Well i had just recieved a Dell axim X30 (Pocket PC) for Christmas and
i was thinking 'Wow now i can load my game onto this and
show all my friend or play games on the go, but to my
dissapointment it would'nt run.
I would realy enjoy a feature in ags where you are able to
save you'r game for windows (desktop version) or windows
mobile.
I know its alot to ask with allegro's stuff en' all but and i know
many others would be most pleased.

Heh. I keep saying someone should make a sticky about porting AGS to any other system, be it DreamCast, mobile, PDA, Mac, or whatever, but no one will listen and things will now get repeated... ::)

What i meant was that thread explains the downsides of pocket pc gaming (Different Resolutions etc)

No, it's not about PocketSCUMM. It's about making original adventure games for handhelds. I used PocketSCUMM as a case study to investigate the possibilities and limitations of making and playing adventures on a mobile device.
I'm pleased that you're requesting this, because it demonstrates how there is a demand for a way to create adventure games for handhelds. However, this question has already been asked and answered when it comes to AGS. Unless someone ports Allegro or CJ finds a way to get away from the dependency, it's not going to happen. I think we should look for alternative solutions.

Actually the PocketPC, specifically, avoids many of those problems. It has a known resolution that works great with classic VGA-style games, it can easily be tipped over, and it has both touchscreen/stylus and hardware buttons. I prefer to think of the issues as challenges rather than downsides. It is my firm belief that it is possible to create great adventure games for handhelds that play well and use the differences in the platform to their advantage.

Also, it's simply not practical for me to maintain loads of different ports of AGS. Bear in mind that PocketPC's can have three different CPU architectures so it would have to support all of them to be properly portable, and the current design of AGS doesn't lend itself well to a compact PC environment.

Try over at the RON site, most of the early RON games are DOS. And see some games right here, I remember for instance that that "Aaron" game is DOS-based. And isn't of the the Pirate Fry games DOS-based too?
Yeah Nightquest has got the right idea... If you use a Dos Emulator (Which costs $30) You can run your games in windows CE or Pocket pc which is the same freaking thing.
Also if you have Visual Studio.net 2003, there is an option to compile for pocketpc or ce. Maybe the code for the linux version is clean enough to be used with .net and ported and at the same time you wouldn't have to worry too much about targeting ARM SSH MIPS etc...
I actually have VS.net 2003 and this is how I know it can be done. You just start a new project, choose Smartdevice project and import the sources. I am not a C++ programmer and do not know if it still that easy or not, but I thought I would offer it in case you all didn't know.
Oh and you can maybe try embedded vc++ too.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. VS only supports the WinCE for .net projects, not C++ projects, and porting AGS to .net really isn't a practical task right now.
