Heh, that reminds me of a nice quote I grabbed off of a Fark flamewar (after someone was bashing Americans...)
QuoteThat's right, Americans are stupid.
Which is proven by the fact that we harnessed electricity, pioneered modern mass-production, invented the microchip, then personal computers, and ultimately facilitated the development of the Internet, all so foreigners could log on and tell us how stupid we are.

Timosity

Then those silly Japanese people came along and made it with quality

yea it's a joke, poking fun at the fact that raggit says that america is all about free speech when this board is not america

but it takes the spanish to create the ZUMEX MOVIL!

it has a sink in it!! A SINK!

NOTE to ERIC
Man, it took me like 3 hours to finish this...and it's four in the morning now...I gotta go. But I wrote some stuff here that might be confusing. I'm not very good with expressing my feelings (putting them into words) and having them come out correct. I realize what started this whole thing between us. It was when I said, "What I don't like about particluar gay men, is when they act like they are a woman, talk like one, their actions, dressing like women.". I know that's what started you off. But I try to express what the hell I mean...so hopefully you can see my side a bit. Goddamn, man, I hate fighting. The thing that started it all between you and I I think, was that fucking RAP comment I said a long time ago back on the EZBoard forums...where you reemed me a new ass. So now I supposed I'm a major ass in your eyes? I hope not, but for some reason I've been getting that feeling ever since. I'm half alseep so I'll finally post this damned hting.

Eric, I think you might be overreacting a bit.

Quoteyou think men should act a certain way and women should act a certain way?
Where did I ever fucking say MEN should be beer drinking sloths who love sports and know everything about mechanics? I didn't. And I for one am nothing like that. I hate that stereotypical shit as much as you do.
Look, I'm not hear to argue with you. But you've got to try to understand what I'm trying to say. I'm not as good with words as everyone here, I always get shit jumbled up and my theories/thoughts sometimes don't come out the way I'm feeling them.

You're shooting your mouth off at me like I said I hate gays and they all should be killed. I never in any way said that. I already explained that I don't mind gay men, they are who they are and that doesn't bother me, I don't give a flying circus monkey fuck if they're gay or not! They are just as much human/man as me, they just love different. I love woman, they love men. So what?
Don't you see? We're on the same side here, man, all I said was that I find it unsettling to see two gay men kissing or walking around with make-up on. I just don't like it. Why am I wrong? I can't not like that? I can't have an opinion about gay men wearing make-up? I see where you're coming from though, with the stereotype, where "men aren't supposed to wear make-up and wear dresses", but think beyond that. I'm not saying they should be in tattered jeans and wear t-shirts with grease all over them carrying a toolbox. In my opinion, men just don't look good in make-up.
Same thing about women. I don't like it when they shave their head or cut their hair real short, gay or not. I just don't find that attractive, so am I a  stereotype because I personally find women more attractive with longer hair? I didn't think so before, but maybe I am, eh?

Quotebeing a MAN is having an x and y chromosome.
Exactly, that's what I meant when I wrote:
QuoteYou might be gay and love men, but you're still a MAN.
I didn't mean MAN as in the stereotype MAN, "Sweaty/dirty mechanic who loves sports". Man as in MALE, having a penis.

Quotewhy does there have to be these preconcived notions of what a man is?
I don't know. I didn't make up that rule, but I like I said before, I agree with you, it's stupid. It's something that's been around forever, through generations and generations. I DON'T KNOW, man. I also hate it when you watch TV sitcoms and all you see are the stereotype MAN as the husband...beer drinking, slug, loves cars and sprts and all that junk. They're all the same. It's been here since the beginning of time, where woman did nothing but make babies while man killed dinner. I think women should be able to do whatever the hell they want, work wherever they want and so on. I'm on the same page as you.

Quotei don't know how to fix a car and i've never even driven one. i like the colour purple and i like tori amos. i don't like body hair and i hate shaving, i like teddy bears and hugging my girlfriend and i hate sports. I have slim wrists and i wear a lot of bracelets sometimes, many of them are rainbow coloured. am i still a man? if you say yes then look at this
Now what do you say?
I've seen that before ;)
Now a little about me. I don't know anything about:
Cars
Trucks
Mechanics in general
Sports
Hunting
Guns
Wildlife
The Wilderness
Technical computer stuff
Tools
I like:
video games
adventure games
purple
I think rainbows are pretty cool
engaging in a nice conversation with a woman instead of just thinking about sex (the stereotype"sex sex sex!!")
orchestraic music
classic piano music
sunsets
multicolored christmas lights
I have slim wrists, long hair and I can't even grow a damned mustache. How's THAT for goofyness?
Quoteedit: oh yea, and overly masculine guys going to beaches and looking at girls and making cat calls and punching people and people who get way to into sports games and fight over football... these people make me uncomfortable, shouldn't they have to censor themselves too? why just gay people?
I don't know, I'm not at the head of this shit. Probably everything has gone the way it has because GAY has always been looked down upon since the beginning of time. Back then it wasn't normal, it was different and wrong. So the "wrongness" of being gay has been past down through the years to be a terrible thing and it should be cencored and children should be taught that it is wrong and all that hooplah...which isn't right.
I'm on the same page as you, Eric, I just think make-up/dresses (anything that's usually found on a woman) doesn't look good on men (that's totally my opinion!!! Just like if I said I don't like the color GREY). But I also agree with you that they should be able to do that if they want. If they like that stuff, than great, they should feel free to do it. Another point I was trying to make before was that being happy and open about your sexuality is fine, but there is a respect and decency thing too. They should have the respect and decency for the people that don't want to see that...men AND women. Just like a man and a woman rounding second base on a park bench where people walk by all the time. Not everyone's gonna want to see that, some will be discusted...some wouldn't care, some may laugh. Me, I don't care. I don't care what they do, I've said it a hundred times already. Two gay guys can make out all they want, but I'd rather not see it.
... do you kinda see what I mean?
Why am I your target anyway? Why did you choose me to blow up on just because I said I don't like to see men dressed as women? You could have calmly said, "Yeah but Snake, I don't understand why GAYs should be thought of like that and be censored by everybody where there should be needed cencoring elsewhere..." or something along those lines.
I don't know. I'll continue this tommorrow, it's too late for this, I gotta sleep,

