The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them
ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you
think your game has been under-rated!
| 1 Cup | Not serious entertainment |
| 2 Cups | A reasonable game, worth a try |
| 3 Cups | A good game, worth playing |
| 4 Cups | A great game, well worth your time |
| 5 Cups | An outstanding, must-play game! |
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common
for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having
a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just
getting started!
Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game
The game follows Frank O'Shea, A soldier on a peacekeeping mission. He is shot in the line of duty and blacks out. He awakens to find himself wounded and in a strange, but somehow familiar town. You must act as Franks guide as he tries to remember what has brought him here. Welcome to Purgatorio…10 people commented on this game (newest first):

Due to many comments from the AGS community, who's expertise I respect and due tot the fact that I played throught the game again today, I have decided to move this game to the Short Game category. The bad grammer is staying in though.

Great game, amazing graphics, especially due the fact they were made by one person. Should really be in the short game section though.

Impressive art in this game, especially considering it was designed and developed my one person. However solid the author's skill might look, I have to agree with others that the games does feel pretty empty and I think that made the story seem weak. The ending was too in-your-face, sort of as a device to avoid giving any answers to all the questions and dilemas posed through the game.
I liked the keypad puzzle, even though it got a bit on my nerves at one point; right before I solved it. The rest of the puzzles were too simple, though.
Also, there are quite a few minor grammar and spelling mistakes spread over the scarce dialogues. I think that for your portfolio you'll want to fix that, as well as to make the character walk faster (at least make that an option). Also, what's the point of the records you recently posted? That seems like an attempt to add a new dimension to a character that is just a plot device. That seems to go against the just-a-trial non-plot of the game. Or have I missed something?
Even though my critics are mostly negative, I'd love to see more from this author. I'd go as far to say that recycling this game's artwork and adding a thicker plot would make for an excellent game.
Finally, I think this game should go in the short games category, as leaving the walking aimlessly in circles aside, it can be completed in 20' or so.

If anyone has played the game and is interested they can download the records and see what the actually said here (500kb):

I know it seems like something that should be in the game but I didn't think of it until a friend asked me what the hell they said. Thanks again.

An interesting game. There's obviously been a *lot* of effort put into the graphical side of the game, but the in-game text makes for a game world that is a bit too sparse - such effort in making a beautiful game world is, therefore, defeated, because it feels empty (which is ok, it fits the story) and like cardboard (which isn't ok). In fact, added to the character's slow walking speed, it feels as though you're playing a game where you have to watch a character *slowly* move around without much to do at all.
Curiously enough, the few dialogs in the game are surprisingly good, so it's not a lack of talent or work. Maybe it was even a design choice. At any rate, I didn't much care for it - others might.
Overall - short story (much too short), but well told, with a lot of work put into it.

Great Graphics, some of the best ever. Awesome tone and music. I enjoyed all the puzzles except the riddle thing, as is I don't think the riddle has enough information hinting towards the code. I was also a bit disappointed with the story.
**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I wanted to find out who the people in the town were, what was going on in the town, and I was really looking forward to reading the journal. I thought it would lead up to some big secret or something, and everything being done ended up just being a test for Frank to get into heaven and nothing more. It made the story seem somewhat shallow to me.
**END SPOILERS**
Overall it's a very good game and I think everyone should play it.

This is a game of mine,
I created it as part of a project for college. The filesize is quite big but I believe the visual elemt of the game is worth it. The game world is made up entirely of photos of my home town and the main character is me, both heavily photoshopped to fit in with a common visual style. The music is all original and Copyright to Jonathan Lynch (That's me). I'm very happy with the puzzles and the way the gameplay turned out and I hope you will enjoy playing it. Thanks.
