Video of last year ;)
Alex Warren talk is now up http://youtu.be/lQQbKt4_cKk
Interesting :) A QBasic guy of the same school era, starting up under similar circumstances to me - that's good to know. And of course the similarities between himself and CJ in terms of engine development. Somewhat spooky :D But it seems those crazy ideas in the 90's are really shaping themselves these days. Nice that Quest games can be distributed as apps too. Lots of epic rambling between him and S. Brown toward the end made me chuckle "inspired by" LOL ;) Thanks for editing that video Azure!
I wanna goooo.
I have a question though, is there a deadline for Exhibitors to submit payment? Forgive me if I simply overlooked it, but I can't seem to find it listed anywhere.
I'm generally interested but can't make any promises yet regarding my availability later this year.
The following info is likely irrelevant now, as we hope to keep exhibiting and demonstrating free this year.

Hello! There is currently no deadline to this yet. Another month or so of pushing on securing the necessary funds to run the event may determine whether a deadline on exhibitors comes into effect or not. As it stands, it'll be okay to sign up as an exhibitor up to a week or two before the event (so let's say end of November). But as I say drastic issues with other funding may push that deadline back.
That will also determine if the exhibitors actually need to pay for a space or not - of course it would be great if people could exhibit for free :)
Radiant - no problem. As long as you're a "Maybe" on the Facebook page ;)
A preliminary website is up and ready for you to scrutinize. Early in its stages of development and information though I'm afraid, but the application form for exhibiting and speaking is working ok. There is no indiegogo campaign this year, rather we hope we'll find more sponsors and people will contribute via donations and get the VIP Key Cards (http://www.screen7.co.uk/adventurex/contributions.html) to enhance your experience (though this option is not available just yet). Exhibiting and such will remain free, and of course entry will also be free.
This hasn't been shared far beyond the AGS community yet just in case there are big errors or such, if you spot anything or have questions or concerns let me know. We hope to full on spread the word from the beginning of July. And still most certainly open to your special guest suggestions! Let us know who you'd like to see :)
http://www.adventurexpo.co.uk
Oh, by the way, I sent an email a while ago about checking availability, but the events woman won't be able to let me know until Friday at earliest.
(laugh)
No further comment (roll)
I'm too lazy/drunk to use my eyes and/or Google. How much would this cost a person to visit, roughly, not counting travel expenses? I've been away from London for so long, that I could barely point it out on a map these days.
Also, would sponsoring mean I'd get a ticket, or would I be a sponsor who then had to buy a ticket? I've no experience with crowd funding, so I'm not completely sure how it works. Yes, even after all these years, I'm still an idiot.

It's free, just show up there!
Will there be more video this year? I won't be able to make it in person, but would contribute a little if there was a chance of video as in previous years.
Who am I kidding? I will likely contribute anyway!

Price-wise, I'm more curious about rough price of hotels in the area for the duration, than entrance fee to the expo itself. Is it in a hotel, with a VIP card having a room associated with it, or is it a separate convention center entirely?
As for the 'Live-stream branding'.. Do I have to promote something sensible, or could I have a 20 minute slot on the "Multitude of Benefits and Side Effects of Man-scaping"? Could I try to Manchurian Candidate the viewers? Do I have to bone up on neuro-linguistic programming before the seminar?
Can I exhibit my crotch? How do I go about demonstrating it? Are booth babes provided, or will I have to swing by Soho before hand?
It's in a university, near Liverpool Street. You're looking at a hundred minimum, unless you get some crazy last minute deal. I think some people found a reasonably nearby hostel last year though. cat?
Is Charles Cecil actually confirmed this year?
I vaguely know the University, but I don't think there was a central London campus when I'd checked. £100's a fairly decent price, so put me down as a definite maybe. I'll look into hotels and travels shortly. Anything left over, budget-wise, I'll try and throw at the event itself. 250 business cards saying something like "Professional Do-Nothing" or "Freelance Asshole" is too good an opportunity to miss.
My google fu reveals there's a Youth Hostel at St Paul's about 30 min walk away ( keep that in mind if you plan on drinking :P ), so it's not super close but on the other hand it's quite cheap with private rooms at £30 or even less if you are sharing.