Let me leave you alone and end this sharade with this quote of mine:
QuoteI'm not attracted to men, so I think it's unsettling, but at the same time I don't care. They're still human beings, blood/bones/emotions/opinions so they can do whatever the hell they want.

EEP!

woah man, quite a post. well first off i just wanna say that i hold no grudge against you or anger towards you or anything. and i thought i blew up at raggit and not you. i told raggit to shut up [sorry r] that was me blowing up. i thought i was just commenting on what you said.

i don't know what i can do to bury a hatchet that was never uprooted with you. do you know how long ago that post about rap was? the beginning of our stay on the YABB forums.

no worries sucka. i've said that many times, no worries.

as for your points. Snake, i think you might be overreacting a bit, hehe

what you wrote and what you mean i think are two different things but only through lack of explaination. now that things are explained better i understand what you are trying to say. you have to give me that what you first wrote was pretty general and that i wasn't stretching to make you a bad person

i thought that the addition of the terribly scary picture of me grabbing my friend's ass would help to cool and badness that may be interpreted from my post.

i didn't choose you to blow up on. raggit had stopped posting and then you posted and i disagreed with something you said, so i posted. it's not like there was a large group of people i singled you out of. i don't hate you and i don't think you're stupid, i respect you as a fellow agser and as a very good artist.

and just to clarify some things:

not all men who wear make up are gay [some are goths! oh dip!]
not all men who wear "women's" clothes are gay [some are goths! oh dip!]
a large majority of gay men don't prance and call eachother girlfriend.
there were gay people a long time ago and they had gay sex all the time.
The Greeks.

it's almost 5 so i'm cutting this short but...

BWAHAHHAHAH! you can't grow a mustache!!!

i kid because i was never angry in the first place.

5am i have to go

I don't have a problem with gay people. But to tell you the truth, I am more disturbed about gay men than gay woman, being that I am a man, and of course I love women. I think they are the most beautiful creatures to walk the face of the earth. It's something to see two woman kissing and holding hands...it's a turn on. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not attracted to men, so I think it's unsettling, but at the same time I don't care. They're still human beings, blood/bones/emotions/opinions so they can do whatever the hell they want. Same thing goes with strait women, I'm pretty sure that some think the same way as I do, they aren't attracted to women, so they find it a little unsettling to see two women kissing, doing whatever.

What I don't like about particluar gay men, is when they act like they are a woman, talk like one, their actions, dressing like women. You might be gay and love men, but you're still a MAN. You're of the male gender, why must you "prance" around and make me and a lot of other people feel unconfortable? I know we must except them for who they are, and I agree of course, but they should also understand that not everyone is comfotable about seeing that. Gay men might be all happy and comfortable with expressing their sexuality, but not everyone wants to whitness it. This I can't explain because I'm not gay myself. If I were gay I'd probably act the same way. So I don't know.

One show I do not approve of is that new one, don't know what it's called, but I heard about it. It revolves around this group of gay men that go around changing as many strait men as they can find and turn them gay (I'm just damned sick of these stupid reality shows). Why turn a strait man gay, or even a gay man strait, leave them be. They are who they are.

Tell me off if you must, if I offended you.

BUT GAY MEN HAVE DISEASES!

Trapezoid

I know what Snake is saying. He just thinks "camp" homosexuals are annoying dinkweeds. And they are. :)

Hobbes

Somehow this thread is reminding me of a song by Joe Jackson called "Real Men". It describes this topic really well, I think.

However, I also hate those stereotypical TV programmes. I'm gay, don't know a thing about fashion, abhor any kind of make-up (ok... deodorant and aftershave is a concession). I also happen to like Tori Amos, but I don't like Madonna.

So wahey, I kinda don't fit the stereotype pattern. And for that I'm glad, because I think 90% of the gay people don't fit this pattern. Else, I think we would see a lot more of gay people on the street.

