Hey Guys,
I have been having an issue with AGC, whenever I go and test my game, it tells me the game engine wasn't shut down properly. I close the program and re-open it, same thing. I restart my computer and load my game again, same thing.
I just want to be able to test my game out every so often.
Any help would be appreciated.
Well, regardless of what that message says, does the game run properly?
When I can get the game to run, it's fine. I mean I've barely done anything to it, I've just loaded a Dot GUI and imported my sprites over the top of the old ones.
Usually it will tell me that the game engine hasn't shut down properly as a prompt when testing the game, and it doesn't actually let you into the game.
Sounds like you might have the mysterious Test Game bug that seems to affect some people at random.
The workaround is to save the game, then run the EXE manually from the game's Compiled folder to test it. Sorry, this has been investigated several times and we've been unable to find out what causes the Test feature not to work for some people.
I have been trying to delete it so i can start over, but the main file, agsedit.exe won't delete. Says it's being run by another program, when it's not.
I figure that could have something to do with it all.
Making a new instance of ags also doesn't work.
Works fine on my laptop, but the laptop is falling to pieces, so i don't really want to work on it.
Ctrl + Alt+Delete then kill it .

So, have you tried what Pumaman suggested?, i.e.:

Yeah, and that doesn't work, the executable runs, but literally pops up and dissapears.
I've got it working now though, it sucks though, I have to run AGS through my laptop accross the network.
Still don't know why it gives me dramas on my pc though.
Ah well, I can work around it i guess.
In that case you may try upgrading DirectX and/or video card drivers and/or sound card drivers and see if that helps.
Sometimes it's quite hard to track down such problems, maybe trying different setting combinations can help too (like for example disabling music/sound in the game's setup, setting up the game to run in another resolution, or dis/enable acceleration for video/sound in DirectX, etc.).