Quote from: Azure on Tue 18/06/2013 20:53:05

I drunk-walked home across London, to the outskirts, from the wrong side of the river. I woke up in a park. 30 minutes is fairly decent.
EDIT:
I'd happily share a room if others are wanting this place at a cheaper rate and are willing to put up with snoring. (It's loud enough that you'll hear it regardless of room).
There are approximately infinity bus lines going past Liverpool Street anyway, you wouldn't necessarily have to walk.
You'd let me on a bus? Even sober's a bad idea. Disco-pants can attest to that.
Tube?
I've thrown up on most of the colored lines there, too.
EDIT:
That YHA place seems quite suitable, though. Unless people have other plans set in stone, I'm certainly not opposed to that place.
Now I just need to know about bookings. Should I wait for someone to book something? Should I book a single place/ticket now and try to change to a dorm later? What should I do about the crowd funding thing? I'd at least want the free tea and coffee with the VIP card, though I'd prefer them in separate mugs if possible. If £20 gets me a VIP card, and £25 gets me a VIP card and an advert, I'm totally tempted to randomly pimp myself. Are there any options for a singular VIP card and more pimpage? The current options seem to go up in VIP cards per donation, and I really doubt I could afford that many strippers on the day..
Quote from: Stee on Tue 18/06/2013 20:29:53
Is Charles Cecil actually confirmed this year?
As confirmed as one can be 6 months prior to knowing any Christmas arrangements, yes. :)
I've been staying at the hostel next to St. Paul's last year. It was reasonably priced, rather worn down but clean. In the morning I was walking to the venue (visting The Monument and Towerbridge on the way), in the evening I took the tube back to the hostel. Last year I booked by dorm bed in October I think, so no need to hurry here.
If you don't mind hostels, you're looking at about £20-30. That's what I got!
Hey cat, I think you got lost. Tower Bridge and the monument aren't anywhere on the way from St Paul's to the venue... Although of course they aren't far away if you deliberately visited them.
BTW just to be clear I'm not organising any kind of room share, it's up to folk to sort it out themselves. I am just providing some suggestions :)
@AGA, yes, probably wasn't clear about it. I deliberately visited both, I wanted to do some sight seeing. I just wanted to point out that the hostel is centrally located and you can get around easily just by walking.
As a quick thing to point out - there are 23 weeks (or so) until Adventure X IF it's going ahead on those dates.
Trust me, 23 weeks isn't as long as it sounds!
Mods - I'll PM you regarding schedules etc.
Looking forward to it again this year. Last year was a MASSIVE step up from the first year in every way! Yay for London conventions!
Just been to the website - good job, looking better already!
Just a few things though - where can we make a contribution? I just tried to make one and there's no link to make one. I'm using Google Chrome if that helps.
Also, the menus and images aren't displaying properly at the top of the page. Some images are appearing behind the 'drop-down' menus.
Finally, would it be an idea to make this thread a sticky so that it's easy to find - or at least another thread/sub-forum group so that it's really easy to find the AdventureX related chit-chat?
Cheers Tom. You'll be able to "pay moneys" from this coming weekend, the site will be better updated in a couple of days time.
It works fine on my firefox and on my smartphone. Completely fine when I try it with Chrome too...so not sure why you're getting such an issue? (If you have a screenshot I can check the code)
And sure, we will certainly sticky this thread a bit nearer the time.
hey mods, when using bigger images resized you should resize them in Photoshop to the desired size, otherwise the browser resizes them and it might look strange (at least for people using PS all the time) while PS has nice AA and other algorithms for resizing and stuff. Other than that, damned I wish I was rich and could book a flight just now :)
Ah, that makes sense selmiak, there is some resizing going on there definitely. I'll change that. Thankyou!
Ps. Live stream for you and others who cannot attend :)
A small update to the website - you can now get yourself a VIP key card which acts as our suggested donation. So please head over to the website, where you'll find the link and info.
And of course, we're still looking for more sponsors, exhibitors, demonstrations and people to give talks - again you'll find the links on the site or you can get in touch with me directly if you have any questions (or here of course). Thanks for your interest in AdventureX!

Sweet, out of interest, how many of you are planning to come for sure so far?
Me and Arj0n are coming for sure :)
Hot off the press: Steve Ince (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ince) is confirmed as a special guest! So come and enjoy a talk by him on Saturday :)