Come on. Sexuality can be such a barrier for some people (homophobia being but one small example). But, aren't we all just people? I don't think the stereotypical prancing gay guy is something that should cause such violence in people. I mean, sure, people may find it annoying, but if that person decides to look and act like that, so what?

You won't find me straight-bashing. Even though those typical straight guys who talk about "women" as if they're objects and drinks loads 'a beer *do* annoy me. But then again, I also find them a bit humourous. :)

SSH

I'm fed up of all the bigotophobia around these days. I'm a bigot, and you don't find me knocking people just because they are tolerant. Just because I have a strong opinion about shirt-lifters don't condemn me. What I think should be done to evil woffters in the privacy of my own mind is my own business. I think those who attack me for my bigotry are just afraid to face up to their own prejudices.

So, I see the thread has gone in another direction, but i dont mind, cause, like somepone earlier said, it became an interesting discussion.

First to get  this laptop deal clear! I heard about it, and it involved students or something, so dont blame me, and dont think i'm some fool who believes everything he hears, i just wanted to hear what do you know about it.

And Americans arent the only people that invented transistors computers and all, what i mean that the people behind all that are not always americans by nationality. The term Americans are dumb is partially true, because, as you normal class? Americans(no offense) are always exposed to the brutallity of lies from the medias... and i'll continue later when i learn some more english, i have holes in my english thoughts, just dont take me wrong.

And about those tv shows, damn now i just forgot what was i going to say! I left empty space to write after i finish the part with the americans, and now i just forgot...argh.

I think i need some kind of book like that bee(Terry?) from Grim Fandango has.

Destruction of stereotypes... I'm all for it.  I have to give Snake a bit of back-up here first.  It makes me a bit uncomfortable to see two guys kissing.  I was raised in a profoundly Christian home going to a church with no tolerance for homosexuality.  I was never around homosexuals (that I knew of) as a child.  Therefore, I find it a little embarassing.  I can't really help the way I was raised.

Before anyone throws me off a tall cliff so I can fly through the air and have my body crushed and battered on the rocks along with Snake...  I'm pretty uncomfortable when watching a Man and Woman make out in front of me too..  just not used to seeing intimacy in public, in my presence, I guess.

By the way, Dude, Where's My Car was quite the lame movie, but during the male-kissing scene, all I could think was, "Rock on."  Given the context, it was quite amusing.  I also have to give some credit to the two actors (neither of which are gay) who had the balls to do that.

Now back to the stereotype.  I live near San Francisco (within 30 miles) and have done so for about 20 years.  I think I've seen two men hold hands in public twice now.  For a city that is supposed to be filled to overflowing with gay males, it seems unusual that not much of the population wears blinding colors, spends hours on their hair, or speaks with a lisp.  Go figure.  Maybe the approximated 30% homosexual population of the San Francisco Bay Area are all hiding in gay-bars or something.

Personally, I find being in the presence of a stereotypical male is a lot more irritating than being around a flamboyant homosexual.  I have friends in both groups but at least I don't have to discuss motorcycle engines, getting drunk or about how fine the ass of the woman who just passed it.  My gay friend, strangely enough, has never made a sexual comment in public or spoken with a lisp for the 10 years I've known him.

Hmmm, maybe they all moved to West Hollywood, or "boy's town" as it's referred to.

And anyway, I think the popular stereotype of gay men has changed to big muscular men with pretty faces. Camp is still around, but it's not as common, and definately not as attractive (it's another stereotype that gay men have a huge sex drive, even moreso than straight horny teenagers. Well, on par at least).

No uh it was generally accepted then (ie in the times of ancient Greece and Rome which I think is what eric was referring to), and it probably all changed when Christianity became established in those areas. But that was also a long time ago. Bah I dunno, I guess it's not important.  :)

Timosity

I grew up next door to a Lesbian, she only came out when she was about 25 (about 3 years ago) It didn't surprise me at all, she's a blonde surfer chick, that always seemed to like blokey type stuff. She's quite attractive too. (she's got a butch girlfriend [seems too stereotypical])

I live in Sydney, which has quite a large gay population, and it is noticable in some areas of the city, it's quite normal to see guys holding hands, kissing, slapping arses (girls too, pitty I have no chance with them, I guess 2 of them could be bi [you can only dream{unless you're a porn star, or just really lucky}])

It's a lot more socially acceptable for homosexual people to roam the streets and just behave like any other couple these days, I guess that helps people get used to it all, so it just becomes a part of life and people will eventually get on with there lives and classification of sexual preference will become something people won't even think about.

But for it to happen on a global scale, I guess it'll take forever, mainly due to narrow minded people, and some religions, but oh well, you can't change peoples minds for them (unless you're a good hypnotist)

It's a gradual process, like women becoming more accepted in the business world, It's come a long way.

It's probably easier to be gay in Sydney than to be an Aboriginal person that's family has lived here for thousands of years, pretty sad really, it's like being an American Laptop.
