Help with The Clockwork Labyrinth

I am stuck on finding the way to find the ticket

If you look at the ticket machine, you will be told what you need.  If you look around you will find what you need, but you may need to find something else to access it.  Everything is there in that one location.

I'm glad you started this thread!

I'm completely stuck right at the beginning

I'm at the fuse box for the elevator. I see a bunch of fuses and a message about the positive connection and negative connection requiring a certain number of red and blue. There is also a tester on the bottom right that will light up a left or right light when of of those items are plugged in. As far as the red and blue, I see some wires that are red and blue and some vertical bars holding fuses that are red and blue. The hint of "including" a red and blue probably refers to one of the above.

I am not sure what to even ask because I don't see any objective for this puzzle about 45 minutes other than the obvious

I have a question myself. I'm slightly further, basically in the area following the elevator:

What can I do with the four playing card things? I can open the card slot and circle through the cards but there are a couple of buttons that do not work, no matter what I do. I think I have to do something somewhere else in the labyrinth, but where and what? Maybe I'm just not ready for this puzzle yet.

Re the electric box for the elevator:

To operate the elevator requiress a positive and a negative circuit with active transistors. The first task is to trace the correct circuits. There is only one positive circuit (red wires) that passes through both the Rectifiers (blue tops - left of centre) and the Resistors (red tops - right of centre). There is also only one negative circuit (black and blue wires) that passes twice through the Rectifiers. Once you have traced these two circuits, you need to remove and test each transtor on these cicuits in turn and return it if it is active (green light), or change it for another one if it is dead (red light).

Regarding the playing card puzzle:
The  Clockwork Labyrinth is generally non-linear in design.  You  can explore the game's environment and tackle the puzzles in any order you wish.  There are a few that must be solved before you can access certain new areas of the game, but generally, seeking a clue to a difficult puzzle elsewhere in the game is more productive than blind perseverance.  Clues to a puzzle in one part of the game can often be found in another location.

This is certainly true of the playing card puzzle, and if you don't eventually figure it out, there is a solution included later in the game!

Uhm... actually Shadow1000 is color blind... we're so used to red=wrong and green=right that we forget about color blind people. :-[ Sorry, my fault here.

@elentgirl : Maybe do a little game update and add a wrong/right sound to the tester? Or just remove the red color, so if it's wrong it just won't light?

I don't know what you mean when you say "circuit". Do you mean from positive to negative passing through the vertical bars in middle? Most of the wire paths are difficult or impossible to follow because at some point they just get lost or "buried".

And before I put more time into this game, are there other puzzles that assume that the player can tell colours apart and know what different colours represent?

I agree that tracing the two circuits is more difficult when you remove the colours of the wires.  I am sending you a keyed up screenshot to help you work it out.

Okay, I figured the playing card thing out. I'm stupid, had the right idea, misclicked and then thought I had the wrong idea. (roll)

Anyway, I have very little left to do, so I think I'm getting close to the end but I'm stuck now at all of them.

Shangri-La:

I got the right order for the symbols and the character said there was a click or something inside the box. Now I can't do anything with it, but I didn't notice it doing anything for me either. Have I solved this puzzle or not?

St. George:

He always dies. I assume the right combination of sword and shield let's George win, but I found no hint for what this combination would be.

Gnome Garden:

I also found the entrance to Marisandra's grave but can't open it. I think I'm not supposed to yet. And the second control panel for the revolving door. I don't think I have found the combination yet.

In my inventory I have:

Three pages from the professor's journal, a teleporting devise, a little bit of money and a lamp. I've used the holy symbols, the star turn crystals, a crystal for the Shangri-La photos, key, bell, coin and diamond ring in the ornate frames, scarabeus and two "wings" and I think that's all I ever had in my inventory. Am I missing something?


A hint for any one of them would be nice - but preferably not for all of them. I want to figure out as much  as possible on my own.