Hmmm so I'm the main character in a game I've played?
Not sure if that works out well :p
I shall certainly be there! Can't afford to jeopardise my 100% attendance rate, can I?
Steve Ince needs adding to the 'special guest' page. Also the 'wiki' and 'site' links for Ingold , Gilbert and Beckett-King all lead to Charles Cecil's wiki page and the Revolution website, respectively.
Will it be possible to buy the VIP card on the day (if there are any left)?
I will be there too! Maybe I will have something to show this year
The site gets weekly updates at the moment, Mr. Ince + update to other pages will be on there after the weekend.
Not sure about the sale of key cards at the event itself yet sorry. They are in place to help us fund the event. That is something we hope to achieve before the event happens ;) I'll be taking off all the cards going to VIPs and sponsors and such from the "total remaining" list on the next update to. That and some for competitions/to win - they really are going to be in limited supply by the time of the event.
Matt, great! & if not it's okay - we need people to just randomly mill about too ;D
If Matt didn't go, who would be in all the photos?
A thought:
It was really interesting hearing Chris Jones talk at the first AdventureX.
Since he's the man that kind of 'started it all' to a great extent, any chance of getting him come and speak (provided he's available)?
Just a thought.
You want to hear the story of AGS again?? ;) The AGS lullaby...
TBH we're almost out of talk spaces, providing a couple of folks confirm their suggested talks.
OH, that's great then!
No, I was thinking more that only a very few people heard it the first time round, so it might be nice for more people to have the opportunity to hear it.
Plus the ending might be a little bit of a letdown: "Oh, and after all the time and effort I devoted to AGS, I eventually got bored of it and let other people take over. The end."
I remembered it more as, "I'm married and have a child on the way, I don't have time for this anymore"!
His girlfried probably wouldn't like to hear about that statement :-D
Oh I don't know - it means she's his top priority(laugh)!
It was filmed and put on youtube anyway wasn't it?
Don't know anything about a movie, so maybe I missed something. As far as I know CJ has a girlfriend and is not married or having a baby :)
So therefor my cynical note about his girlfriend being not happy with the fact he is married and having a baby.
I obviously remembered totally wrong!
Memory is a precarious thing...
No worries :)
Dave Gilbert is married, and had a baby on way at last Mittens (since arrived safely). Maybe you're confusing the two?
Quote from: Tamara on Fri 04/10/2013 14:22:22

Nope, he wasn't pregnant last mittens if I recall right... ;)
*sigh*
He is a bit bigger than he used to be, so you never know. Might be a little AGS baby on the way.
Hope it's planned. Otherwise he'll have a little exception error on the way. Aww!
hope it's not going to be a '404 - ags baby not found' error...
Small updates:
H.P. Lovecraft's "Dagon" and J.U.L.I.A. Enhanced edition added to the games on show this year.
Fireflower Games are now a sponsor.
Douglas McBride, Senior Art Director for Microsoft Studios to deliver a talk (though this needs final confirmation)
If any of you interested London AGSers can provide a sofa for some other interested AGSers, please speak up! A bit like ba-bla car or whatever it's called, if you can provide sofla-sofe - do let us know, or PM me so that I can discuss it with you and the interested people more privately. Thank you!
There's a nice park right by my place that people can doss in overnight.
Darn, why did I book a hotel if I also could have booked the perfect London bum experience?
Missed opportunity!
Depends on the hotel TBH
You've got a point (laugh)
Thanks to all our sponsors and those who've already bought a VIP key card or made a donation, we have just reached the venue hire costs of 1000 gbp ($1597)
That great news, Mark!

Dear Mr Lovegrove
Thank you for your email of 21 October kindly inviting Mayor Boris Johnson to attend "Adventure X" which will be taking place on Petticoat Lane from the 7-9 of December 2013.
I am very sorry but, much as the Mayor is very grateful for the invitation, I regret that it is not possible for him to accept on this occasion as his diary is already full up with engagements throughout the coming months.
He has asked me to pass on his apologies and best wishes for a successful event.
Yours sincerely
Not this year :( Hehehe
Note for next year, invite him in February.
Even if we can't secure the funding for AdvX 2014, we can at least have a beer with Boris somewhere.
Is there a Burpy Boris' nearby?
Who needs a room?
http://www.ramada.co.uk/deals-discounts/featured-offers/rooms-20
Ramada discount. From 6th December to 6th June you can use a coupon code to get a room in Ramada Hotels for 20 GBP (24 Euro) per night.
You can create a coupon here:
http://www.independent.co.uk/competitions/50000-ramada-hotel-rooms-at-just-20-per-room-per-night-8924471.html
Got very excited but doesn't look like there's a valid Ramada nearby. That said good spot, if folks don't mind hopping on the tube for a bit :)
That's true, but the hotels in the city are all really expensive and a day ticket for the tube is rather cheap, so it's at least a good option.
Adventure Treff have a new video from last year's show, Dave Gilbert talks about his experiences: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd7FmwHmmGQ
(Thank you neon)
I'm sure he'll have some NEW experiences to share this year ;)
And Jon Ingold's talk! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXGo0rBeTIo
Fourth and final special guest is confirmed to speak on Sunday :) Tim Child, creator of Knightmare. Well done Stupot+ ;)
And I found at least 3 other videos from last year I promise to bring up before this year's event. Just give me some days.
Got the time off and the tickets booked so see you all there!
I have everything prepared. I can't wait. I only have to finish the video of my game now.
A schedule is up... I would say "the" schedule but if it includes you on there and you feel there is a problem, please let me know so I can make some changes before it's too late :)
We're happy to host some AGS games on the public PC's over the weekend (check out special normal guest Matt Frith's game there). If yours is new, you have a new demo or want to offer something exclusive that's playable please send me a PM and be prepared to provide a download link in the very near future. Last chance to get in touch about anything regarding this years show really, so if you want to send some flyers/business cards or do something we haven't thought of now is the time... otherwise, things are looking pretty good!!!
Still plenty to do but just a few weeks away... where has this year gone? Certain things not quite sorted yet but we're getting there. Dave Gilbert and Charles Cecil on a panel for example, not confirmed, but would be one for the history books :D Tim Child and Radiant in another. HA!
PS Nice one Steffano, good to see you there again, and excellent Stee, nice that you will be too.
I understand there will be some demonstrations and demos for games that have not been released yet and will be a first time in Adventure X. I was wondering if there is any chance that these demos might reach the general public, maybe as a reward for a donation to Adventure X like the VIP keys, although you probably have the money you need now. I would love to play some of the demos you will have the opportunity to test, but I can't go myself. :(
Also, I hope this year the livestream works fine, please try to make it work! ;)
I am special and normal, hooray! Mati, my demo will probably be released around the same time. I will let you know where to download it :) This year's show is looking great, can't wait.
Looks like it's possible for me to be there on the Saturday! Looking forward to it! :)
Um... any chance we could put Absent on one of the PC's ? :)
It would seem that my medication will not have been prescribed in time, and even if it happened tomorrow, it wouldn't have had time to kick in. Ergo, you can all feel a sense of relief at my lack of attendance. I'll likely still donate in the next week, as I'd said I would. Despite my absence, I thoroughly approve of the concept. I'm just, you know, bat-shit fucking crazy.

