What the crappy heck??

What is halloween for a kinda sucky holiday!! I wanted to take my rest, and then some stupid children, but even more stupied so called fearful clothes on, ring the bell, and sing a song (well they forgot the text, but anyway), and then ask for candy?? What the crap I say to them, you outta your mind! You wake me up for that I say! So I grabbed their little butts, and shove them off of my lawn! Well my mum and dads lawn, but I'm sure they would have done the same!

Oh and by the way... I just hate halloween, because I'm a christian... does that makes any sense? No, to you, Yes to me... so put a lock on this topic, because halloween is crap.  :-X

ps : Do you like scary movies?

Rincewind

Aye - Happy Halloween, y'all! Even if I can't really identify with all this craze around the whole holiday, it's a bit fun, I can admit that...
Boo and stuff.

...Now, let's all get to our VCR's and insert "A Clockwork Orange", righty-right, O my brothers and only friends?
And then we'll have some eggiewegs and a bit of moloko plus on top of that, eh?

DragonRose

HAAALOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!

CANDY!

COSTUMES!

SUGAR RUSH!!!!!!!!!

I'm the exact opposite of Minimi. I loooooove Halloween!  So far this year I've already had four costumes- The HumaniNinja (for a faculty dress up thing), dead student (for a haunted house) Medeival Lady (quick costume for residence trick or treating) and Scottish Lady(just for wearing around school today).  I even had a sexy super-hero costume planned for going clubbing this evening, but unfortunatly the eyelets for lacing up the tights started popping out  :(

So I vote for don't lock the topic!  Let the Halloweeny joy flow!

Clockwork Orange is such a sick movie, rincewind!! And you are sick too!even better, the whole world is sick... now that I think of it, it might be just me :p

Anyway... When I watched that movie, I thought it would be a fun movie to watch, because it's pretty old, and I never expected to see these horny figures pop up!

ps : Please do lock the topic, because someone who is dumb enough to even buy costumes, is only a void, and does not count for voting on weither to lock this or not, so Dragonrose, go buy with all your money stupid costumes, and then I'm going to bed... :P

minimi you stick in the mud, Halloween in a bit of fun..

remixor

What on Earth actual reason is there to lock this thread??   ???  Minimi, you're not making any sense.

Anyway, I can see where some people wouldn't like A Clockwork Orange, but it really is a truly excellent film as long as you don't assume it's actually promoting rape and extreme violence.  I'm not sure what it has to do with Halloween, though.

Well, it might be sick, but I just think it's a damn good movie. It's thought-provoking, you might say... I just love it, to be honest.

And no - I don't go out beating up old drunkies with my droogs during my spare time either.
No, Really!  I do know most of the lines by heart, though... Ahem... :)

"Vidy well, little brother - Vidy well!"

EDIT:
Ah, Remixor beat me to point there - If you actually find the violence and rape appealing in ACO, then, well... Somethings not right...
Me, I like it because it shows the transformation of Alex from a freely thinking psychopath into a law-abiding but brain-washed citizen. The question you have to face is: Which is better?
And yes, we are straying from the topic. Forget ACO now and have a Happy Halloween!

the Halloween movies seem to be all over TV tonight. I'm watching Halloween 5 right at this moment. Well not really watching, but listening since i'm watching my monitor.

I live in an apartment, so that pretty much means no trick or treaters.

I usually enjoy Halloween, but tonight I'm just plain depressed. I have nothing to do.

Minimi:

I'm an amateur historian ... so I know the origin of Halloween.  However, as with most things from the 'old world', we Americans adapted Halloween in the early colonial days to suit or 'new world' ways.

Now-a-days it simply is a day for our young-folk (and those of us young at heart) to get away with dressing up and acting silly and what's more?  We get candy!!

It's innocent and doesn't have the evil or satanic conotations that it used to.  At least for most of us ... there are those that celebrate All Hallow's Eve old school and dress in black and hold dark masses in the forest ... but hey, to each their own!

Rince & Remixor:

A Clockwork Orange was/is a groundbreaking triumph in movie making.  I remember the first time I watched it (before I really got into movies) I thought I was watching a porno ... it just is so off the wall and sexually charged.   But (as Rince said) enough about ACO!!

Trap
Alcohol ... always does the trick!!  (if you're of age of course!!)

Whenever I don't have a Halloween costume I tell people that I'm dressed up like my twin brother!  What a cop-out!!!

It sounds as if Minimi is on drugs again.  Why in the world should this topic be locked?  Because some Christians are too ignorant to tolerate the celebration of another religion's holiday?  I rent out the basement of a very Christian family and often read to their children.  About a month ago they asked me to read a book about the different holidays that occur over the course of the year.  The book attempted to cover a range of cultures and religions and the children were relatively receptive to all of the different customs (although they giggled at Ghanesh) but when I came to Halloween they asked me to skip it.  Why?  Because they had been taught that Halloween is sinister.   The last time Halloween fell on a sunday my town had it bumped ahead to Saturday because it was felt that its themes somehow were inappropriate for the Sabbath.

I'm not precisely sure what religious significance Halloween has.  My g/f is Wiccan (sp?) and she was describing it to me as a day when the barrier between life and death was the thinnest so that the presence of those that had passed could be felt more than usual.  Its a good thing because it allows us to be closer to our dead loved ones.  That was my intrepretation anyway.

Religion aside, Halloween is great.  It was easily my favourite day of the year as a child.  Putting on a costume is fun.  It doesn't make a person a void.  All of my costumes as a child were homemade at first my mother but later by my brother (when he became too old that he needed to celebrate vicariously through me).

Only bad part of Halloween is that it occurs to late in the year so that its quite cold (at least in Canada).  Nothing ruins a great Lieutenant Worf costume like having to wear a winter coat on top of it.

Halloween is a Christian holiday that was created to draw people away from the pagan holiday to celebrate the equinox or the solstice or whatever the hell it is that happens in fall called Samhain. Nowadays, all it means is dressing up and eating candy. It has no religious meaning.

Minimi, if you don't like this thread, don't read it. Simple as pie. Please don't ruin everyone else's fun by posting 'this thread must be locked!!'

Now I'm off to eat candy.

Yeah you could be on to something, Pestilence.  Maybe Samhain is what she was talking about.  I think a few Christian holidays coincide with other religious holidays to steal their part of the calendar.

Squinky

Look at me everybody, I'm dressed up as MiniMe!!! Woo!!!

"Grrrr, the mere thought of fun would taint our souls! Stabbeth the evil doers! "

The way I look at it, halloween is what you make of it. It dosen't have to be evil, or satanic, or smelly and uncle-like....

YakWork

To further make the point, Christianity doesn't have a single nationally-recognized holiday that wasn't distorted or moved to coincide with a previously "Pagan" holiday.  I can't remember exactly when, but I believe Christ's birth was actually in the late summer, early fall.

However, there are those who rant about Halloween and get genuinely pissed when Christmas is written as X-Mas.  They say that we're "X'ing-out" the Christ in Christmas.  However, the ignorant assholes don't know enough to figure out that the first letter in Christ in greek is "X," making X-Mas merely an abbreviation (Much like C-Mas would be).  I'm not trying to divert this into other holidays or a discussion of religion, it just irritates me when people become judgemental.  It's tiresome.. if you don't like it, don't do it.  If you don't believe in pre-marital sex, don't screw till you're hitched.  Why the hell do you have to bitch and moan at everyone else?  :-\
