Title: Illegal Exception report
Post by: Totoro on Sun 10/04/2005 16:57:44
Normally I would not write about bugs here, but the error massage told me to report it to CJ here on the technical forums, so...
I was playing "Stan's Revenge". I brought the garbish outside, used it with the "dog droppings" and wanted to head back into the house, then the game broke up and told me...

---------------------------
Illegal exception

An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x0A41677B ; program pointer is +200, ACI version 2.62.772, gtags (0,2)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

Most versions of Windows allow you to press Ctrl+C now to copy this entire message to the clipboard for easy reporting.

In general, problems with specific games should be reported to the game author.

But obviously AGS shouldn't crash like that. Unfortunately, without having the game's source code, it's rather hard to pinpoint where the problem could be.
We had a few reports about program pointer +200 (namely here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=19631), here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=19880), here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=18532), here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=19770) and here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=18506)) but the users haven't reported back.

Hmm, +200 means the crash happened within the room loading code.

Did the crash happen just once, or does it happen every time you get to that point in the game?

Mmmh, I would have reported it only to the game author, but since the error message told me to report it to CJ on the technical forums...
It's very strange but the error only occured onece and when I try to do it again, it works finde....

Hm...I've readen the topic 3 times carefully now. Now, I just want to confirm this:

You were playing "Stan's Revenge".
You got out of the house.
You used the garbage with the droppings.
You got the droppings
You entered the house.
And saw that message?

Are you sure you didn't do anything else?

Well of course I clikced around a lot to find more hotspots but there were not any... and I tried to put the garbage in the trash can directly, which does not work