Bit off topic, but I'm going to be getting to London on Thursday morning, which gives me an extra two days to see the city. Is anyone going to be around on Thursday/Friday and want to meet for drinks or something?

Swank! What times?
We'll be at DD's on Fri from about 8pm. Sat booking is also 8pm onwards but I'm sure some of us will make it there earlier... And you (and friends of the organizers) are welcome to come to the venue from 6.30 on Fri if you want to help move some tables and chairs, set anything up or just have a pre-show coffee 8-)
I'll be in London from Wednesday onwards (spending Wednesday in the office and have a Christmas dinner at night) and have nothing planned for Thu and Fri (was thinking maybe a museum or some Christmas shopping depending on the weather). I'm sure we'll meet at AdventureX but am certainly also open to saying 'Hi' beforehand (I'm not a developer but did do some beta testing on both Primordia and Blackwell Epiphany).
I should be there around midday on Saturday and I'll be there till half 6. Looking forward to it and finally meeting some of you lot! :)
And you can find Fentonfilms game Absent ready to play in Zone C across the weekend!
Very sorry to announce that Steve Ince has had to cancel due to work and other commitments. A big shame but we're going to keep our chins up and try and fill that spot with another speaker.
As much as Steve is a great guy and I really hoped to see him again, it will be a great event anyway. This year it was also the first time he had no chance to join us on our Adventure-Treff-Party in Cologne. The good thing about it is that he's busy, what means he's working on something. But there are other great people who will definitely come.
Thanks neon. Yes, I recall a post by him maybe a couple of weeks back explaining he had perhaps hit a new big/good project of some kind, so it's understandable, and he's been a bit ill lately too. No Ince Pies this Christmas, but right you are - the event is still stuffed full o' goodness :)
Yes, I also remember that one. He didn't confirm working on an adventure game, but at least on a game. So we can expect something, that's great news. I'm sure if he finds time next year he will come.
I might actually make it this time (actually studying in the U.K. n' all) would be cool to actually meet some of you guys in the flesh :-D
Where in the UK are you studying, Vertigo?
I'm studying in Hull, so it'll take me about three hours to get to London.
For those who still need a room, I have one single bed room left that I can't cancel anymore. It's Easy Hotel Heathrow, 45 minutes with the tube to AdvX, but only 33 GBP/night. It's booked and prepaid for Saturday and Sunday.
If someone is interested, talk to the guy with the Adventure-Treff-shirt on the event or send me a pm.
Turns out I'm arriving on FRIDAY morning instead of Thursday, so I guess I'll see y'all at Dirty Dicks!
And I'm coming too;)
Still can't believe they have a place called "Dirty Dicks" there... but that's where I'll be heading straight off the Exeter to London coach;)
I'll probably be coming up on the Saturday. Hope to see some of you there :-)
Last year the DD pub was MOBBED, and it was only because someone recognized me that I was told that everyone was meeting upstairs. Mark - can someone bring a sign or give a designated area inside the pub for people to meet? My phone doesn't work internationally so I won't be able to check email/forums/whatever outside of the hotel room. Or should I just look for you upstairs?
Hi Dave, just go upstairs I guess ;) That's the suggestion, that's where we'll aim for. Or come to the venue at 7pm and then you can walk there with us. See you soon, safe journey!
DDs is full of City types until later in the evening, hence the busyness.

