The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

This is an unofficial prequel of the famous Space-Quest series. Playing Roger's parents it's up to you to save the legend. Decisions of the Elders is a full length (about 30 rooms) retro game (320x200 EGA graphics, AGI fonts) with challenging puzzles. But don't worry! Even though this game is a tribute to the beloved Sierra adventure games there are no dead ends. And there is a walkthrough included in the download package! Ready for free download at: https://bostonmcshew.gamejolt.io/dote or https://bostonmcshew.itch.io/dote If you loved the old Sierra adventures there's a really good chance for you to like this game! Love it, feels very Space-Quest-esque with beautiful terrain and some interesting puzzles. Fairly linear gameplay, but a nice score system. Recommend this one.

Except for some few annoying (illogical) puzzles I had a really great time playing this one. I love the choice of the SCIV-like graphics (I always been a fan of SQ3) and the enviorment looks really good. This is truly a worthy addition to the SQ-series!

Space Quest: Decisions of the Elders is a inch for inch prequel to the popular series Space Quest created by Sierra. Following in the same vein as King’s Quest and Leisure Suit Larry will bring fans back to a point of happiness again. Those new to the genre may feel a bit lost by the simplicity of controls and lack of a tutorial, will later find it renewed through witty charm, tongue in cheek dialogue and well constructed gameplay that fits perfectly amongst its endeavors.

Let me just say to the author: It WAS worth your 2000 something hours of work!!!

Thank you for providing such a great game for retro-adventure lovers everywhere!

(The credits song is also an inspiration in itself for all us budding but aging game creators. I suspect it was for you too!)

Beautifully done!!!

It's great you are taking the time to improve this game.
Old games exist forever and when the original author still
cares and over time has probably become more experienced as well,it has to be a good thing.

This game has cool retro-style graphics. I enjoyed that the puzzles had just enough hints to get you through without frustration. It took me about an hour to complete the new section of the game. Add to that the cute humour and story and you'll likely find this game to be worthwhile.

I'm waiting for the fun to continue in the final installment!

Well, it's a nice SQ try. Graphics are well done. Dialogue / narration is rather good. But seriously, you could have gone "the extra mile"and provided some good death sequences for Ro.. i mean Jerry. OF COURSE he should have been eaten by termites the moment he crossed their track, OF COURSE he should have been pulled under by some (ridiculous) alien creature the moment he touched the water, and OF COURSE it should have been possible for him to fall off the cliffs. Some unexpected twists / deaths in the game would have been nice as well.
