Ran into a problem playing videos for my game (1920x1080) resolution .avi (kept getting a video play error) and learned browsing the forums that converting to .ogv and running them from game folder would fix it - which worked!

Now problem is the conversion DESTROYS the quality of video (colors are a mess and picture quality became a pixelated nightmare!)- I'm using Pazera ogv converter with a Theora video codec, tried rendering it different ways. Nothing is working. :undecided:

Suggestions?

How does it play in your external video player (VLC, windows Media Player...) ? Is it also a mess there? If yes, then it's not an AGS issue, it's only a video conversion issue. In that case This thread should not be here, but, don't lose hope! You can either post your question in "ask something. We can help" or in some dedicated video forum, where people will have more knowledge of those questions.

I got the color and video to convert better with Prism from NCH Software.

Converted .ogv file plays fine in video player but lags and stutters in AGS

Try using ffmpeg_theora: http://v2v.cc/~j/ffmpeg2theora/

(Like I've already mentioned whenever I'm suggesting the above program, I converted a ~1 GB 1920x1080 gameplay movie to a 60MB ogv while basically keeping the quality)

Used the one you posted Khris. Cannot find where you can render .ogv with it? It's only giving me an option to render in .ogm or .ogg?

So,I tried rendering it .ogg and dropping it into the compiled folder and got this error.

Yeah, as far as I can see that's just an option to set the extension of the generated output file; the selection has no bearing on the format.
The manual says "make sure the file has an .ogv extension", so do as eri0o suggests and try renaming it.

YES! Working much better  :cheesy: (still a bit laggy but not nowhere near as much) I'll play with the settings in the converter.

You guys are awesome tho. thanks so much.
