Have you made a game in 2016 and want it to compete in the AGS Awards 2016? This is the topic where to showcase it!
Post a database link, a brief description and some pictures (thumbnails preferred, here is an excellent FYC post from last year).

Do not be shy, by posting your game you are helping the players who will take some of their time to play/nominate/vote!

Usual remarks:

  • please include a link to your games page on the AGS games database
  • if you think a game deserves mention but the author isn't around, post a FYC for them! The more worthy games we get here, the better is for everyone!
  • this thread is for FYC posts only, if you want to discuss the awards go here!

Post your games here before nominations start, which will be in about two weeks. The earlier you post, the more time people have to play your game!

You've slept through the apocalypse, but someone's still gotta deliver the mail. A humorous short adventure of mundane work in a hellish scenario.

My first real try at an AGS game, based on a silly idea based loosely on a real job I had. I consider this a practice run to familiarize myself with AGS more than anything, so this isn't exactly ambitious (hence why there's no sound, for one).

CONTROLS: Left click walks/interacts, right click examines/releases current inventory item. Move mouse to the top of the screen for inventory/save/load/quit.

Credits:
Amayirot Akago - Story, design, art, dialogue, scripting
Edmundito - AGS Tween Module 2.0
Ghost - Lightweight BASS 2.0 template

Possible awards:
Best short game
Best freeware game
Quote from: CaptainDMy suspicion is that an accident, probably caused by a lightning storm and a mad professor, resulted in Amayirot's brain becoming inextricably linked to the databases behind MobyGames and LemonAmiga.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

The Man From Fugue State

A stranger arrives in the sleepy town of Tumbleweed, with no memory of his identity, to find the residents suffering at the hands of feared outlaw El Marcado, 'the marked one'. Soon he finds himself caught up in a plot to defeat the outlaw once and for all. But who is this stranger and why is the mysterious El Marcado so interested in Tumbleweed?

Born from my love of Spaghetti Westerns and LucasArts adventure games, this was my first attempt at an AGS game and was approx 10 years in the making. It nearly broke me (I broke it many times with my poor coding), but I survived to tell the tale.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it,

Haggis (art, coding & writing).

Sniper and spotter being patriotic

A newly recruited red army soldier finds himself assigned to a new partner and the two of them soon find themselves in a series of misadventures in a wartorned soviet town...

Sniper and spotter being patriotic is a game which takes place in an eastern European town torn apart between the Axis and Soviet forces. The protagonists are the titular sniper and spotter fighting in what would be known as the great patriotic war in the Soviet union. It is a darkly humorous story serving partially as a satire of the many other games about WWII and the mindless action movies which inspired them.

It's my first longer project in AGS and I've spent about a year working on it. This game is a product of my love for classic 2D animation and my great interest in history.

The world ended on the day the bombs fell. Since then, it's always been like this: disease, hunger, death. The ruling Aristocrats â€" a faceless oligarchy that controls all resources â€" have unchallenged authority. There's never enough food, water, or vaccine to go around. The rich receive regular doses of vaccinations in exchange for their unconditional government support. The poor live in fear, superstition, and squalor until they die.

Amy Wellard, a young woman reluctantly working for the government to qualify for the vaccine lottery, believes there's a cure â€" and she's going to find it. Even if it costs her her life.

The Journey of Iesir *Demo*

The Journey of Iesir takes place in a land reminiscent of the medieval ages, yet has a story that integrates ideas as old as the legendary Vikings, and as modern as the hippie movement in the 1970's.

The player takes the role of Michael, a wandering playwright among other things, and he sees Iesir and its troubles through the fresh eyes of a stranger, yet he becomes pivotal to the events that unfold in Iesir.   Seeking both adventure and inspiration for his new screenplay, under the guidance of his mysterious Mentor, Mikael seeks out a Viking called Daniel Trondhjemsfjord, who needs help with a task that seems adventurous.  What seems like a simple quest of stealing a old Viking painting soon turns out to be more then Mikael could have ever imagined...

Monkeys to the Moon!

Would you believe the MOON is a banana? Well, the monkeys do! And they're not going to take that lying down! Using spare wood, electric eels, and gratuitous reed they plan to build a rocket to fly to the world's biggest banana! In space! In this RTS-like puzzle game, control up to 25 monkeys at the same time as you scour the jungle for resources, build crafting workshops, breed more monkeys, and build The Rocket! Don't forget to defend yourself from hungry snakes. Includes a tutorial, of course.

Please consider for Best Non-Adventure Game as well as Best Programming. Did you know it was possible to make a real-time resource-based RTS game in AGS? Neither did I, until we made this! You can download it here and shoot for the moon!

Dualnames

Until I Have You by Dualnames and Andrea Ferrara

If you could save someone, how much of yourself would you be willing to sacrifice?

Until I Have You aims to recount a thrilling story of regret, love, corruption, and things gone haywire, under the strong, vibrant neon lights of a metropolitan city that just doesn't give a damn.

