So.. someone hid a valuable object (a diamant maybe?) inside a teddy bear, gave the Teddy to a kid (his son maybe?) send the kid with the teddy travelling to another country (maybe as UN-acompanied minor), his partner in crime (the mother maybe?) then takes the teddy rips it apart and retries the diamant...  (laugh)

This is already is the NO list:

Was it used to smuggle something?

So, unless this answer is wrong/misleading, I guess the teddy bear was only used as a hiding place/drop-point for some stolen goods to be stored/hidden until the partner in crime could come by and pick it up, and not to sneak the stolen goods past someone else.

So:

Was the teddy bear used as a hiding place/drop-point for some stolen goods to be stored/hidden until the partner in crime could come by and pick it up?
Were the goods hidden inside the bear for longer than a year?
Were the goods hidden inside the bear for longer than 10 years?

Tabata

Hmmm - so we have a thief who owns a teddy that hides his stolen goods. The teddy is placed in the thiefs bed when it was cut open from  from another partie.
If so there must have been someone illegally in the thiefs bedroom to search for the stolen goods.  :-\

Was the intruder the owner of the stolen goods?
Did his partner in crime cut the teddy?
Was it an insurance fraud?

I consider this the correct solution. For a while, the only element you all where missing was, that the person who cut open the teddy was not allowed to do so in any way or form. It wasn't the police or an original owner, and the teddy was not used as a drop-off point. You actualy already knew that the owner of the bear and the one who cut him open were partners in crime.

So, the story as I originally thought it up:

Two thieves steal a bunch of diamonds. They devide the loot, and each hides his share. Then something happens to one of the thieves and the other decides to double his share by stealing it from his accomplice. He breaks into the home and finds the diamands in the teddy after a long search, brutally slashes him open, takes the diamonds and discards the teddy on the bed where he originally found him.

I am not sure if my connection will stay stable but we got a visit from a technician yesterday afternoon
(he said that connections will only work as of tomorrow) but it already does    (roll)
So maybe I should simply risk it for a short and easy case

... and afterwards  - if all goes well - I will be able to present the first case I created on my own.

Keep it coming!
CASE # 24:

Yes
Is Mary a mouse?

No
Was Mary a bug?

Ha, ha, ha â€" seems to become  not only a short, but supershort crime solving.  (laugh)

Mandle

Hehe I think this has been answered already, but:

Mary was a mouse who tried to eat the bait from a mousetrap, which snapped shut and killed her... It's sad though: considering she had a name I'm guessing she was a pet mouse that got trapped by accident :(
