Case #8
It was a strange sight for the detective as he got to the remote body recovery site in a sparsely grown part of an old wood. The dead body must lie here for years. But he knew in an instant what happened. Do you?

Yes(nod)
Was the body decomposed?
Was it a skeleton?
Was the body human?
Was there clothes on the body?
Was the reason why this is a "sparsely grown part" of the woods related to the reason for the death?
Was it the only skeleton they found?
Had there been a forest fire?
Was the victim wearing anything made from foamed neoprene?
When you say he knew "what happened", does that refer to how the person died (as opposed to e.g. why their body was found now)?
Was the victim participating in a hobby a shortish time before they died?
Was the victim wearing any large metal cylindrical objects?

No(wrong)
Had the body fallen from a tree?
Was the body found on a “body farm“ (not sure if this is the right expression, I mean a place where scientists put bodies to watch and record the process of decomposition)?
was there a bullet found near the body?
Was there a hole in the skull?
Was the head separated from the body?
Was there an unopened parachute?
Was the body a girl/child?
Were there clothes near the body?
Was the body that of an old person (pre-decomposition)?
Was it an restricted area after a nuclear catastrophe?
Was there a plane crash?
Is this a victim of the crash?
Was a tree trunk spread across the body? (such as the tree had fallen on him)
Was there a cross nearby?
Was the body buried? Had the body been buried at one point?
Did the detective killed this person?  (laugh)

Unanswerable/Irrelevant:-\
Was the reason of death easy to see without further investigation? (Depends on the experience one has, doesn't it?)
Was the body a woman?
Was the body male?

Sinitrena

Did he/she die in winter?
Was he/she a skier?
Had there been an avalanche?

He had been wearing a jet pack and crashed and the jet pack caused a fire he was caught in.

Was he the cause of the fire?
Pro is the opposite of Con                       Kids of today are so much different
This fact can clearly be seen,                  Don't you know?

So I'm sure Mandle got it, but just to get it over with:

The skeleton was wearing a diving suit with air tanks, and the explanation is that he was diving in a lake when a helicopter came to scoop up water to put out the forest fire, accidentally grabbing him with it (and then he was dumped over the forest, of course).

Cassiebsg

Ah shoot, I had discarded that one cause of the "no fall", but i can see it apparently was only asked about "from a tree"...  (roll)
Then again, I was sure that in the original story the guy did hit the trees, and that would have made the "fall from a tree" true.   (laugh)
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

That's absolutely right. Just a snack for the riddle-hungry audience :)

Snarky

It's really Mandle's turn. If he doesn't want it, I do have one...

Mandle just gimme the damn answer :P

Sorry, I knew the riddle already so I felt bad about just giving it away. I thought I'd just ask a few questions to provide some hints, but it seems I had to be a smartass and prove that I knew the answer while doing so.

Sorry about that as well :-[

I believe the winner, Cassie, or one of the runners-up, Tabby or Selmiak, have the right to run a round (or even just run around), but I'll jump in with what should be a fairly short one that just popped into my head if they don't mind:

Case #9
A man got taller as he died. Why?

Sinitrena

Mandle

Case #9
A man got taller as he died. Why?

YES

NO
Was he tied to a rack?

Snarky

Was he squeezed or flattened in some way?
Does it matter that he was a man?
Was he killed?

Mandle

Case #9
A man got taller as he died. Why?

YES

NO
Was he tied to a rack?
Was he squeezed or flattened in some way?
Does it matter that he was a man? (No, it's just for the ease of using pronouns.)
Was he killed? (I'm assuming you're asking if he was murdered. He was killed by what happened to him, but not by another person.)

CaptainD

Was he his normal height immediately before he started dying?

Did the death take a long time (at least, he didn't die instantly)?

Was he on earth at the time?

Snarky

Was he a human being?
Did he get more than, say, a couple of centimeters taller?
Was he falling at the time of death?
Was he being stretched?
Did he fall into a black hole?

Tabata

Was it a (hu-)man that was born?
The moment your life starts is the same you begin to die. Before you usually get the chance to grow.

Did he fall into a black hole?

WHAT THE...!? Who even jumps to such a far-out conclusion that quickly?!

Aaaaand... you are 100% correct!

(Wow, that was over a lot faster than I anticipated... (laugh))

Solution
The man was an astronaut falling into a black hole and getting spaghettified by the intense difference in gravity between his feet and his head.

Well, over to Snarky, or Cassie, or someone... Kinda lost track...

Snarky

Oh, after Tabata's guess I figured the black hole thing was the red herring you wanted us to think, while the real answer was that he died slowly over a year or so (from a disease, maybe) while still growing normally.

OK...

Case #10
In the middle of the night, a mother sneaks into the bedroom where her son is sleeping and kills him.

Yeah, the (slightly depressing) answer that he was just a normal guy growing up (and hence slowly dying at the same time) occured to me soon after I posted the riddle. That's a pretty damn good answer too!

Mandle

Was her son a child? (younger than, say, 13 years old)
