The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

Three men of loose virtue are enjoying a drink in a local tavern, when they overhear the story of a rich and feeble old man who lives in town. They soon plot to take his treasures...

This is a very short (and free) interactive adaptation of The Terrible Old Man, a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. The game was originally released back in 2015 - it was made in 30 days for the MAGS competition.

This Steam re-release features polished graphics, additional content, new music and Steam achievements!

Features:

- An adaptation of the classic H.P. Lovecraft short story.
- Traditional point and click adventure interface.
- Unsettling hand drawn graphics and animation.
- Fully animated cut scenes.
- 640 x 360 widescreen resolution.
- HORROR!

I just found there is a Fan translation of this game made by the guys from Clan Dlan (site now gone). In their archives is still available https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VAtBZcx2e5bqyGvd-VONAXZ7V3vdwnH0/view

I don't know if it's for the Steam version or this one, i tested with the Steam one a little bit and it works.

An effective tribute to HP Lovecraft

This is more a short story adaptation than a game with actually just one real puzzle. It has a nice atmosphere with great use of dialog portraits.

Nice little MAGS game that makes you wish there was more to it. The way the portraits move while they're talking is pretty haunting, and it fits the game well...creepy.

An excellent adaptation of H.P.Lovecraft's short story. This proves how video games are powerful in terms of expression, and accessible. Writing a short story or a novel IS almost not so different from making a video game. The difference lies in what way the reader or the player experiences the story.

A fairly good very short and a mysterious artistic story game

Lovely atmosphere and graphics, a bit to short, which is always a good sign. ;-)