Arrrr exciting
Aaand I'm off. See you guys there!
I envy you guys, sadly I can't be there this year :~(. I wish you all a great weekend with interesting talks and fantastic games to play.
Sadly I won't be able to make it. :~(
But you guys and gals all have a great time! :-D 8-)
Sorry to hear it guys, hope you can join the livestream at some point?
If anyone needs a room last minute that's cheap, there are 3 St. Christopher's Inns in London (I think), 2 in London Bridge/Borough area, and one in Camden.
To clarify, getting one of those rooms and buying a travel card for the weekend is a darn site cheaper than most other places you can stay! Other than something off of AirBnB I'd say the best bet might be the TravelLodge on City Road, but I wouldn't call it cheap last time I checked.
Sorry for late info, but I don't check these forums much.
Hey, you used my blue cup for the flyer! But thats okay... if you should pay for my last minute flight to the kingdom. But let me tell you a secret, this is one of my normal plain white Mugs and I used advanced image processing technologies to make it appear in blue on your screen! Have fun this weekend over there and why not test the livestream now, just to make sure it works (and so that the people at home can make sure you work...) :D
we have moved on...pizza place under the venue rem we cdnt c u in dd's"
we cdnt test stuff sorry the hall was in use even tho it shdnt be..sorry :(
Chatting, beer & pizza's with aga, azure, vertigoaddict, Dave G., grim, mods and Tamara :)
Jealous ;) Well I will be there tomorrow with a wild ddq. Hopefully his flight isn't delayed :=
Cools, See you guys tomorrow :)
I should be there tomorrow. Will people be wearing name badges or should I study the Mittens photos to work out who's who? Better still, come dressed as your avatars *digs out the Godzilla suit* :)
I think I know what you look like Stupot. Not sure if I have a raincoat and hat like my avatar though...
I'm actually dressed as pacman (they ran out of commander Keen suits...) ;)
Will look out for godzillaz and raincoat+had persons ;-D
I'm not going to make it after all :(
Have fun though everyone.
Pitty you aren't gonna make it Stupot...
"You are banned! You cannot watch this channel!" :(. No more live stream for me.. Though I guess listening to a computer fan working as if it's life depended on it and watching a blurry picture is not really something I can't go without. Shame you guys never got a better solution sorted out! Maybe next year? (You could always try and partner up with someone that has professional equipment, or why not even ask at the very university you are holding the event? http://www.uea.ac.uk/film-television-media)
Have fun guys, I'll patiently wait for videos etc to be uploaded after the event.
There's a stream? I can't find a link on the last couple of pages or in the original topic!
EDIT: okay, it's on the website, found it.
EDIT2: also, how did you get banned from it, Peder? I don't even see a chat or anything? :p
Greetings from London, y'all :D
Greetings!! :)
The stream is great, Mark! Works really well, sound is acceptable as well! Now I just wish I wasn't so busy with my damn studies and could've gone as well! :(
Yeah loving the stream. Feel like a dick for not going considering how close I live, but glad I can still follow it. Charles Cecil's talk was awesome. Just seen the unmistakable hair of Ali walk past :)

EDIT2: also, how did you get banned from it, Peder? I don't even see a chat or anything? :p
I think it was because I posted a link (the link I posted in my post above). Seems I'm not banned anymore though, and the sound is now a lot better than it was before I was banned :).
oh also, to get the chat, just press on the video itself and it takes you to the channel on the hominin website.. (though I can't get there anymore as it just says someone with my IP is already watching it... lol.
I got the same IP message peder. I seem to have 'fixed' it by turning on Zenmate and choosing Hong Kong :/
Lol, well it worked for me at first, before I got banned. I can't be bothered to try and get around it now though. Is there even anyone else in there? :). There weren't anyone talking when I was in there.
is it just me or is the sound completely gone now? :(
Sound stopped a couple minutes ago.