I have, unfortunately. I loaded an older safe and tried it again. Now it worked. I guess I'll have to redo a couple things. Luckily, I have extensive notes.

I have, unfortunately. I loaded an older safe and tried it again. Now it worked. I guess I'll have to redo a couple things. Luckily, I have extensive notes.

I'm pleased that you have managed to get past the point where you were stuck, but I'm concerned about why it would not work.  I don't suppose you can identify anything that you did differently on the two occasions, when it worked and when it didn't.  It's not something the testers found and it's never happeend when I've played through the game.  I'd like to idebtify why it happened to you.

Love the game. Solved everything so far in the Metal Maze, except for:
Pipe puzzle - I'm sure it's easy. I've spent so long spinning these around. Can't ever seem to connect the pipes to all the outlets at once... Aaargh. Because I can't do this puzzle, pretty sure I can't enter Caves, Crypt & Museum as there's no pressure.
Card game - 4 of them. Referred to info board to see which "deck" for each one. Tried a number of things... got nada.
Lock - inserted key. Says I need to do one more thing... err?

I used the second panel of the revolving door, locking me in this part of the labyrinth. The next lock obviously requires a combination from the skulls behind the chalice puzzle (which I solved, and put the chalice in the last ornate frame) but it feels like I tried every halfway logical combination from it. I tried adding them up, subtracting, multiplying, using the lower numbers as positions and the higher ones as the combination, and vice versa - and a lot of other things that seem not logical enough for a puzzle limited to such a small space. After all, there can't be a hint anywhere else - correct? -because I can't go back there. Are there really roman numerals on the skulls or is it something else? Am I supposed to do anything with the skulls except getting a close-up (can't click them)? This feels like it should be easier than I make it.

They are Roman numerals on the skulls.  If you look carefully, you will see that there is also something else different about each skull, which might remind you of the border pattern around the turning gate control!

You don't need to connect all the pipes.

Connect one, then use that system. Once that door is open connect another. You are only trying to plumb steam from the left outlet to the upper systems identified by the colour on the outside of the tank.

I am in the Caves of Confusion in the central room. I have 3 pages of Maximus' notes, and 6 sacred objects. From the notes I know that the feather follows the sun which is probably number 1, and the doll follows the cup with the monkey on it. This leaves the bear teeth either before or after the cup, with the possibility of the skull taking any of the 6 positions available (from the notes). I swear I have tried every possible combination to no avail.

 Please help!

There are still two more clues to find that will help you work out the correct sequence.
Many of the puzzles in the Clockwork Labyrinth cannot easily be solved when you first meet them.  As you explore more, a bigger picture emerges and clues are gathered from various places to give you the solution.  I recommend that you leave this one for now and continue exploring.

Okay, I've left that puzzle. Can anyone help with:

The Egyptian rooms? I've found 3, one each in the metal maze, caves and crypt. I assume that I need the scarab and wings to unlock the museum. In all my wanderings I have not found any heiroglyphs apart from these rooms. There must be a clue somewhere, but I can't see it.
I'm tearing my hair out over this.

EDIT: Solved! I've got to be more observant.

Great progress has been made, but I am stumped, bamboozled and stuck on this:

I kind of get the impression that I have to fix the projector to solve Shangri-La, which will open the tomb, which will lead to other progress. I have nothing in my inventory to use. (Items I have are the 4 notebook pages, torch and teleport device.) The pirate's map shows I've picked up all treasures from the Metal Maze. I cannot get further into the Cryptic Crypt, and I've solved the Caves of Confusion. I've gone all over the game board back to the elevator, finding nothing new.
Any ideas anyone?

There's a puzzle in the metal maze, with the horoscope/zodiac drawn in the back. (maybe the one with the fortune teller?).

