How big can the character be before it drastically slows down the game? Most of mine tend to be big anyway, in hi colour and 640 400 rez, my games are built/ran on two computers ones a crappy laptop that’s a 350mhz and 128ram the other is 800mhz with 192ram and both run the games fine, I’ve never had background animation as yet.
I’m not very good a pixel drawings, I look at and think, that aint right, add as few lines and end up 10 sizes bigger lol, my MAGS game the character is quite big, but only has a simple walk cycle, no background animation, my on going game I can’t decide which character to use the current one is fairly small, but the latest idea needs to be big for the detail

I don't think big characters are particularly slow, unless you use the transparency effect on them, then it'd get slow.

A large 640x480 style character shouldn't be too much of a problem.  As long as there aren't loads of them in the same room.
