hello, I am now dealing with this situation: I want to do a game in spanish and I found out that the game doesn't show some of the stuff, like ¿, ¡, à, ò... even when this can be seen on the "fonts", any one has an idea about how I can manage that situation? I have been sheaching here for similar problems but I found nothing.
Thanks you all.

In this first image you can see the font I am using and there you can see that there are all the symbols of the Spanish language, such as "ñ", or the accents in the vowels: "á".

here in this second image we see the script of one of the rooms and a line of dialogue of the protagonist, here you can see all the symbols

https://postimg.cc/image/fee7g4yij/

and here we see how it appears in the game, the protagonist's text contains errors in the places where "a" accents should appear.

To upload the images you have to actually upload them: send them to an online image storage service. Writing the file path on your computer (even following "http") doesn't work: none of us have access to files on your computer.

For example, you can use https://postimages.org/
Or https://imgbb.com/
Or https://imgur.com/ (though they've hidden away the upload link recently)

JoanCortada, on your first screenshot I can see that "Normal" font is selected. Character speech uses "Speech" font. Are you using same font for speech, or different one? Do you change the speech font anywhere in scripts with "Game.SpeechFont = NNN" command?

Still, I have certain suspicions about the displayed font, because it looks like some letters are not displayed correctly on their own. Could you tell if this is a TTF font or WFN font, and where did you get it?

Another thing, font must match the system locale you are using. To know which locale the scripts are saved in: go to your game's folder, open "<YourGameName>.agf" file with a simple text editor (don't change anything there or game will break!), and read the very first line. It should be saying something like:
Quote
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
Could you tell what "encoding" your file has?

Hi Crimson Wizard,
Thanks for your help

I'm using "Normal" as a "speech" font, for now I am using the same Font for everything, and I am using a TrueType (.ttf) Font and I downloaded from somewhere on internet but I had the same problema before, using the font the game come with.

I go into the "compiled" file and then "Data" and I find the Ana.agf (Ana is the name of the game), I open it with a text editor and the first line is just a random compilations of symbols and chinese characters:

No, that looks like contents of *.ags file (compiled game), I was meaning agf file, which is located in the root project folder, near room files etc. It should have actual text inside.

Yes, in theory that also could be a problem. AGS is a ANSI program, and when compiling the game it converts all game texts according to the current
system locale.

You need to go to the Language settings and make sure that you have "Language for non-Unicode programs" set to the one you are using in game (Spanish).
Here is an example of how to change this option in Windows 10 (other versions of Windows may have slightly different menus):

(sorry for quality, that's just a random video I quickly found on youtube)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="gb2312"?>

Right, I googled and GB-2312 is Chinese encoding: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GB_2312
So it was probably all because you have Chinese as a default language in the system, so all the text you type in AGS is converted using Chinese locale which has different letter numbers, and does not match the regular font with Spanish letters.

Oh thanks, then, in theory, I just need to install Windows in spanish language.

I will try to do it tomorrow, I will keep you up dated.

Oh thanks, then, in theory, I just need to install Windows in spanish language.

I think you could simply install additional language, you may have multiple languages installed in same system, but only one selected as "Language for non-Unicode applications" at a time.

SOLVED
Thanks, I just needed to adjust the "Language for non-Unicode applications"

thanks a lot.