That "pause/commercial" video is damn loud :O..
Had a good time yesterday, some interesting talks, good games to look at and it was cool to meet some forumites in real life too!
Just wish I could go back today as well ;)
I just got home and I am in a sort bizarre tiredness euphoria about the whole thing. It's getting better each year and I am glad to meet new people each time I attend. I seem to be mostly rambling on twitter right now... Thanks to Mark, Azure, AGA and thesynapse for hosting a great show. Let's make 2014 even better :D
Ten thumbs up from me, I'll be back again for next year's! (there's nothing you can do to stop me)

Nice to meet you! And good to see you Matt, Technocrat, Arj0n, Tamara, ddq, VertigoAddict and others! (even CJ for a brief while :))
I'm glad the live stream audio worked better than last year at least. It was definitely still an experiment. The whole thing has been in a way, because everything was done on a slightly bigger/better scale this year. Fact of the matter is for that you have to discipline yourself into task routines to make things like that work. With all the other things that needed done (on entering the building) getting into those task routines for the live stream didn't happen so much on Saturday.
So, audio cut outs were because I hadn't plugged in the 'desk' to a mains socket and so the audio, which was coming through a HD camera, cut when the camera itself ran out of battery. But realized this was what was occurring and so on Sunday made sure camera was fully charged and no matter where the 'desk' was it was always plugged in to prevent power loss in the first place. Only needed battery power for when it was being moved, but that didn't "click" on Saturday.
I couldn't always monitor the audio, but did more monitoring of it on Sunday certainly. As far as I can tell it worked fine Sunday and only cut out during the last panel, but I could be wrong... ?

Thanks Jan :) I'm glad it worked for that!
Peder - sorry, no idea about the banning. Something auto on hominin's end I presume. Other than occasionally cutting to a different cam & updating the scrolling text (late!) I didn't dare press anything else. The initial audio setup wasn't working, sorry that it also cut to the internal mic audio source (why you heard the fan!) but it seems like by 1pm Saturday I'd figured it all out and was using the HD cam for audio.
To keep that constant it meant recording continuously and that ate cam battery on Sat but that hadn't occurred to me so sorry for it disappearing, and blaring sound levels for that video...! ManyCam is not exactly the greatest live stream studio software. But it - and the hardware used - was about all I could afford this time. I'd love to find some remote webcams but I haven't. I had thought about cabling (via USB) so that the desk never moved and we could put a bunch of USB webcams all over the place. But that'd be a lot of USB cable, and lots of people tripping over ;)
Anyhoo - thanks for tuning in! Hope at the very least the special guest talks all worked. They shoulda. Thats when I was mostly sat with the stream.
Thanks to AGA, Azure & the_Synapse for all their help. It was a pleasure to run the event with you guys!
I had a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone involved!;)
Meeting mOds and Arjon was the best part for me (even better than shaking hands with Charles Cecil and giving my first ever autograph to Astrid from AdventureGamers!;) ). You guys are awesome. I wish you lived down the road so I could see you every day.... ;)
Oh yeah, and the coffee was great;)

Loads of inspiring, surprising and fun things on show! It was lovely to see you all. Roll on AdventureX 2014!
I will be very interested in seeing videos if possible :) I tried to watch the live stream but the time zones wasn't very friendly for us Australians and I had trouble hearing past the fan on the live stream (on the mornings of Saturday and Sunday London time).
Packing up to leave London. Way too much fun, guys. Much love goes to Berian, Mark, Rebecca and Tom for keeping everything together and pulling off magic once again. The time flew by so fast! Sorry I didn't get the chance to talk to as many of you as I wanted to.
Till next year! I hope to bring Janet next time, and I promise not to set off an international incident again.
Are the streams uploaded anywhere?
It was a pleasure to host it! I personally got a lot of positive feedback on how the event was going so thanks very much to those people!
I'm looking forward to next year already - onwards and upwards!
Made it safely back home last night. Had a lot of fun meeting interesting people and seeing great new games in various stages of development. It was my first AdventureX and certainly hope to be back next year!
Streams were not recorded our end no, sorry. You may want to keep an eye on Adventure-Treff as they have all the video material this year. neon is working through it but please remember, this can take a couple of weeks.

Hey guys, thanks to M0Ds, Berian, Rebecca and Tom for all the work you've put into it. It was a great experience and I'm sure without you people caring for the whole event constantly, it wouldn't have been nearly as great as it was.
I have recorded a lot of videos, I still have to work through it and it may take some days, but I have two free weeks now and my goal is to cut two videos a day, so I think I will have it all done before christmas. Fingers crossed.
Mati256: If you have a full recording of Jan Kavan's presentation about interactive music, I would be glad if I can complete my material with it, because my camera turned off after 20 minutes and Jan really wants to have that stuff. Can we work together on this?
There were some guys on the event with running kickstarters and I gave them the raw material to use it for there campaigns before it's too late. Two of them already have uploaded that on Youtube, so even if we didn't do a final cut, I can give you a preview:

More stuff will follow during the next week.
Mati: If your files are too big, try compressing with this one:

Actually I do that if I have to upload and often it reduces the file size to 10 %.
Sounds like a really nice event. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend (as I'm not from England and it would be too costly for me right now), but my friend was in London at that time and she said she enjoyed it (not only the presentations, but also the opportunity to exchange a few words with some of her favorite game developers/publishers). I'm looking forward to the videos, if there are going to be any!