Cassiebsg has already given you a hint/solution, but you alerted me to the fact that there was an error in the pirate's map - it should have shown a treasure not found.  It turned out to be a mis-placed flag viarable.  I am very sorry for this slip-up. :-[

Thanks for everything, but even now I can't finish that puzzle. I see the 5 things I need, press the buttons in the order it was presented and - nothing. Tried reverse order, all permutations and still nothing. I'm thinking of restarting and deleting my saved games, I don't believe this puzzle is quite "bug free", and hence the game is not so "non-linear" as you would desire. Fortunately I have over 60 pages of notes (!!!!) so it won't take too long; if that doesn't work I'll just give up. Thanks anyway.

Uhm... this puzzle isn't about going back. (wrong)
Can be solved on the spot as far as I remember. But also took me a long while to get the "right" elemets in the "right" order...

You need to pay good attention to the pictures, and note the order at which element shows up.
Remember, it's 5 images you are searching for, in the order they are shown... It's a bit tricky, yes.

I also at one point thought that maybe there was more to it... but it turned out it was just me miss interpreting an image or two.
To help solve it, I paused the game at each slide (I was playing windowed mode, so I just clicked outside the window). I had drawn the box images... but I think taking a screenshot of it might be more helpful (which I also did)...

Thanks again Cassiebsg, but it's not working.
I can see all 5 symbols, and the box will not open. I tried the windowed mode, screen print, open in photopaint, enlarge etc.

Actually it's not a "spoiler", as all enjoyment I've had from this game has evaporated. They talk about the 7 stages of grief from denial to acceptance - well I've discovered the 7 stages of adventure gaming: Amusement, consternation, frustration, annoyance, aggrievance, despair and resignation. I am well into the latter stages.

To open the private box:
Add spoiler tag for Hidden:
Press five buttons in this order: 9,1,3,7,5. You should hear a noise and get a message: "Something clicked inside the box".  If you then click on the box lid, it should open.
If none of the above happens, return from close-up view, then go into close up again and click on the lid. Do you get a message about the lid being locked? If not, something has gone wrong, which I will try to sort out for you.

I have tried that combination before, and it didn't work so I tried something else. After you gave me the solution (which must work - it didn't. So I tried it again and second time lucky. I did not mis-click, it really took 2 attempts.
Back loving the game, but I'm sure there's a bug lurking in there. Once I was successful, it all happened just as you said it would.

Back loving the game, but I'm sure there's a bug lurking in there. Once I was successful, it all happened just as you said it would.
I'm pleased that you have managed to progress.  I think that you might have hit an obscure bug that another player found a few days ago - unfortunately one that slipped past the testers.  If you press all the right buttons but leave the close-up view before clickling on the lid, when you go back into close-up view, it no longer responds to clicks.  This will be fixed in the next version of the game, but if you hit it in the current version, you need to reload before trying the box and make sure you complete the process before you leave close-up view.  I'm sorry for all the confusion and frustration this one little bug has caused!

Hi Elen,

Finished! I tell you that 2nd to last puzzle (the picture frame) was diabolical!!! Great game, but I don't think you fully comprehend the bug in "Shangri-La", and it is dependant upon when you do it. E.g. I did a "run through" from the beginning and attacked that puzzle ASAP- knowing the answer. It worked like a charm, exactly as you intended. I reloaded my savegame where I had troubles, and Bingo - solution don't work unless you run through it twice. All buttons were clickable, but the puzzle had to be done twice. Would you like me to send you my savegame so you can try it yourself?

Anyway awesome effort, congrats and thanx, Wiggy.

For this game a walkthrough is necessary!!!

I found a few puzzles to be really tough, but never felt that any were unfair except for one I pointed out during playtesting for which a further clue was provided.

Some parts got frustrating but never to the point where I just wanted to give up.

And if you need a walkthrough, then just use one. No shame in that.

Unfortunately I am not aware of anyone having written a walkthrough for The Clockwork Labyrinth.  I have been toying with the idea of maybe writing a User Guide, with hints and solutions, rather like the one I made for Adventure Island.  The problem is that the most of the game can be played in any sequence, so a traditional walkthrough would not be suitable.  I did hope that I might have provided sufficent clues for a walkthrough to be unnecessary, and I have included solutions to a few of the harder puzzles in the Museum of Curiosities.