This is the story of the ARTIST, a talented assassin, who has worked many dirty jobs in a long and successful career. Finally heeding the pleadings of his wife, he has decided it's time to quit this ugly business and live a simple and peaceful life. However the ARTIST's clients know he is irreplaceable, and are unwilling to allow the craftsman to hangup his tool belt. They send him this message by kidnapping his wife, Emily, and make it clear, retirement is not an option! The ARTIST is determined to get his wife back, and prepares himself for one last assignment. He understands to be successful he needs to go all out, and he procures a rare exoskeleton suit. Although this provides him with additional powers, it also can cause hallucinations and affect his judgment.

Stair Quest by No More For Today Productions

Stair Quest is a retro adventure game that pays homage to the most enchanting, pulse-pounding moments from the early King's Quest games. Please consider it for Best Short Game and Best Freeware Game Created with AGS, as well as categories recognizing excellence in graphics, gameplay, writing, and sound.

The realm of Castle's Wood is in despair. As famine, war, disease, and natural disaster wreak havoc upon the land, good King Jonathan seeks the counsel of a wise old Soothsayer.

"Seek ye out the Orb of Stars," she tells King Jonathan. Says the King, "The Orb of Stars is but a legend!" The Soothsayer replies with a sly grin, "Even in legend may one find the truth, m'lord."

So, King Jonathan dispatches his bravest knight, Sir Devon, to quest for the legendary Orb of Stars. Little does he know his own daughter, Princess Ingrid, has also set out in search of the fabled relic...

Features:

  • Gorgeous EGA graphics inspired by classic Sierra On-Line adventure games like King's Quest and The Black Cauldron!
  • An innovative text parser that recognizes literally thousands of commands!
  • Multiple protagonists! Choose to play as either the brave Sir Devon or the daring Princess Ingrid.
  • An original 8-bit soundtrack so good it could pass as a 9-bit soundtrack!
  • An old-school instruction manual filled with Stair Quest lore and important tips for success! So authentic, it could have been written by Roberta Williams herself. (It wasn't.)

Developed in two weeks for AdventureJam 2016 by No More For Today Productions (Patrick Johnston, Gareth Millward, Jess Morrissette, Frederik Olsen, Troels Pleimert, Chris Ushko, and Kevin Wallace). Cover art ("Roll for Initative...") by Jon Hodgson. Cover design by Andy Couch.

LEGEND OF HAND DEMO by Cloak and Dagger Games

A quirky point and click adventure game with RPG elements set in a Far-East inspired world! Influenced by adventure classics and martial arts beat ‘em up games of the 80's and 90's. This demo features the first section of the game - the full release will be out in the next few months.

The Story

When your wise old crony masters send you on a quest to find a missing messiah known as Grandmaster Hand, it's best not to ask too many questions â€" though it's safe to say the fate of the world depends upon finding him.

Four mysterious, tight-lipped martial arts masters are said to hold the clues to his location and each is shacked up on their own island, stretching out across vast oceans, claiming to be his successors. But are they really what they claim to be? Maybe, if you can beat them in a fight they'll talk - but that's okay, you've trained your whole life and you're an absolute badass!

The only problem is you aren't too good at saying no to people... You're supposed to be a fighter, so what are you are doing in the kitchen? Why are you running around doing errands for old ladies and solving relationship woes? Yep, there's a lot to do on your adventures - travel across the unique islands and see what traditions they have on offer. There's gambling, banquets, fishing and all sorts of fun ways to spend your time - just don't forget to find Grandmaster Hand!

Features

- An epic quest and unfolding storyline that spans many years and unique lands
- A massive cast of intriguing, mysterious, bizarre, amusing and crazy characters (some utterly useless)
- Unique and retro drawn graphics and huge catalogue of animations including costume changes, disguises and drunk dancing
- Learn new moves, increase your HP and fight using a turn based RPG style fighting system that's easy to learn and fun to play!
- Expect to meet companions who will aid and follow you in your adventures!
- Get sick, fall in love, fight for the innocent, gamble, make grub for Gran - the world of Legend of Hand is varied and detailed
- Typical adventure game elements such as puzzles and dialogue interactions. Expect the difficulty to increase as your quest progresses, things may seem easy to begin with, but that won't always be the case!
- Mini games galore, including cricket fighting and fish tickling!
- Full screen animated drawn cut scenes.
- Hidden secrets for keen explorers! Mind your trousers…
- Unique and engaging original soundtrack
- The odd real world cameo here and there

This game was an AGS pick of the month and I feel that it could be considered for a nomination in the category of:

PREDATORS PREY FOR PLANTS

Extra Screenie:
Spoiler
[close]

G'day,

This game was created by Ross Kevin Moffat (AKA Mandle) for the July 2016 Monthly Adventure Game Studio (MAGS) contest.

The game is a simple simulation of the predators/prey/plants relationship.

At the moment there is no way to either "win" or "lose"...It's basically just a sandbox where you can explore the various interactions of wild animal and plant populations.