I had an amazing time, thank you for organizing such an awesome event! I think my highlight might have been Mark Estdale's talk. It actually made me want to work in that recording studio!
Now comes the arduous task of matching usernames with faces!
Well I, Tom, am theSynapse.
And I'm the guy who placed you in front of that green wall, bothered you with a camera and asked stupid questions :-)
I'd just like to say thanks to you guys for hosting this event again this year, and more importantly finally getting good old Cecil to come down and do a talk!!!
I hope you don't mind me saying it was a huge improvement on last year, if a little crazy with poor Kris and Tom getting dragged into panels to cover disappearing people.
Apologies to any people I didn't really get the chance to talk to. I "think" I saw custard there but was not too sure, and possibly Technocrat, whom I didn't get the chance to speak to last year either.
I spoke to Matt briefly who seemed to be half asleep after partying with DDQ all night (who ironically seemed rather fresh-faced). I never did get round to catching up with DDQ, I was pretty hungover (like m0ds last year but without the sleeping and feeling sorry for myself :P ). Hopefully all those love messages I left you on IRC will be enough when you next log in :)
Personal favourites would be the demonstrations of Her Majesty's Spiffing and Jason the Greek, which are approaching the end of their Kickstarter Campaigns:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/677106949/jason-the-greek-pointnclick-adventures-in-ancient
I regret missing the Adventure Creator demonstration by Chris Burton, but there was a clash with a talk I wanted to see and unfortunately I had no idea which guy he was to go and pester him afterwards. If by any chance anyone has anything from that I would greatly appreciate it.
Yes, I was also cross at myself for missing the Adventure Creator talk. I'd also be interested in any footage from it.
Also, Ali, I was disappointed at the inability to punish m0ds in the CYOA you did this year.
Must try harder :P

Dave creates a nice atmosphere for presenting the newest blackwell game. Was probably cool to be there and great to watch. But the cameraangle is way too angly!
Yes, that's true. But it was the best option to
a) catch the best possible sound and
b) as the camera was running unattended I had to find a position where nobody accidently touches or moves it and
c) nobbody would accidently put himself between the camera and the presentation
So sorry for the angle, but it wasn't possible to have a better position for it.
For those waiting for the Charles Cecil interview.... I wanted to do it directly, but as I promised to bring two videos a day I decided to do one from the presentation room (those are easy to cut) and one interview every day.

Happy to be able to give you guys all that stuff, even if I wished I had 2 or 3 more editors at the location. Unfortunately nobody else had time to show up there. We already agreed internally to focus more on AdventureX next year, so I hope we will be able to attend with a bigger team as we are on gamescom.
Hi there!
Thanks neon for all your work, it was a pleasure to meet you!
And thanks to all the AdventureX crew, specially to Mark! You all do a REALLY great work!
It was really nice to meet so many adventure lovers and developers there... and to show the first demo of "Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow comes Today".
Hope to see you all next year! :D
The only thing that could be "better" about AdventureX is if it was happening earlier in the year, not in December. That time of the year, aside from very cold weather and rain, is also notoriously hard for getting time off at work... ( I did get it though)
But I guess there must be a good reason to have it in December and I shall just stop grumbling now, since I really loved it;) I will try to go next year and attend both days that time, not just Saturday.

Just a quick word folks, as no "2014" thread has hit the boards yet... It looks like UEA will be out of the question this year. But thankfully it seems perfectly possible that the event would be held at Southbank Uni (possibly the Keyworth centre (London SE1) within walking distance of Elephant & Castle for those who want to check it on maps).
So, wanted to say although it's been quiet and UEA is a sad loss, we are trying to make things happen behind the scenes and they are progressing okay at this point. MAYBE see you later this year. Don't book a hotel just yet Mr. Stein! ;)
Sorry to hear that! Did they raise their rates or did they just say no? It was a good location, but the show will go on. Looking forward to AX2014.
It's no longer operational at that site, and I'm now working elsewhere. So the rates would have at least doubled, even if they were willing to rent to now external people.
Is it looking like it'll be about the same time of year? I should be back in London by mid November, and am keen to come along.
Hi Gary...Most likely Dec 6 + 7th yup. Good to know you'll perhaps be around for it!

Since Dec 8 is a public holiday here, chances are good that I will be able to come!

