Hi there.
Over the past few months, instead of putting effort into my own AGS games, I've been recording other people's AGS games. They call it longplays, but I call it [AGS walkthrough].
There are about 30 games up now, and there are still many on my to-do list.
I'm sure some people discovered it themselves but it's only now that I'm comfortable sharing my hobby on these forums (you bunch of judgemental freaks).

So check it out:

Nice idea!

Without your permission, I'd added these information to the wiki pages (here and here). Hope you won't mind.

As selfish as it sounds, the first thing I did was to see if any of my games were considered worthy of a video walkthrough ;).

Needless to say, I really think these video walkthroughs you've done are very cool. Keep doing them !  8) ;D

Nostradamus

All you need now is the crew from MST3K in your sweet sig to riff on the games in real time  ;D

Good stuff jet, and fun to watch! It's always nice to see these "Let's play" thingies on youtube of AGS games. I aers subscribed!

Radiant

Nice idea, Jet!

Especially the speedrun there :)

Darth Mandarb

What a cool idea!

You've really spent some time on this.  Color me impressed!!

Great job!

It would be neat to have these videos tied into each game's entry in the AGS database! (with a spoiler alert of course!)

We need to publicize the wiki more. I wrote an entire article on there based on a thread in this forum, but I don't think anybody outside of that thread has seen it yet. The wiki has such great potential that is untapped.
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

LimpingFish

Great stuff. And I'm not just saying that because one of my games is on there! \o/

I agree that the wiki is a somewhat covert operation; which is a real shame as a lot of hard work has gone into it, and it contains a lot of useful stuff. How else can people learn about Andy Penis, Christopia, and Yahtzee-gate?! There might also be some frivolous stuff concerning game design, tutorials, and resources somewhere in the back...

...but it's not like anybody would ever have any use for those.

The wiki wasn't really linked anywhere on the site (when I just checked now, there was only a small link under the 'Tutorials' section on the main site- must have been newly put there?), so everytime I wanted to look something up, I had to search google for agswiki.

Yes, I think it needs more prominence. Also, I'm happy to see AGSness being spread out to the video world ;D

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

Erm, don't make me play all AGS games now.

The reason why I never use the wiki is because it feels broken/incomplete. this page just redirects to the forums, and the fire plug-in doesn't even work. I could just as well use the search function in the forum or game DB.
This is the exact reason why I prefer the english Wikipedia over the dutch/esperanto versions, because those give me less info. Which brings me to point B: AGS is a small community. There might be many things to write about, but we lack the man power to cover it all.
Also, the forum is the heart of AGS. This is where most things happen, the wiki is only a place to make a note about it.

More videos friday!

Jesus, it's embarrassing how lousy my games are. I need to make a new one just to clean up my record

Yes, it is offtopic, but I agree with this.

I like video walkthroughs but they often give me the feeling of not wanting to play the game since I've seen all the assets, etc in action.  Whereas a trailer may often whet your appetite, having someone take you on a tour through an entire game has a way of making you (me) lose interest in playing the actual game.  I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your videos, of course, just making an observation.

I understand and agree. When I watch a playthrough I've already desided that I'm not going to finish that game myself. When I do want to finish or have finished a game then I'm not going to watch it.
There are so many adventure games that I can't play them all. Sometimes it's impossible to get a working legal copy too. Watching a video isn't illegal and takes less time to finish.
I've got a lot of sierra games (still wrapped in plastic), but I just dong enjoy playing sierra games. This way I can enjoy or critique the story objectively.
It's also feels like an accomplishment to sit through a 4 hour long video.

Maybe you could do an initial review video of the game that doesn't spoil it and then your usual playthrough?  That way you're pandering to people who want to know if a game is worth playing and to people who just want to see a game being played.  It would probably increase your viewing audience as well, if the Angry Video Game Nerd is any indication!

Just a thought.

Interesting idea Progz.  I like it.
Jet you could do something like a movie trailer, but for games.  Give people a taste of the game without giving away too much.
If you had a thread or website that showed updates, I'd love to check the new game's video out.  Sometimes I don't have enough time to play many games as is, may as well see if they are interesting before hand.

My goal was to archive the games on video, not really to review or inform about a X year old freeware game. That could be fun too... but not right now.
And the nerd is god, obviously.

My youtube channel is the only updated thing I have. Best to check that out regularly.