Observing the fluctuations of the different populations should give you some first-hand experience with the concepts of dwindling resources, boom-and-bust in plant and animal populations, and even extinction in extreme cases.

This hidden section is a guide to the game mechanics:

Spoiler

BROWN pixels are DIRT: All animals and plants CAN spread into DIRT areas.
BLUE pixels are WATER: All animals and plants CANNOT spread into WATER areas.
GREEN pixels are PLANTS: PREY need PLANTS to survive and spread. PREDATORS can also spread into PLANT areas.
YELLOW pixels are PREY: Herbivores...PREDATORS need PREY to survive and spread.
RED pixels are PREDATORS: Carnivores...Top of the food chain but will soon die without herbivores to prey on.

The panel controls are:

S or f5 to open the Save Map window.
L,R, or f7 to open the Load Map window.
Q,Ctrl-Q, or ESC to open the Quit Game (or continue) window.

The in-game controls are:

Left Mouse Click to draw on the map.
Right Mouse Click to change the draw cursor's colour.
Scroll Wheel Up/Down to change cursor size from 1-10 pixels.

The TITLE SCREEN at the start of the game is an actively running map. To change to a different map and start playing it you will need to either delete the TITLE SCREEN map bit by bit (yawn) or hit L or f7 to open the Load Map Screen where you will find a few sample maps as well as an ALL BROWN map, an ALL GREEN map, and an ALL BLUE map to start drawing on.

IMPORTANT: NEVER, EVER DELETE THE AGSSAVE.998 FROM THE SAVED MAPS FOLDER!!! THIS IS THE TITLE SCREEN AND IF YOU DELETE IT THE GAME WILL HAVE NO TITLE SCREEN ON START-UP AND MAY CRASH!!!

The game cannot be paused while running and you can draw on the screen at any time regardless of the scanning progression of the calculations.

You can pause the game if you need to step away from it for a moment by opening the save game, load game, or quit/confirm window, and then hitting the CANCEL or PLAY button when you are ready to continue.

If you leave the game running it will run forever. You can come back an hour, day, week, month, or year later and it will still be running your map.

As this game was made fast and rough in only a few sittings it is lacking many features that one would probably expect, such as population counters, graphs of growth and decline, etc etc. but even in this crude state I feel it could be useful in a classroom situation where cycles of boom-and-bust in nature, and/or extinction are being studied, or even just for your own personal study of such.
[close]

The game is 100% FREEWARE and was created on the also free ADVENTURE GAME STUDIO engine, which was created by Chris Jones.

I, Ross Kevin Moffat (AKA Mandle), give full permission to you to freely (but only for free) redistribute this game as you see fit.

I hope you have a fun, interesting, and/or learning experience.

Cheers!

Paul Franzen

I hope I'm not too late!! Here's my game, for your consideration:

The Beard in the Mirror

"Don't you remember me? After all we've been through..."

What do you want to be when you grow up? Paul thought his life would be set after college, but at 22 he's toiling away in a job he doesn't like and coming home to an empty apartment every night. He doesn't know who he is, where he's going, or how he fits into his world.

But then on one dark and stormy night, a mysterious woman appears to him, and everything changes...

The Beard in the Mirror is a throwback to when adventure games came in giant cardboard boxes and if you didn't have the hintbook, that was it; you were stuck on that puzzle for the rest of your life. It's a labor of love from a husband-and-wife team from two different worlds (she's a Sierra fangirl, and he's a LucasArts diehard) who have been working on it together since before they even started dating.

I guess I'm a bit late, but I also want to include my two games added last year for your consideration:

The Tale of Lonkey Island

This game is a parody on the classic adventures of LucasArts. Everything in this game seems to be very similar, but also very different than in the original games.
The presentation is well-known, but there's a fully new game under it, including strange puzzles and humor.
Note that this is a full-length game, at least the size of a MI2, so probably you wouldn't manage to finish it until the 4th of february.
I request you to not just play the start of the game, which is very very MI1ish, but follow the plotline at least into part 3, to conceive your opinion about the game.

The other game is
Maniac Mansion Mania 90: Packing the suitcase
An Episode of the Maniac Mansion Mania Series, I made a few years ago, but just was added to the AGS-Database last year.
This is a short game where your only task is to find some things, which Britney wants to put into her suitcase (and of course this isn't as easy as it seems).

Set in the 90's, Kathy Rain tells the story of a strong-willed journalism major who has to come to terms with her own troubled past as she investigates the mysterious death of her recently deceased grandfather. Armed with her motorcycle, a pack of cigs, and a notepad, Kathy begins to delve into a local mystery surrounding her hometown that will take her on a harrowing journey full of emotional and personal turmoil.

As she follows a trail of clues he left behind, questions emerge... What was Joseph Rain really looking for that night all those years ago? What turned him into a mere shell of a man, confined to a wheelchair? What secret did a suicidal young artist take with her to the grave, and why are so many people in Conwell Springs going mad? The truth is dark and sinister...