Should have something to show this year... so definitely should be there.
I think I might just be there this year as well!
Great stuff, thanks for the positives guys and gals! :)
Bit late to this discussion, but I will definitely be there as usual! Any idea on when you'll know the location? I'd like to try and organize my plans early this year.
Thanks Dave. The details will be locked down by the end of next week at the latest, the likely candidate is 6+7 Dec and in a Southbank Uni building nr. Elephant and Castle. I'll make a new thread by the end of next week and the website will be up (if all goes to plan) 1st Sept. I realize yourself and others have hotel arrangements to consider. Sorry for the delay, hope you can hold out just to the near end of the month :)
Really looking forward to this, will definitely be there this year!
Wish I could say that I'll certainly be there, but if everything goes according to plans I'll be the father of a month old baby, so maybe the timing isn't excellent.
Had an amazing time last time, will try my darnedest to make it back this year.
Neato :) Please do say if you intend to exhibit a game as it'd be useful to know. Also if any members have any burning talk topics again raise them here. Oh, and any special guest ideas?
I intend to make sure to shove Technobabylon in everyone's face this time around!
Any news? Flights are getting more expensive already. If I don't book soon, I guess I won't make it.
Yep, 6+7 Dec @ Keyworth center is very very likely. Our host is just double checking the space can be ours on 6+7, hopefully I'll have the confirmation by today or tomorrow. As for the space itself, it seems very suitable for the show. I had a look around and was pretty impressed.
There's even a second building opposite the Keyworth that is a backup facility, though it's a little bit more clinical and ugly than Keyworth. But Keyworth has a large foyer, an upper pair of balconies, a large theatre, two large rooms (like the talks room at previous events) and a possible cafe though not sure they will open it on that weekend. And if we really needed them about 100 classrooms on higher floors... That said, there's cafe's and bars 5 mins from the site. And it only takes 5 mins from the tube, if that - if you take the right exit from the tube ;) I took the wrong exit so it took 10 minutes to reach (one exit puts you on the other side of a huge roundabout). Apparently there are signs in the Tube saying "Southbank Uni exit" but I didn't see them.
I intend to get a first website up this weekend or early next week. Same for an official thread here.
Sweet!
If it's the Elephant & Castle roundabout, I spent hours navigating that damn thing when I stayed at CJ's place during AdvX 2012.
It's almost an adventure game on its own.
Haha, Elephant roundabout is a nightmare if you don't know the area. We'll definitely need to make it clear on all the information which exits, crossings, etc to take to get to the venue.
I'm really looking forward to it!!! ;-D
Last year was good, I'll definitely try and come along again this year! :)
Randomly I found more videos of 2013

Yesss. Thanks, Mark!
Unlikely I will be there this year, I would have to fend for myself for accomodation (my buddy doesn't live in London anymore) and I doubt I could afford the london tax on a hotel, although have you finally got confirmation on place and dates just in case?
No problem Stee - but yes if you can make it, it's all confirmed, 6+7 Dec at SE1 6NG (Keyworth Centre) :)
A full new thread will be up in a day or two.
It's outer London so hotels will be a good deal cheaper. There's actually a Youth Hostel nearby, it doesn't have great reviews but should be OK for a night or two.

Haha well you get curtains on your bunk! Never seen that before. And it has a bar and lots of other facilities, and an 86% rating... you sure it's not that good? :P
haha well my friend found some that put him off, but actually it looks OK? will leave it for AGS people to decide ;)

Southwark is inner London, and Elephant is in zone 1 (/2 boundary, but shush). Maybe you meant it's sahf of the river, so is cheaper!
It's south from Kennington so outer in my book ^_- but yes prices should be a bit cheaper than the hotels near the old venue.
Er, no it isn't... Elephant is about half a mile to the north east of Kennington! It just has more of the south London ambience (read: council estates and air of danger).
So should there be another thread about this? With the proper year? :D
Yep, soon. bit busy at the moment and not ready for the onslaught of emails and questions yet. But at least you know it's official. :=
And no harm sharing with you the most likely floorplan (just a rough one - it's all pretty much on ground floor, chillout on second floor, disabled access and lift to all areas). Note the cafe will most likely be closed, but there are some small shops nearby and a couple of restaraunts and bars. We should have on-site tea & coffee as per usual.

I can picture it already! And it'll be in throwing distance of lots of London's finest sights to see.
But that'd be wasting time when adventure games are being shown off.
There's also the Charlie Chaplin pub (http://finnella.co.uk/) that supposedly has some of the cheapest pints in central London. And a cutting edge early 00s website.
So...any news on the official announcement? Airfares are starting to go up.
No - But... it was official a page ago? :)
6+7 Dec, postcode above...
I wouldn't wait for an thread or website if you need/want to book flights & hotels - it may still be a week or so before those are online. But you got my personal guarantee and that of the venue that it IS happening!
edit: ah hell with it, new thread is up ;)
