anarchiST

Greetings, friends. This is AnarchiST from the creative collective known as Monotony Inc. We have been quite active in days of past, as crackers and distributors of applications for the AtariST as some of you might remember. We decided to break into game-making now that the cracking scene has deteriorated to nothing more than yet more breeding grounds for weakling fools with crooked ideology that perpetuate all the things Monotony Inc. set out to abolish in the first place, such as absolute freedom of information, and class awareness.

We present to you, an interactive foray into not some fairy-tale battling dragons and saving damsels in distress, and not some far-future technological adventure spanning galaxies, but rather a foray into the contemporary life of the working man. The program you are kindly asked to download in your computer, and execute has been in taxing production for more than 3 months, in which time, we have tried our best to incorporate in it's atmosphere and it's execution the modern drama of the life of an indescripable pleb, a nobody. A powerless man, made a thrall to a cooporation, made to execute the most base of tasks for the rest of his life.

No. This is not a 'game' per se, be not misled. We hope this will be an eye-opening experience, a revelation to the living hell we subject ourselves to, every passing day by kneeling to the will of the 'big bad boss' - we hope, most of all, that this will be an urging for people to WAKE UP!

Maybe we hope too much.

Maybe not...

We appreciate constructive criticism on our products, and will take any into serious consideration. So if you do have something to say about this or any other product of ours (we have not forgotten our past. If you happen to have come to any of our old ST disks, and you have any problems with it, do say so, we still support our young stuff, unlike the Pompey Pirates and others better left unnamed...) then do so in this thread. We will be prompt to reply. If however, you are a weakling fool, who's got nothing to say better to do than make petty stabs at us, then FUCK YOU! Jokers like you are what made the cracking scene into what it is now. So, DON'T BOTHER!

MillsJROSS

I'm hoping I was right in guessing that the box transference was the only thing there was to do, and by doing this you showed the complete and utter monotony that is work. If that is the point, as I think it is, then I say good job!

Helm

I would normally be amused by something like this, me being the creator of three Snail Quest games and everything, but I think you guys have completely misdirected your efforts. Make a real game next time. Last thing we need is more joke games.

Is there any point to it? I mean, graphically, its tops... But as far as gameplay, it's a bit like watching The English Patient...

MrColossal

hey anarchist, welcome

i enjoy Lorry Loader, the art is nicely done and i like the soundtrack

i'm taking you seriously [you have to understand, we get a lot of joke posts and all, i'm not meaning to offend] and i understand what you are going for.

i don't know if this will urge anyone to wake up, but i still enjoy where you are going.

this isn't so much a game as it is a comment

helm: he didn't say it was a game. and i believe it isn't a joke game. like i said, it's more of a commentary on their view of society.

dg: that is the point... the game play is terrible, because this person's life is terrible

the only problem i found with it is, well graphically, the box loses it's decal when he picks it up, but i know why you did that, and you can click on the box before it lands on the last platform and it will stop and the character will go over and pick it up, the gunshotanimation seems to go a little too fast

otherwise, good work

Get ready for another DGMacphee Long Winded Post (Patent Pending)...

To start, I'll say it again, the graphics are great... However I don't buy the 'comment' idea/excuse... Here's why:

Despite the fact that it's a comment, it doesn't make for a very interesting comment... Sure, it comments about the truth of mundane work in a souless society...

But then again, truth is available outside my bedroom window...

It takes 10 mins to download this 'comment' (I'm on a 33.6k)... Now, when you weigh it up, you have a choice of seeing something mundane that's outside your window, compared to wasting 10 mins to see something equally mundane...

It's like people paying $7-10 dollars to go see a movie, and the movie is nothing but this guy loading stuff on to his lorry... Only difference is you can ask for your $7 back, whereas I can't ask for 10mins back...

My point is this: People don't download 'mundane truth'... There's nothing to keep them interested... They go, 'Hmm... wow... yeah... ' and move on...

I don't feel for the main character, I don't care that he's got a mundane job, and I don't see any point to making a game out of it... If it were a game about a man who struggles to get out of the dull position he's in, I'd be interested... But why should I care if the main character doesn't care?

On the other hand, if I were playing Larry Vales or Pleurghburg, I'd care about what Larry or Jake does, and I'm sure a lot of people here do too...

Why?

Cause Larry and Jake have way more exciting lives than I do!

Cause they care about the work they do!

My life is nothing compared to Larry hunting down a killer robot or Jake McUrk trying to stop a cult... They make me say, "Wow that sounds interesting! I'll spend ten minutes or more downloading that, because it sounds worth it!" Both are detecives WANTING to crack their cases... They become involved and I become involved...

Even Captain Mostley RLBAT makes a better 'comment' game, because it's interesting to watch with has a great amount of hidden meaning...

But to spend 10 mins to download something that tells me exactly the same thing I could have found by looking out the window, it makes for a lot of time wasted...

Like I said, the graphics are great and the music is cool... But Helm does have a point, the talents of these guys are misdirected upon this...

I not trying to be negative on this... Just constructive in my criticism... The group has a great amount of potential... I mean, I consider this a prelude to something better, like it's a test/practise game...

Anyway, I've waffled on enough here... I'm starting to sound like Roger Ebert...

DGM, I'm with you on this. If I want a dose or reality, I can go down to the slums where people don't even HAVE a job to begin with. You can do the same.

But... maybe not everyone thinks the same. Many people here, priviledged people with computers in their warm houses could use 10 minutes wasted being reminded of something like that...

Then again, maybe not.

Oh shit! I'm starting to sound like Anarchist!

Aw come on. It's a nice game, sure there is not much point to it, but it made me laugh at least. Like Snail Quest and those hour games.

AnarchiST: Minor criticism:
+ The crate losing the decal when you pick it up is a little annoying, though I understand why you didn't make 5 different walking animations just for that. *shudders*.
+ You really should've made it impossible to pick a crate up before it's stopped. That wouldn't have taken long to code. Especially considering it took you 3 MONTHS!
+ As Eric said, the death animation could use at least one more frame.

Overall, I like it still.

MrColossal

like i said, it isn't going to make anyone wake up to anything

and true, to download a file this large and that is the only content is quite annoying... then again... make the file twice as big, and add a 5 minute load time and really give the player a feeling of boredome

as for the decal on the crate, you can fake that, by making each decal a seperate image and just overlay it over the crate with scripting, i'm not going to go into detail here

i too also see this as a test game, a "hello ags how are you" game

i look forward to seeing what you can do

I thought this game was pretty cool. Heh, I only got a score of 30 before I gave up. But I will win, I'll try again later! Maybe, if I can load more boxes faster, then my boss will give me a raise.

I got 8 before I had to end it all. Kudos to you Ionias, must have been a fun evening :)

Oh, I get it. You're supposed to put the crates IN the truck!

Nice game, but I don't understand why a simple paragraph to announce your game wasn't used, but a three page essay was? :p
