thx again for your kind words, you are of course right. Im nearly finished with the demo now, but i'm a bit confused about the standard procedure. Do i have to make an additional post in the release forum? How exactly do i upload the game, and do i need my own webspace to do this? Its all pretty new to me, i guess i will have to read a lot in the forums the next days ;)

In the forum, there's a place to post your "Finished Game" its just above this one, in AGS Games Category.

You might want to modify and update the title of this one using [COMPLETED] or [FINISHED] in front of the title, so it will help redirect people to your new post with completed game (or a link)

You can go Here to add your game.

And for the hosting, there are many places to host your file out there, but you might want to read this post  Here  its a complete guide!

I hope it helps :)

If you're releasing a demo only, but this game is not complete and you're still working on it, just update the first post with a link to the demo (would help to put a date by it so, in the future, people realize it was posted awhile back).  You definitely should not open a new thread for a demo of a game that already has a production thread.

Stromvin

Thank you both for your immediate replies. Its nice to see how helpful people in this forum are ;-D

Dor Hajaj

Hi Stromvin!

I must say i was very impressed with the way you described the game and it made me want to play it.
The concept also seems interesting, and if i understand correctly, the warp altering space thing is related to the gameplay - you move the tiles around you thus you move the space. I think it sounds good and very interesting, made me think of Solar Winds which i liked very much.
I wish you all the best with this game!

Stromvin

Hi Dor Hajaj
And Yes you can ;)
I just uploaded a demo, and hopefully it all worked out, because i now surely am...
To your post. I admit i never heard of Solar Winds, but from the pics i googled ((roll)) it looks quite interesting but i couldnt really make out the kind of gameplay it offers, maybe i will search a video tomorrow.
But you are right with the Warp as influence on the space around you. Its basically a board game turned into software. Like Cards that you can move by pushing another card in. This principle made me think of some sci fi interpretation i once heard to how ftl speed could be possible. And there it was, a Name and a setting! Although i also liked my other concepts, this one finally mad it.

Hello There

It has been exactly 2 days now since i uploaded the game, and a massive amount of 10 People have downloaded it. From that fact, and my experience with steam and the likes, i expect that about 3 People should have actually started the game and tried it ;)
From These 3 People it would be nice to hear what they think. Any Kind of criticism, good, bad or ugly, just spit it out. Also i would like to know how easy or hard it was to get into the game. I mean, how self explaining was it, or were you just totally cofused and hit AltF4 till you got bleedig fingers?8-0

On a sidenote: I am currently putting some Animation in the game, since, you probably noticed, the game is a bit static at times ;)
Now i made the ship have some afterburner like effect when it moves. Until i realized... you idiot! this is a friggi Warp ship it does not use any Kind of actual burning engine. So what do you think? Does it break the Immersion?

greez Sromvin

PS: If it is not allowed to ask something like this in the announcement thread, just tell me ;)

UPDATE:  21.11.15
Yeah im still here in case anyone cared ;)
I did a lot of animations recently and Little things to improve controls. Unfortunately i dunno how to post or create gifs, so a screenshot has to do...
I also created a mediocre font, just to give the game a weirder scifi touch.
Fiddling around with sounds and Music i realized that im worse at creating Music than with math...
Oh and i made a little itch.io page

i plan to animate all the tiles, but im not finished yet. atm they all animate at a random Speed so it doesnt look to uniform.
and of course it can get annoying, so i included an Option to turn it off.

Heh well I'm happy to give it a go and just have but... All I can do is change the mouse cursor by right clicking. I have no idea what to press, how to make anything happen. There are no instructions and the "Story" hint is as vague as it could be, "The warp bubble is on your right, have a go, good luck!" -- HOW to have that go would be useful info!! :)

ps. This is the first link you posted though not the most recent so no idea if that first link was unplayable? Not gonna sugar coat my reply - that font is.... horrible. It cuts my eyes like glass ;) Well I will give it another go certainly (when I know what to do and how to do it) cos the graphics are nice but from what I played, lack of sound, music, hints/help, I don't think it was ready to even be a demo yet tbh.

EDIT. Ok so I figured out that you move to one of the edge of screen arrows, and right click to change icon/mode and then can move each segment around a bit, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing...so I moved around a bit and was told to "Try again". Ah I have no idea what's going on lol (wtf)

Uhm Yeah i can definetely see the Problem. Guess the Thing is i got pretty blind concerning the "WTF am i supposed to do" since i am constantly testplaying it since months...
Maybe a Video would help, or a better demo. But until then, ill try with words.

You are supposed to "mine" all Asteroids in each sector. Asteroids are the brownish tiles. If you move your ship next to them(not behind them! but rather a flyby) you mine them. With each turn you lose 1 fuel. If you are out of fuel, ist "try again". When you get Close to Novas(the red Little things) you lose 1 Point of your ship hull. If they reach Zero, its "try again" As soon as you have "mined" all Asteroids you WIN the Level and get to the next one.
And yes, the font is a bit more horrible than intended ;)

So i really hope this is a help and makes things at least a bit more clear.

Greez Stromvin

Edit: Ok now that i have a page on itch.io i will just post the link here if thats ok. I uploaded a new demo there with some Basic tutorial and the animations, as well as a short intro Music (be warned, im no musician and this is some first try)

http://stromvin.itch.io/warp

PS: But always feel free to ask, this i my first puzzle game and i got no idea how to best explain it ;)
<iframe src="https://itch.io/embed/42168?linkback=true" width="552" height="167" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Hi, thanks for the explanation! Now I understand 8-) I'll give it another go :)

Stromvin

Glad i could help, hope you like it ;)
