well, have u listened to this new metallica song? i think it was released yesterday or today (or maybe before that)...
What do u think? will the old days come back? (btw, i don't think so)

Edit: WTF! I can't recognize any of the songs on Kazaa! "Invisible Kid"? ""Frantic"? HAS THE NEW ALBUM LEAKED OUT?

I dont think that they'll go back to what they were, although i've heard that its a bit heavier than their load stuff.

I was a huge metallica fan a while ago, but it jibbered away a bit - I still love the music though

Well I actually always much preferred the 'new Metallica', unlike almost everyone who listens to them. I like their more melodic side, stuff like 'The Unforgiven II', 'Nothing Else Matters', and the kind of middling-heavy stuff, 'Whiskey In The Jar', 'Fuel', 'Enter Sandman' and stuff. Apart from a few songs, the earlier thrashy stuff doesn't do a lot for me...so for me, a Metallica return to the roots is probably more a bad thing. Although I always appreciate their kickass guitar solos, hats off to that Kirk dude, he is a damn fine player.

first: Metalica rock
second: There last best album is black (S&M rocks but it dont count)
third: ST. anger has no guitar solos in the entire CD(and i hear you can bearly hear the guitars when they are playing)
ERGO: new album can be as heavy as it likes, but this album will suck.
final thoughts: if metalica dont go back to the good old days of black, ride the lightnig and reload they will loss a lot of fans

good old days of reload??? that was their last original album. Although it wasnt that bad, it certinley didnt compare to puppets and black. I like their heavier stuff better, but i do love black.

If they make a good album, I will eat my hat. Of course, I won't know anything about their new album since I'm not gonna buy it. Why? Because their albums have a long 13 year sucking tradition. Ride The Lightning rules, and everything they made since 1990 (including the Black Album) is crap.

Well, my favourite is Ride the Lightning, but I do appreciate most of the 'older' songs. Heck, my favourite one is Unforgiven II.

The new album is called st anger and the single (is that how u call it?) or teaser is called the same.
Where i live (in Argentina), there's one radio that passes every 2 hours or so, and not illegally, they received the single from the company (universal?)
The guy who presented the song for the first time said that a couple of hours before he, it was released in the US.
so probably u can download it from Kazaa.

The song is heavier than load and reload but it has nothing to do with ride the lightning or master of puppets... it's nice... that's the word. Nice song, but not for metallica.

After hearing both St. Anger and Frantic, I am very disappointed. Can this be the first Metallica album I won't own?

i really liked metallica back when i was a kid, it's been one of my favorite bands ever.
but seriously... some people don't seem to understand when it's time to quit. i honestly doubt they're just doing it for the music.
i know this issue is old and over-discussed, but just because they wrote excellent albums in the past doesn't exempt them from having to prove their worth again, just like any other band... and i don't want to judge the whole album before i hear it, but i'm highly sceptical

I may be one of the few people who really thinks that Metallica sounds more vicious than in a long time...(As you can see, my Avatar has already been influenced by the record...) I've listened to the soundclips on www.metallica.com, and the only thing that sounds bad to me is the sound of the drums. But otherwise, it sounds better than both Load and Re-Load. Appearantly they will have more progessive elements in the songs as well, which pleases me - Being a lover of "...And Justice For All"...

Still - I doubt they will ever return to the "good ole' days". But they might be going a small step in the right direction, though...

That is quite a big thing, as we all remember how much Ulrich added to the earlier albums.

Yeah, I don't know what Lars was thinking but he took a large metal snare and tuned it like you would a picallo. Which if it is a large wood snare doesn't sound all that bad but when it is metal you get a horrible ring that I think he somehow thinks is cool...Maybe his drum tech convinced him of it I dunno.

Anyways if they are trying to sound like there older metal days then it is pretty sad because all they are saying is metal is nothing but fast double bass rolls and ANGER!!! Which is incorporated a great deal into metal but is not what makes metal, metal.

Rincewind, it isn't a fact of intensinty and aggression alone. Fuel is a pretty intense song but it doesn't change the fact that it has song structure that has been used Five hundred thousand times. As well brings nothing interesting, new, innovative, creative, interesting to the floor. It is just GIMME FUEL GIMME FIRE GIMME THOU WHICH I DESIRE RAAAH! These new songs in style are much like the older days but music goes a lot deeper then just what is on the surface. The structure, the attitude, the message and the deeper signifigance of the song in a current artistic and cultural way are thhhpt in metallicas effort. Times when they would write music about horrible war crimes, self reflection when you are screwed up or those confusing feelings when you hit THE BOTTOM! Are replaced with blind shots of anger at nobody, Fast cars and just general empty hallow music.

It is what seperates an abstract painting from an amazing work of art and just splatters of paint on a canvas...It is the deeper emotion inside and behind it that makes or breaks it.

Though I admit I have not heard the full cd yet so it is wrong of me to say it is good or bad yet but what I have heard has left me none too impressed.

You know, I can stomach most of Metallica's music. But when I heard "St. Anger" on the radio the other day...I could barely stand it. It was horrible. Like others have said, it sounds like they're beating on oil barrels and I just can't get into it. I can get into most of their songs, but not this one.