I also try to answer personally any cries for help on individual puzzles.  If you send me a PM I will always answer it.

To be honest, after many hours of trying this over the course of a few weeks, I just dropped it. I know that some people found it playable but while I usually complete most games with few to no hints, I found myself asking for help more than actually playing and I gave up. I am not criticizing but I hope this feedback is helpful in future games.

Some positive feedback: the graphics and animation are BEAUTIFUL! Probably the strongest part of the game. Some of the puzzles I completed and enjoyed.

Just to round out my thoughts: in addition to the problem with the puzzles, I found most of my time just wandering the maze finding it very difficult to navigate even using mapping on graph paper. Some sort of story unfolding during the course of a game keeps the player wanting to play. Otherwise, even if the puzzles were solvable then the player's only reward for solving a puzzle is another puzzle to solve. I think that's really why I ran out of motivation to continue.

I think the game is really aimed at players who love solving puzzles above all else. For this kind of player unlocking a new puzzle is a reward in and of itself.

Not saying that a bit more story progression during the game would go astray at all. But there are only so many hours in the day and this game already must have taken months or years to produce.

Oh and, perhaps the last few comments in this thread could be moved by a mod to the game release thread instead of here in Hints and Tips...

I agree, this is a game for those that love to solve the puzzles and find it rewarding just to solve each puzzle self. I feel this kind of player is a dying (barely breathing) race thought. (wtf)

Thanks for the guide, I probably wouldn't have completed the game without it.

Awesome atmosphere, good puzzles overall. I would have been happy with a little more story, but realise that wasn't the point of this game.

A mixed bundle of observation/feedback:

The gnome-puzzle

I basically cheated and looked up. I had the first part right, but hadn't figured out the second part at all.

St George

beat the dragon by trial and error - even after seeing the solution, I think I would probably have missed this one

For the sphinxes

I needed the hint to see the obvious

Madame Mystic

Without the pirate treasure map, I would certainly have missed this one

The steam pump

I needed a hint mostly to reassure me, that it was solvable at all for other than blue. I'm still not sure why I can connect the pipes to the bottom outlet, but not the right ones, without leaking

Figuring out the sun cross

I spent a solid hour trying to turn this into a set of equations Wolfram Alpha would sove for me. Gave up. The spent half an hour eliminating possibilites by hand

Sacred objects

Placed them all correctly. Then rearranged them frustratedly until I read the hint book and figured out I had to press the hand

the Museum of Curiosities

This changed the pace of the game a lot. Suddenly lots of hints are available, including lots of stuff that you already firgured out at this point. For instance, I had a decent map of the caves of confusion at this point, and don't see how I could have opened the museum without it, except by stumbling upon the sphinx by mistake. It was a welcome change of pace, however. At this point a had felt stuck grinding through the metal maze for a while, and suddenly having all these new avenues to explore (and the teleportation device) brought my attention back to the game. I feel I could have used the museum of curiousities a little earlier in the game

Finally a nagging question

Add spoiler tag for Hidden:
The Utility Room contains a locked heart box with controls - is this simply a red herring?

The steam pump

I'm still not sure why I can connect the pipes to the bottom outlet, but not the right ones, without leaking

If you step back and look at the pump, you will see that the bottom outlet is a drain tap, which is closed.  The outlets on the right side either link to each other (and don't leak if both are connected) or to the blue door pipe.

The locked box in the site office is the master switch for the 5 control modules (the 5 frame puzzles) and is detail - not part of the game.  The plan of the Metal Maze in the Museum shows how they all link up.

Ok, I wandered off from the Sun Cross and accidentally found the Serpent Shrine. Pressed the buttons in the correct order and the door opened! Still wondering why there was no apparent reaction to mouse clicks on the Sun Cross though..Curious..
