AGS stock exchange

Maybe this should go in the competitions forum.

Anyway, I was thinking about how cool it would be if we had an AGSer's stock exchange! Of course real money wouldn't be used. We'd use "AGS dollars".

How it would work is that people could "buy" and "sell" shares of their favorite AGS games and their creators. As well as purchase shares of upcoming projects.

Creators could add their projects to the list and people could buy that game.  If the game is a hit players get "AGS dollars". If the game is a flop they lose AGS dollars.

Each person will start off with a set amount of AGS money. With that they can use it in the AGS stock exchange.  At the end of a month or whatever the person with the most "money" wins. People could keep track of their money just by writing it down, or even displaying it on their signature if they are on an ego trip. This game would be based on the player's honesty to tell the truth about their AGS wealth.

Anyway, this was just an idea for a fun board activity people could participate in.  What do you think?

You seem to be forgetting that capitalism is evil and that this is a socialist community.

Nothing in the universe is certain, probably.

Trapezoid

I think it's a nifty idea... Maybe it'll help some of us play the stock market in the future. Or something.

Renal Shutdown

Capitalism is evil.  We are socialist.  Everyone is equal..
However, CJ is more equal than the rest of us.

And it does kinda sound like fun.

What about the feelings of people whos games will be flopping (ie: mine)

n3tgraph

Nah, I don't think it's such a great idea

you will get an online game feel from it :)

I've lost enough money on the stock-market to buy the damn market...

Capitalism isn't evil. It's those evil socialists that tries to make us beleave that 'cos they are to lazy to study or work to earn lots of money themself, and 'cos they don't have any money, they don't think that anyone else shoud have either...

Otherwise it might be a god concept for a game, if you manage to terminate all ways of inside information that coud gain profit for a sertain person just because he knows that his good friend whose 'stock value' is very low soon will release the game of the century...

ha ha ha ha ha!!!
what an in depth political discussion! lol

im sure commys end up dong much more work, just not driven by greed. I mean if you had no choice but to work down a mine in a socialst regime
youd do it! and thats gotta be hard work! the diffrence is either you had no choice or [maybe a bit nieve] your doing it cos ur an anarchist and you believe everyone helping out to create a better society....

ha ha, anyway it was funny

I used to do Wall Street Sports and it was good fun. It would take a lot of setting up, though. You mean soimething like that or Celebdaq, no?

I can't even believe what I'm hearing.  You can't honestly say that capitalism is evil!!!!!!

Man 'o man you'll be hearing from my sister!

But this isn't a political debate thread, for goodness sake it's just a game I thought up. It isn't like you'd be losing real money.  I noticed that Hotshot said "what about the feelings of the people whos games are flopping?"

Regardless of wether that was a joke or not, it might serve as a good way for people to learn how to improve their games. When they see what games are hot and how people react to those games the makers can judge how to make their game better. This could be particularry useful to newbies.

okay so let's say: I've made a kick ass game and everybody loves it

I can sell shares of my game?
what profit would that be for me?

I think its a great idea but would only work if it was just harmless fun. For example, if someone had 99% shares in FoY, they didnt really. Its just fun. Y'know?

However, what would be a great game would be AGS top trumps.

For example;

ANDAIL
Personality 9
English 2

AGA
Personality 1
English 2

MY ANDAIL WHIPS UR AGA ASS WITH PERSONALITY!!!1

m0ds

Eggie

How about we have it set up so only people who have lots of AGS dollars can download AGS or AGS games.
And if they become overdrawn we hack their computers and delete everything!

...

You mean this isn't a communist forum?

Anyway, how would you decide which games are hits or flops? That could get a little unfair.

Someone could write this in AGS. This would be so cool. Maybe best to have objective numbers, though! Categories for stats could be:

a) Forum posts (at a given sample point)
b) Number of Games in games list page
c) Number of forums moderated
d) Number of AGS Awards
e) Number of Sprite-Jams/Background Blitz/etc. won
f) Number of plugins/AGS releases

So CJ would be best for (a), (c) and (f) but could be beaten by almost everyone on (b) and by lots of people on (d) and (e). Tierra and Chrille would be up there on (d)...

Nobody chooses wether games or hits or flops. The games speak for themselves as people download them.

Lets say m0ds puts shares of FoY up for sale on the AGS market.  If you think the game is going to be popular you can buy shares while they are dirt cheap.  If and when the game is a hit the price will go up and you can sell your shares for lots 'o AGS cash!

What is the benifit of this you ask? What is the benifit of the AGS awards?  I'm not slamming the awards, I'm just using them as an example. But since this is for fun does there have to be a prize?

Anyway, maybe we can give it a shot.

would it have to go onto a different site? Like, rather than a forum message, a site where you can view "stock members" info, and stuff. like a forum dedicated to this? I like the idea.
