I'm planning for the next big game Bill Starshine but I have got stuck in thinking of one of the puzzles. At somewhere of the first part you need to find stuff to the repair-droid DX22 and one of them is a blow-torch. The locations so far are Professor Nuts and Assistant Dunno's Lab, a bar, a main-street, a shop, a ware-house, a casino, the casino's office, outside ware-house, outside Lab, the Spaceship location and two or three outside places between the city, the Lab and the Spaceship. Could someone help me thinking of a good puzzle that is not too tricky but not too easy either. I don't have come up with all iventory items yet so it's okay that you come up with some stuff. Note that it's on another planet and the year is 2378, so think some stuff that is future like but some 20:th and 21:th stuff can work out. Well, good luck.

Oh come on! Please! Help me! I beg you guys! I really need your help. So be some sports and help, please? Guys?

Ben

First of all, we need a lot more details. What is the problem you're havong? Do you need a place for the blowtorch to be hidden? Or do you need some ideas for what other things are needed to repair the droid? What's wrong with the droid in the first place?

Mats Berglinn

Hmm... it's not the droid itself that needs to be repair, he needs (yes DX22 is a he, he hates to be reffered as it or that) the blowtorch to repair a spaceship that is broken. What a want help with is coming up a clever puzzle (but not too hard since it's just beginning of the game) to get a blowtorch. You know talking to guys, get stuff and interact stuff with some things and so on. I can't come up with any ideas of how to get a blow-torch I want to have a short serie of puzzles to get it, like you do to get the Idol from Governor's mansion in Secret of Monkey Island. That type of puzzles. Have I made myself clear?

I was planing that you should get a robot arm from a junk-pile in Professor Nut's lab and then trade another robot the arm for a blowtorch but then thought it was too easy. Hmmm... maybe. I don't know yet.

It's not a question of hard and easy.  Why would anyone give you a blowtorch for a robot arm?

If it makes sense, even game-sense, it goes in.

A couple suggestions:

1.  A blowtorch would logically be in a work-room only, where many things need metal-work.  No one just leaves blow-torches lying around.  So distracting a worker (perhaps a droid) seems logical.  Perhaps watching the pattern of mechanics would allow an opening to steal the torch.  Perhaps if the mechanics are themselves droids, shorting out the droids or temporarily shutting off a power source (say by breaking a wire?) could work.  If the mechanics are human, do they have a lunch break?  Could a noise distract them?  No one is going to give you a blowtorch for less than the cost of buying one, but stealing one might work.  What about getting a job there or a uniform to sneak in?

2.  For a silly game, any ridiculous sized distraction could work.  Like blowing up the repair facility.  Or one could be under someone's pillow or other inappropriate place.  What if there was a blowtorch sale at the toy store?  Does that give some ideas?

3.  What is a blowtorch made of?  What are its components?  Could one be rigged together from parts?  If you find out (you could call a local provider or shop) what they're made of, what the fuel is, etc, you might have a start.  Also, why a blowtorch?  In an episode of Sam and Max, Max uses a microwave fruit-tart ("Caution, Insides Very Hot") too cut through a bar, blowtorch style.  What else is hot in a serious/silly way?  I don't know, but perhaps liquid nitrogen could work.  Or boiled plastic.  Etc, etc.

Pick the bits you like best.  I'm sure you can create an excellent puzzle that makes sense (within the logic of the game).

Thanks bspeers-o-matic for the suggetions. I have come up with a puzzle now. You will be in the credits for Special thanks.  :D
